But seriously, if you're thinking about the date 2012, there are a great deal of misconceptions about it. Even though the date has made its way into pop-culture and urban myth, which would usually make one think that it is a big lie, I do believe that there is something to it.
I visited a shaman who was trained in Peru and told me a good deal about it (when I asked). He said that the Mayans were the masters of time and astronomy, and that it was not a doomsday prophecy. Rather, it signifies a change in the collective consciousness, at least for beings on this planet (whatever that means), but possibly throughout this galaxy. Somehow, this change is caused by the alignment of the cuff of the Milky Way with the path the sun takes (the ecliptic), which, sure enough, will happen on exactly on December 21, 2012. To a lot of people, this means it's the end of one age and the beginning of another.
Some people say the transformation of consciousness involves people realizing that space-time is an illusion, so the date is sort of like a "cat's out of the bag" thing.
