Are you watching Yu Yu Hakusho subbed or dubbed? 'Cuz I rarely push dubs on people, but...YYH dubbed has the greatest localized writing I've ever seen in anime. And great voice actors, too, especially Justin Cook's role as Yusuke.

I mean, it's not Garzey's Wing quality, but it's difficult to meet that level of greatness.

And I have episode 1 of Katanagatari. I'll get around to it one of these years.

I'm watching it subbed because there aren't/weren't any dual audio bluray rips. Nozomu Sasaki who voices Yusuke sure has voiced a lot of characters I like.

He even voiced the saving grace in Death Note.

Also think, cba to check Kuwabara is voiced by Captain Buggy and Pilaf-sama. That can't be bad.

Shounen powers almost always relate to emotions, so it makes sense. Remember when Simon popped an emotion boner that powered up his robot?

The Japanese cast is real good, but the YYH voice dub cast does some amazing things with the roles their given. I won't say that they're better, per se, since I didn't watch too much of it in Japanese. But I will say that I don't think that there's anyone out there who fits the role of Yusuke more than Justin Cook, he does an EXCELLENT job. Though, I largely think that the reason that I like the English version so much is because of the script. I don't know who they got to write the dub, but they need to do more anime.

And it has Laura Bailey <3

EDIT: Eh...still, there wasn't really much Deus ex Machina. It was generally explained why they would get stronger then, and what triggered it would more or less be justified. I've never liked the "emotional power boost" either, but I don't really think Yu Yu Hakusho overindulges in it, especially when you consider what their source of power is. But regardless, it generally makes sense when its used, and they don't just leave it as "it's shounen, shut up." It's usually given an explanation or context, but without ever feeling long-winded or reaching Shippo/exposition levels.

...but TTGL is a special case. I hated it at first (which commanded an incredibly negative opinion of TTGL in the beginning), but then I fell in love with spiral power because of thematic genius.

Been a good while since I watched dubbed anime at all.
To be honest, I'd probably watch baccano! dubbed, it not for the fact that the mate I'm watching it with is heavily against it. The only dub that doesn't make him cringe is PsG. Which, I must admit, is a pretty flipping ssshhhugoi dub, by the way.

Baccano! does have a great dub, those guys spoof accents rather well, methinks. That's one of the other anime that I'm pretty adamant about.

I saw Digimon on there was well. I only watched the very beginning, love the Japanese theme song. However, my childhood lies with the catchiness of the dubbed one.
