I'm not going to argue here about opinions on the pokemon...each to his own, after all.
However, you cannot deny that at least there is more type variance in the pokemon, can you? (particularly in Platinum with its' monstrous pokedex, where unlike Hg/Ss, you don't have to catch half of them in the Safari Zone and the others post-E4....).
I'll just leave you guys with my little pearls of wisdom....

I have to admit, some of the Sinnoh pokemon looked really strange and desperate. Buizel's design looked random. Probopass looked like the creator gave up on its design and just made something up.
Bibarel....
But, I saw some of the pokemon of Black and White, and i have to admit, they look pretty nice. And very good in design and looks. I can't wait to get the game =3
