So after watching a friend's playthrough, I decided to do something differently: to play every single region I can using only Psychic-type Pokemon. I hadn't done much challenges lately, so I think this will be a breeze of fresh air for me! So, with each playthough, I'll be sure to document every Psychic-type Pokemon I use, along with certain strategies I use for each gym or notable trainer. Updates will come whenever I can!

Now, why psychic pokemon, you may ask?

    iPDvZUZ.gif

    Because they are insane.
And it's up to me... to control them and stop their evil plans.

Strap in, this is going to be a wild ride.

Welp, someone has to tame those Psychic Pokemon! It's gotta be... her....

    DGBpwnL.jpg
    Eahx84P.jpg

    *gulp*

    QzZrZMR.jpg

Yeaaaah I know his name is Blue, buuuut I just chose Green. I'll think of many green puns... I promise.

    B9ODxjf.jpg

    I suppose so.
TV is always right, after all.

    Mo7yEN8.jpg
    eyoJzPS.jpg

    FtVFr8H.jpg

Sooo, for my starter, I chose Mr.Mime! In this case, Ms.Mime... randomly just got a female one through encounter code, but that's the only code I'll use in this game. Anywhooo. It's pretty cool that Mr.Mime first comes with Barrier, and it learns Confusion at level 5! Honestly, Barrier is reaaaally stupidly broken in the early game. STUPIDLY broken. Like there's a difference between broken, and STUPIDLY broken and -- once you get something STUPIDLY broken -- whoooo boy, close your eyes, and let the fun begin.

    uWyN8wC.jpg

    Oh... Hi! You... uh... you!

    PZ6j2AC.jpg

    pAWvYE8.jpg

    Y-Yes I do! You see... I have... I have... 10 badges!
I... A-after defeating the evil sub-space monster of Kanto, and I got them as an award for my vigilance...

    Xk9OLwc.jpg

    rLqlxwu.jpg

He saw through my lie... Darn...

    zv7exdQ.jpg

Welp, time for the 'official' first Rival match...

    jOhyTGF.jpg

    Pidgey is... easy to beat.

    kcquP7t.jpg
    EvyDEPo.jpg

Squirtle, not so bad to defeat either. Maybe it's just the power of Mr. Mime in early game.

    vJ9KA1F.jpg
    v0jChm4.jpg

    O-Okay, whatever you say...

    uHmmnv1.jpg

Welp, off to the forest we go!

    GxRVEx9.jpg

Facts. Rattata's bite is no joke. So much destruction.

    1hXv1ux.jpg

    X5AqDk9.jpg
    So1lUWl.jpg

Oh boy, plenty of BUG CATCHERS here.

    An7hKf3.jpg

Luckily Weedle and Caterpie don't learn any Bug Moves early on, so these all are just a collection of easy fights. Weedle here is part poison, so, expect no mercy.

    Zl5Lzb7.jpg

    No. Mercy.

    EvqF0Tc.jpg
    sjzWQQL.jpg

Caterpie faints in one shot with Confusion. Total. Annihilation.

    7HYypQs.jpg
    KWNW0ei.jpg

    Well, you got that right.

    vqvxnkG.jpg
    J31HZHR.jpg

    24zy47T.jpg

How many times must we teach you this lesson, Weedle?

    fHSlswe.jpg

Ooooh, a Kakuna! The evo of Weedle, but still part Poison-type sooo....

    uKQ8V2F.jpg

    No Mercy. Total Annihilation.

    HLBczE7.jpg
    ruy5yJ9.jpg

    Moving on...

    A6SwRoG.jpg
    xLmOYnv.jpg

Another one who uses weak Bug types, so they go down easily.

    LibZKqd.jpg

Meditate prooobably won't be just useful. {Do Mimes even meditate?)

    PSvG0tt.jpg
    BZxrv08.jpg

Gee, I wonder what dashing individual used Confusion to dash all your hopes and dreams... I'll be sure to find them.

    NjZgCPd.jpg

    DxBHXvl.jpg
    qvr83j4.jpg

Ah, Metapod is the evolution of Caterpie! You know, I used to call it 'Medapod' and by the way its sprite was in the old games, I thought it faced us backwards because nose was... that pointy thing at the end? But... no, its apparently facing frontwards right now? Took me a good while to get used to it.

    N9h0mS4.jpg

By the way, it faints easily, just like the rest.

    gDaQeXV.jpg
    jMTByr0.jpg

    Well, how bout' that.

    LW35Imq.jpg
    p2VLFvs.jpg

And here's the last of em'...

    JBY76mg.jpg
    IOJGrsM.jpg

Well not really. Just pressing Confusion over and over. Damn, Psychic types, you-crazy.

    4S9ZExr.jpg

But it's not literally... grey and made of stone, is it? Well, I guess the buildings might be.

    88dA79m.jpg

I have a feeling there is gonna be LOADS of rock-puns in this.

    pau4SSt.jpg
    bL3GfVT.jpg

    But... he's standing right there...

    e8lt3Ve.jpg
    7tOrmco.jpg

Geodude is a rock-type, and rock-types are better known for being physically defensive Pokemon. But, it doesn't have much special defense, so it faints just as easily.

    Pt1boVX.jpg

Now, I always find it... odd that he has a Sandshrew? It's... not a rock type? But back at Yellow it was still darn annoying because it emphasized the whole, you can't zap ground types with Pikachu.

    XshaMh3.jpg

But Mr.Mime on the other hand, presses the Confusion button and stuff dies.

    1UqznZb.jpg
    rNUsVJG.jpg

Oh you poor thing. Keep on going at it.

    5d6U6NZ.jpg
    HwoautW.jpg

And the king of rock puns.

    fa9xTlr.jpg

    Seriously...?

    6exOvv7.jpg

    VsnxsPv.jpg
    kfGxJnb.jpg

I always thought it was just eagerness and fun that inspires trainers to do battle, but it also has to do with honor? Hmm...

    OWFvhFq.jpg
    nBkME4Y.jpg

Ah, the first Gym Leader of the game...

    VHOT01i.jpg

This Geodude acts the same as the previous Geodude. But this time, I'm gonna do a little stradegy:

    CWoM2g8.jpg
    X3zsbGz.jpg

Using Barrier three times to up her defense to the max. For some reason, Brock uses Defense Curl here a lot? Which, no problem -- Confusion is a special attack move anyway.

    qarAayf.jpg
    JQhEdyW.jpg

She also has Substitute, and there's really no way for him to break it after so many defense buffs.

    UjbR4jz.jpg

It's also going to serve as protection against the next Pokemon....

    oEf7a60.jpg

Onix is a bit faster than Geodude, and this one has the move Bide, which pays back double the damage after two turns of storing energy. So I was thinking, just in case Mr. Mime doesn't faint Onix in two attacks, I'd have Substitute to tank the blow from Bide.

    oWFr2XV.jpg

Luckily Onix faints after two attacks anyway, and won us the match!

    RCOyDjP.jpg
    1JQRWOz.jpg

Kinda did, but I guess we...
    ...Rocked you.

    kmvuk06.jpg

Well, I guess we could of won sooner...
If only we'd been a little boulder!

    I'll stop soon.

On the last episode of Psychic Ball Z...

    Gym_Leader_Stadium.png

The evil forces of the Kanto League... have arrived on planet Earth.

    PZ6j2AC.jpg
    pAWvYE8.jpg

And after a dreadful first encounter... Viol-ku, and her best friend Gr-illin...

    1hXv1ux.jpg

Then head to the Hyper-Viridian Time Chamber, in preparation for their rematch against this new threat.

    VsnxsPv.jpg
    OWFvhFq.jpg

Now having perfected the Confu-ken and the Spirit-chic techniques, past down by King Oak...

    oWFr2XV.jpg
    1JQRWOz.jpg

...The Z warriors defeated commander Brock, and his Rock-type army.

    zKFdDK7.png

But now, the Z warriors are about to clash with their strongest foe this season.
Will they prevail? Or is the earth... ultimately doomed?

    Stay tuned!

    AJqqbeD.jpg

Augh, finally. Now we can actually RUN. Kinda finally how getting running shoes gives us the super power of RUNNING, but I ain't complaining!

    Qg7KXl4.jpg

    I guess...?

    NyHPc2v.jpg

So yeah, first LASS of the game. Basic run of the mill pokemon trainers who have easy-to-obtain, or cute pokemon.

    0lfslZA.jpg
    ApZqxJF.jpg

...They also have a habit on calling you mean after losing. Hm.

    kDv87aY.jpg

    Ooookay....
    ...

    jiiiiiiii...
    Utg4.gif

    ....

    jYSKml4.jpg

    I literally don't remember you...

    vGNS9cP.jpg

    Yeah. I don't.

    stySuna.jpg

Meanwhile, Doubleslap is a pretty interesting move that's not a Psychic-type, sooo I'll keep it just in case.

    qoCnEBr.jpg
    AMyGZRG.jpg

Seriously. Whoooo areeee yooou? We have never battled before...

    qufvntf.jpg
    2wW7JJ3.jpg

    Ah yes... this guy...

    3dDLVv5.jpg

YOUNGSTERS are like male versions of LASSES, who also have run-of-the mill Pokemon.

    YpGSh1C.jpg

Annnd a new pokemon to tossle against - Ekans. It might seem scary with Intimidate, but...

    YOn95UV.jpg

As a Poison type - you guessed it - it gets No. Mercy.

    eze19jA.jpg
    7D448hs.jpg

    Let's move on!

    s8lerSo.jpg

    tenor.gif

    Hcsvb8z.jpg
    HQy2zj1.jpg

Annnd that's a Spearow. Another Flying-type, like Pidgey, but still easy to beat all the same.

    V0e4u5t.jpg

    Win!
    Win! Win!

    CpScX3G.jpg

    8552.gif

    ekNM6MV.jpg

    jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~

    Utg4.gif

    8goDh4U.jpg
    zpba3Zn.jpg

Nidoran is another new pokemon to battle against!

    ZR7sD2g.jpg

...But it's another Poison type. You wonder why Psychic types were so good in Gen 1. They just throw you Poison over and over.

    afIDT55.jpg
    4rbNxkM.jpg

    A-Alright... god dang.

    36w9Ow6.jpg

No, you... came close to me after you saw me.

    RLozIJ1.jpg
    gwpJhex.jpg

Another new pokemon! This time, not poison! Jigglypuff is a normal type, having a habit of putting the opponent to sleep using Sing, or using its Cute Charm to infatuate the opponent.

    UUC2IYs.jpg

Though, Mr. Mime has Soundproof to block Sing, and she's female. Double the power.

    exs14bQ.jpg
    d46xEe5.jpg

That's what happens when you have one Pokemon.

    bPoSld4.jpg
    i1gTHO6.jpg

Route 4 is like an odd rock-path way to Mt. Moon, sooo time to climb those feet!

    VSZg3B6.jpg

    How...?

    AdnKote.jpg
    krcO1EL.jpg

Mt. Moon isn't really that big, but does have a fair amount of trainers! Only having Mr. Mime, I kinda do worry about our PP for our moves.

    2j0Htk5.jpg

    Well... Violet isn't a man...

    SsJ0pj8.jpg

Another Bug Trainer with low leveled Bug Pokemon.

    khCPdnz.jpg

    Ho Hum.

    896rmLo.jpg

TEAM ROCKET, eh? I guess we should look out for them...

    4hoxMmW.jpg

...And BLOOD THIRSTY BATS?! This cave is scaaaary!

    qBRxDY3.jpg

What are you... playing hide and seek?

    dB2ipbY.jpg
    w9IzIoe.jpg

Another new mon - Clefairy! Clefairy can send you to sleep and infatuate you just like Jigglypuff, but weeee know what happened against Jigglypuff, so...

    jZJBnTg.jpg

    ... Fate repeats itself!

    NMuLO5m.jpg
    vRzywJd.jpg

    You sure did.

    obcDTuS.jpg

    The Pokemon mafia...? uh oh....

    Ic5XgC6.jpg

So yeah, Team Rocket Grunts. They don't bother giving them actual names, sooo just call em' grunts.

    cap8jkg.jpg

They have similar pokemon like Rattata, Sandshrew, Zubat, etc., so beating them shouldn't be too troubling.

    vKU8X9C.jpg

Sir? You came up against me...

    Cu9Zzlz.jpg

SUPER NERDS tend to have electric and poison type pokemon here. But seriously... I can't take them too seriously?
Like rooooar, you are up against a trainer class called SUPER NERDS... BOW DOWN. TO MY POCKET PEN.

    Sbr3p8J.jpg

Magnemite are part steel-type so, they can resist Psychic type moves, but they're still no problem to defeat at this level.

    NZw237Y.jpg
    MyBSFNx.jpg

Voltorb are more easily dealt with. It might of been scarier at level 15 when it learns Sonicboom.

    r9ofiM5.jpg
    lrI84cv.jpg

Yeah, so does your trainer class.

    cHzYvY1.jpg

    DMXaI05.jpg

What are Bug-trainers doing in a cave, anyway? I mean I guess there are Paras, but... wouldn't they prefer a forest, or grassy field...?

    SAk1TUe.jpg
    oMG9nSf.jpg

Marianne gets Reflect and Light Screen during this fight, which are two very great support moves! Barrier and Substitute gets replaced. They served us well, but these two moves will be better in the long term.

    buCNu8Q.jpg
    7iylYOS.jpg

    Of course you did.

    P0ozUF1.jpg

I'm beginning to think so too...

    N5uzfkP.jpg

    7Nkbt3L.jpg
    2BDEqzf.jpg

Oddish and Bellsprout are both Poison/Grass types. Annnd of course, like with all Poison-pokemon, they now turn into food.

    DEVfVoG.jpg
    IRVaG6J.jpg

Still a fair amount of trainers in here to battle.

    A0VZBd2.jpg

I... actually don't know what you're doing here at all.

    nGwbPIg.jpg

    Hi, Rocket Grunt.

    GmD9JW2.jpg

    Bye, Rocket Grunt.

    5w9KaBl.jpg

    867b3a6f74713db5b63199d717bb3862.gif

    Verrrry good.

    FokvzR4.jpg

Okay, this time I don't blame them. I diiid sneak up on him.

    47wuWj5.jpg

Hikers like to use Rock-type Pokemon, and the occasional Machop. From our experience of battling Brock, Rock-types in here don't have much Special Defense, so they still go down easily.

    WSpFhCN.jpg
    hyIbVwy.jpg

Might wanna get that looked at.

    sIy8VS5.jpg
    7nd36jf.jpg

    For me, or for you?

    mnxf9xQ.jpg

Another easy Grunt to take down.

    HImVEOv.jpg
    lvZF1Tx.jpg

    tumblr_inline_p3n515X6cS1t60t63_500.png

    XOg8ZIe.jpg
    jg0wF6B.jpg

Huh. I can see how well that can work out, actually.

    nECvnJ2.jpg

    YIt5JqL.jpg

    953.gif

    c2C1361.jpg

    953.gif

    Almost to the exit now!

    1KyDSSY.jpg
    Mhea54n.jpg

    I mean, I don't even want them--

    krLewu3.jpg

Ooookay, I guess we're doing this now!

    yXBvyV1.jpg
    6fq3250.jpg

Koffing and Grimer are both Poison types. Seriously, one Poison-type after another?
    Keep them coming.
    I'll devour their souls.

    jnjvJ5V.jpg
    TCTExsz.jpg

Well, sharing is caring, after all.

    cT9zTxu.jpg

Says the guy who wanted to take both for himself... but oh well.

    uNJTE2B.jpg

Taking the Helix Fossil, but I'm not gonna use it. This is a Psychic run, after all!

    GYk95eB.jpg

We're fiiinally here at Cerulean! Before we take on the Gym though, there's one Pokemon I wanna get--

    1kVe3vS.jpg

...But first, Green gets in our way.

    B85Q0NL.jpg
    x0EagV6.jpg

    Uhhhh...

    OBAPfrh.jpg

    Yeah. Still one Pokemon.

    5TN4wyV.jpg

Pidgeotto - evolution of Pidgey - its faster and stronger, and should pose as a challenge.

    rFP6BOy.jpg

Unless Mr. Mime gets a critical hit on it.

    NHp69KK.jpg

Oooh, Magical Leaf will be a really great move for the Gym.

    ti7rHES.jpg

Ah, Abra... I wonder why Green doesn't evolve it? It's... level 16...?
    It still only has Teleport?
    Well, no matter.

    OK12aFY.jpg
    z9Xkmob.jpg

    Y-you take it easy...

    6mymjIG.jpg

Whew, Route 24. Annnd you know what that means?

    6rM3aCI.jpg
    C3fe9aD.jpg

    9bgnooE.jpg

Welp, let's see how good I can do!

    ED84Cuz.jpg

Another Bug Cather, but nothing special.

    FQmaMz6.jpg
    yEvnaAd.jpg

    One down, four to go!

    VmV274Q.jpg

    ShyHeartyFlyingsquirrel-size_restricted.gif

    eFzWa2O.jpg
    NKiEaTM.jpg

    Seriously.
    Oh well.

    Two down, three to go!

    fiIDkAR.jpg

    Hmmm...

    0bWYux0.jpg
    aUkn4JP.jpg

    ...Yeah. That was easy.

    fdjuJU7.jpg

    Three down, two to go!

    GNwFl8k.jpg

(It was late at night making this so kinda!)

    LVP52yw.jpg
    Gw8wD41.jpg

    But I guess I... RELI wasn't!

    O0Ccbk6.jpg

    Only one to go!

    z6G3uZP.jpg

    I would not like that...

    7EFLvYm.jpg

A new pokemon we haven't seen yet - Mankey! But Mankey is a fighting type, and fighting types also gets eaten by Psychics, and bopped on the head.
I called the doctor after this battle, and the doctor said:

    tnsOVCw.jpg

"No more Mankeys jumping on the bed!"

    6h6BX8Y.jpg
    u6vn2kG.jpg

I know. The puns are too much, man. But, we've beaten them all!

    9WxERaX.jpg

    Woo!

    cMCRdXO.jpg

    ...Huh?

    Epu2olE.jpg

    But... Violet is ten.

    9wlqOot.jpg

    No...?

    z2hyXTb.jpg

    Yes...?

    2ojehNJ.jpg

    No.

    cjnTPoE.jpg

    I said no!

    4Y6JQPj.jpg

    Come again?

    lwzVMBQ.jpg
    9sJJ4Qe.jpg

Well, surprise, surprise! A Rocket Grunt! I actually do wonder, was this all planned behind the scenes by Team Rocket? Or were they all Jr. Rocket Grunts all along? Hmm.

    lsNLIvA.jpg

    867b3a6f74713db5b63199d717bb3862.gif

    Verrrry good.

    dyX6VPR.jpg
    1zmqv5Q.jpg

    ...
    ...
    I might call back.

    bV8FM9x.jpg

Wait, you saw my 'feat'? Or you saw my... feet?

    Sgddox5.jpg

(btw, Shane is the name of my dad)

    VKhKkxR.jpg
    VKz7aLp.jpg

So, you thought you saw my er... feat? Huh?
    Anyway...

    oHpLLX2.jpg

After some hunting, we found an Abra! A slippery pokemon to get, because it will Teleport at each skirmish.

    Hh14DmX.jpg
    g98z0RS.jpg

That was an insanely lucky catch, haha.
    Now, after some grinding:

    cwCHVKl.jpg
    KmuHzcz.jpg

We gotten ourselves a Kadabra! Kadabra learns Confusion, which it's going to be really hand yhaving a second pokemon to have along our travels.

    oSGZW2E.jpg

Its Dex entry is really weird, though.

    hyDLMP5.jpg

But! Now it's time to finally fight against Misty. Water pun-gun is set.

    VgDWu2R.jpg

    Watch where your splashing, pal.

    ergzARU.jpg
    oKkoI08.jpg

SWIMMERS generally have water-type pokemon, and.. for some reason come in bikini or swim wear.

    wNhGyIZ.jpg
    2KmiUPY.jpg

Horsea and Shellder are new encountered pokemon! Though they both get one-shotted by Kadabra. Even Mr. Mime could do that, but yeah.

    APoW0K8.jpg
    70GrCOa.jpg

I guess you should.... sea why you lost, huh?

    LaNfOh9.jpg
    6VhuDg9.jpg

Ugh, you're almost as bad as that "light-year" guy.

    xBHO8xp.jpg

PICNICKERS are like the female versions of CAMPERS. Nothing too quickly about them though!

    lgfc3TO.jpg

Golden is another water type, just gotta be careful of moves like Supersonic. Still no match for Kadabra, though!

    D0dfpKS.jpg
    iJf8qYN.jpg

Woo, the battle against Misty at last! And she has pretty tricky Water-type pokemon to deal against.

Staryu isn't bad; though it has a move called Water Pulse, which can confuse. It did actually confuse my Kadabra, but we were lucky to avoid being taking a hit to ourselves.

Starmie can be tough to deal with if you're not prepared for it. Its fast, and can be prone to stall by using Recover over and over.
