E3 expectations?

You know, if Popplio ends up being Fairy like some people are thinking now, it could end up evolving into a Selkie. A Selkie is a fairy that takes the form of a seal while at sea, but can shed it's skin on land and appear as a person. Male Selkie were said to be handsome and seduced lonely women. Meanwhile females who were unfortunate to get captured or get their seal skin caught by a human man could be controlled by them and forced to be his wife. Anyways,Popplio for sure has something backing the Fairy type in real life lore. GF has based Fairies on word play and fairy related stuff. Word play example; Gen VI we got a Fairy based on Cotton candy, in some countries (i think Australia) the stuff is called 'Fairy Floss' irc.
Myth examples; We also got a Fairy that was a deer. The Celtic people refered to Deer as 'Fairy Cattle'. The retcon Gen III Fairy, Mawile is based on a Yokai.

It is possible for it to have a form change to include that. Each starter having some type of form change could be what the secrete for them is.

Now that I think about, Kukui is the Professor of Moves. With us getting those form changes for the Legends, wonder if there is more to it then we think? The dog and starters could have a signature move when they are fully evolved to cause them to got through a type of form change.

With the legends, they called them faces. Rising Sun Phase for Solgaleo and Full Moon for Lunala. Wonder if the more you use these moves, the different they change, and after a certain number of times, say 4 times of using the signature move, they become Burst or Synchro Phase. Boosting their stats each time the move is used.

They hinted at something similar, Rayquaza has to have Dragon's Ascent to become a Mega and Ash-Greninja changes when he gets ready to use Giant Water Shuriken. They could be superior to Megas, but they have to build up to it?

Solgalaeon could have the Rising Sun, Falling Sun and High Noon phases and Lunala could have the New Moon, Half Moon, and Full Moon phases. I am not sure on the starters.

That is just something I came up with. And now I strongly believe, with Kukui being confirmed to be Prof. of Moves, it is very possibly for diamonds on the new wrist watch to be linked to pokemon attacks.

Pokken also used a similar idea. The more a pokemon attacked, the more a guage filled up and would eventually be able to use Synergy Burst to mega evolve for a special attack, or use special attacks for pokemon who couldn't mega evolve.

Speaking of a selkie-based final stage for Popplio, let's all remember this "fake" leak:
Spoiler:

Now that I look back on what you mentioned about the lore of selkies and this pic it seems that a Water/Fairy Popplio evo is more likely than a lot of us first thought, and the confirmation of learning Disarming Voice seems to be one step to showing it's going to be a thing.

Just saying guys, just because it learns a move of a different type doesn't guarantee that it'll be that type in its final evolution.

Of course, it's very possible that it'll be a Fairy-type, but at this point, it's way too early to say it's anything close to definite.

I am 50-50 on the Water/Fairy theory, but I'm starting to understand its likeliness from a lore perspective on how sea lions are linked to selkies. Still, when we see the middle evolutions we'll get an idea on what final stage types they could gain, like what the Kalos starters hinted when their middle stages were revealed.

Maybe it get Disarming Voice because it can manage to do loud sound like normal Seals.

I think it'll be Water/Fairy or Water/Fighting. It would however, be a shocker if it did get formes, one that is Water/Fighting and another that's Water/Fairy.

I think Water/Fighting seems unlikely now at this point given Popplio is a bulky special attacker, and Fighting-types are mainly physical with very few special moves.

Popplio is, but we have had Pokémon with higher special attack stats evolve into Physical attackers. Also, GF could be bucking the trend of fighting types if it'll remain like that. Plus I don't think we know what nature the Popplio used was.

I know we've had Pokemon that change playstyle when they evolve, but it's not very common and doesn't seem to happen to starters. The nature hasn't been confirmed like you said, but since starters don't usually change stat alignments as they evolve I can't see Water/Fighting happening.

Our first starter to evolve into a Fighting type actually has 10 more points in it's special attack Base stat compared to it's Attack. Blaziken in contrast more physical oriented, with it's Attack as the strongest offensive stat. And counting Megas, Mega Blaziken's attack is 30 points higher than it's special attack.

Now that I recall, I think Blaziken was the only outlier to this. Infernape (who was also Fire/Fighting) had equal stats in both offenses. All the others seemed to not change stat alignments that much.

And if you count Megas, Mega Charizard X fits too. It's a mix attacker, which is in contrast to the special attacking Charizard (Mega Charizard Y follows normal Charizard though).

Fun fact, Keldeo has the highest special attack stat of the Fighting type. Plus, it's Keldeo's highest offensive stat by a longshot.

Speaking of Keldeo, it's Secret Sword, and Meloetta's Relic song are the earliest examples of form changing moves, with Meloetta using it in battle, and Keldeo needing to know Secret Sword out of battle. Then we got Aegislash, and Mega Rayquaza which are slightly different cases, but similar.
