Is the Red Cross donationg thing an advertisement, or is it something you guys have put to help support them?

I dislike the fact that it's not dismissable now. I understand the ideal behind it but...I'd rather be able to dismiss it.

As such I'll include an Adblock Plus rule in this post to hide the element.

These can be added in your Adblock Plus Prefrences (Or press Ctrl+Shift+E in firefox) using the "Add filter..." button.
If these don't work, then install the "Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus"

    Code:
    pokecommunity.com##DIV#navbar_notice_102.navbar_notice

Also here's a filter like which will likely kill all notices. Use with care, I take no responsibility if you miss something important because you forgot to disable it.
    Code:
    pokecommunity.com##FORM#notices[method="post"][action="profile.php?do=dismissnotice"]

I would like to post this here to let people know they can donate directly to the Japanese Red Cross via Google Checkout. Also there are several other resources at the link for those affected by the tsunami as well as pictures and videos of the affected area.

My thoughts and prayer go out to those who are in Japan.

Don't be a dick, it's for a good cause and they could really use the support from anyone around the world. And one week isn't that long of a wait.

Rather than asking that the staff allow it to be dismissed, I instead just offered an alternative to people who don't want to stare at it. Yes, it's a terrible disaster, but such notices are annoying, and quite unfair for people who simply are too young to seriously donate and have parents who'd rather not fork over financial information online. X3.

Odd. I saw an X by it earlier. :/

BTW, it's not 8.9, it's now 9.0. You should fix that.
Yeah I'd edited it to be dismissible when I first saw it, assuming it was a mistake, but was later informed it's supposed to be up. It'll just be for roughly a week though.

The issue is that some people can't donate, and I highly doubt that someone who didn't want to donate five days ago, after seeing it for five days, suddenly changes their mind because of a text box saying they should. You're the one being rude here, Pachy is just giving the option for people that either already have donated, can't donate, or are just tired of seeing it.

I never had to use the web browsers ad-blocker on this site until now. Yeah its terrible what's happened into Japan with the Earthquake and that but the forcing the donate thing down my throat is a bad idea. I know where to go if I want to donate. I don't need a silly banner which takes up quarter of the screen :)

However, some members might not have been on recently and the staff just want to show as many people as possible, to get the most amount of support as possible.
I don't see how it causes that much of a problem, it is just a sign at the top. That is it. It isn't exactly encroaching on the forum space.

It is the staff members choice to put it up and I back them 100% since it should be up there for maximum amount of exposure to the members, to hopefully get people to donate.

I don't see the big deal. It's a banner. It will be gone in a week. It's just a minor inconvenience, okay? Not so much a minor inconvenience for the people in Japan, so I think you guys can deal with a banner at the top of a website. I'm sure the people in Japan would rather have their biggest problem be a banner in their way right now rather than tsunami damage, but that's not the case. The donation banner is not going to shoot you in the face and make you donate, it's there, it's square, deal with it. People complain about such trivial things these days.

I think the severity of it outweighs the terrible burden and inconvenience of it being here effecting your browsing experience, personally. This of all things is such a strange thing to complain about.

Anyway, nothing else can be contributed from this, so I'm closing it. Especially since this was only made as a simple question and has developed into something else that's been answered.
