So after watching a friend's playthrough, I decided to do something differently: to play every single region I can using only Psychic-type Pokemon. I hadn't done much challenges lately, so I think this will be a breeze of fresh air for me! So, with each playthough, I'll be sure to document every Psychic-type Pokemon I use, along with certain strategies I use for each gym or notable trainer. Updates will come whenever I can!
Now, why psychic pokemon, you may ask?
Because they are insane.
And it's up to me... to control them and stop their evil plans.

Sooo, for my starter, I chose Mr.Mime! In this case, Ms.Mime... randomly just got a female one through encounter code, but that's the only code I'll use in this game. Anywhooo. It's pretty cool that Mr.Mime first comes with Barrier, and it learns Confusion at level 5! Honestly, Barrier is reaaaally stupidly broken in the early game. STUPIDLY broken. Like there's a difference between broken, and STUPIDLY broken and -- once you get something STUPIDLY broken -- whoooo boy, close your eyes, and let the fun begin.

I... A-after defeating the evil sub-space monster of Kanto, and I got them as an award for my vigilance...

Pidgey is... easy to beat.
Squirtle, not so bad to defeat either. Maybe it's just the power of Mr. Mime in early game.

Luckily Weedle and Caterpie don't learn any Bug Moves early on, so these all are just a collection of easy fights. Weedle here is part poison, so, expect no mercy.

Caterpie faints in one shot with Confusion. Total. Annihilation.

Ah, Metapod is the evolution of Caterpie! You know, I used to call it 'Medapod' and by the way its sprite was in the old games, I thought it faced us backwards because nose was... that pointy thing at the end? But... no, its apparently facing frontwards right now? Took me a good while to get used to it.
By the way, it faints easily, just like the rest.

Well not really. Just pressing Confusion over and over. Damn, Psychic types, you-crazy.
But it's not literally... grey and made of stone, is it? Well, I guess the buildings might be.
I have a feeling there is gonna be LOADS of rock-puns in this.

Geodude is a rock-type, and rock-types are better known for being physically defensive Pokemon. But, it doesn't have much special defense, so it faints just as easily.
Now, I always find it... odd that he has a Sandshrew? It's... not a rock type? But back at Yellow it was still darn annoying because it emphasized the whole, you can't zap ground types with Pikachu.
But Mr.Mime on the other hand, presses the Confusion button and stuff dies.
Oh you poor thing. Keep on going at it.

I always thought it was just eagerness and fun that inspires trainers to do battle, but it also has to do with honor? Hmm...
Ah, the first Gym Leader of the game...
This Geodude acts the same as the previous Geodude. But this time, I'm gonna do a little stradegy:
Using Barrier three times to up her defense to the max. For some reason, Brock uses Defense Curl here a lot? Which, no problem -- Confusion is a special attack move anyway.
She also has Substitute, and there's really no way for him to break it after so many defense buffs.
It's also going to serve as protection against the next Pokemon....
Onix is a bit faster than Geodude, and this one has the move Bide, which pays back double the damage after two turns of storing energy. So I was thinking, just in case Mr. Mime doesn't faint Onix in two attacks, I'd have Substitute to tank the blow from Bide.
Luckily Onix faints after two attacks anyway, and won us the match!

Annnd a new pokemon to tossle against - Ekans. It might seem scary with Intimidate, but...

Another new pokemon! This time, not poison! Jigglypuff is a normal type, having a habit of putting the opponent to sleep using Sing, or using its Cute Charm to infatuate the opponent.
Though, Mr. Mime has Soundproof to block Sing, and she's female. Double the power.
That's what happens when you have one Pokemon.
Route 4 is like an odd rock-path way to Mt. Moon, sooo time to climb those feet!

Mt. Moon isn't really that big, but does have a fair amount of trainers! Only having Mr. Mime, I kinda do worry about our PP for our moves.

So yeah, Team Rocket Grunts. They don't bother giving them actual names, sooo just call em' grunts.
They have similar pokemon like Rattata, Sandshrew, Zubat, etc., so beating them shouldn't be too troubling.

SUPER NERDS tend to have electric and poison type pokemon here. But seriously... I can't take them too seriously?
Like rooooar, you are up against a trainer class called SUPER NERDS... BOW DOWN. TO MY POCKET PEN.
Magnemite are part steel-type so, they can resist Psychic type moves, but they're still no problem to defeat at this level.
Voltorb are more easily dealt with. It might of been scarier at level 15 when it learns Sonicboom.

What are Bug-trainers doing in a cave, anyway? I mean I guess there are Paras, but... wouldn't they prefer a forest, or grassy field...?
Marianne gets Reflect and Light Screen during this fight, which are two very great support moves! Barrier and Substitute gets replaced. They served us well, but these two moves will be better in the long term.

Oddish and Bellsprout are both Poison/Grass types. Annnd of course, like with all Poison-pokemon, they now turn into food.

Hikers like to use Rock-type Pokemon, and the occasional Machop. From our experience of battling Brock, Rock-types in here don't have much Special Defense, so they still go down easily.

After some hunting, we found an Abra! A slippery pokemon to get, because it will Teleport at each skirmish.
That was an insanely lucky catch, haha.
Now, after some grinding:
We gotten ourselves a Kadabra! Kadabra learns Confusion, which it's going to be really hand yhaving a second pokemon to have along our travels.
Its Dex entry is really weird, though.
But! Now it's time to finally fight against Misty. Water pun-gun is set.
Watch where your splashing, pal.
SWIMMERS generally have water-type pokemon, and.. for some reason come in bikini or swim wear.
Horsea and Shellder are new encountered pokemon! Though they both get one-shotted by Kadabra. Even Mr. Mime could do that, but yeah.

PICNICKERS are like the female versions of CAMPERS. Nothing too quickly about them though!
Golden is another water type, just gotta be careful of moves like Supersonic. Still no match for Kadabra, though!

Woo, the battle against Misty at last! And she has pretty tricky Water-type pokemon to deal against.
Staryu isn't bad; though it has a move called Water Pulse, which can confuse. It did actually confuse my Kadabra, but we were lucky to avoid being taking a hit to ourselves.
Slightly tough pokemon still.
Oooh, Disable! Though we probably won't get much use from it, but it will be handy to have.
Starmie can be tough to deal with if you're not prepared for it. Its fast, and can be prone to stall by using Recover over and over.
I set up a Light Screen here, just to mitigate some special damage it throws our way.
Annnnd luckly, Marianne two-shots it with Magical Leaf!
