    I have an idea for a ROM Hack and have downloaded a few tools (perhaps I still need others I don't know) as well as a FR ROM, but I don't know where I should start making the hack? Mapping? Scripting? Or even just applying certain ROM bases to the clean FR ROM e.g. MrDollSteaks Decap and Attack? And depending on what it is would anyone be able to give me some pointers to help me start?

    Any sort of help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!:)
     
    Getting familiar with certain aspects and their respective tools would be a good idea. Get some maps done, experiment with scripts and some resources from this forum and you'll be good in no time. Other than that you might aswell read "DJTiKi's Guide To Planning Your Awesome Rom Hack! Planning For Dummies!" for some basic inspiration and general advice.

    What I think: History > Maps > Scripts. Yes, use the MrDollSteaks Decaps and trainer playerfacing fix (for trainer battles).

    I think it'd be best to have a test ROM where you kinda mess around with the tools and get familiar with them. Your first attempt is almost never gonna be perfect, but with practice comes perfection.

    The tools you're probably gonna be using the most are Advance Map and XSE so it's best to read up on a lot of tutorials and be very familiar with how they work and feel.

    As always, posting questions here can help you when you get stuck on something difficult or even mind boggling.
