Do you ever find yourself emotionally invested in the show? Be it through the show as a whole, the characters, pokemon, etc?

For instance when Ash was turned to stone in Mewtwo Strikes Back and the pokemon were crying I am pretty sure as a kid I was doing the same. When they show the Lavender Tower episode I laugh at Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar every time.

From time to time I got emotionally attached with the characters. Like when Ash win I am happy for him, but when he suffers a lose like when he fought Richie I felt bad for him. Inversely when he has a capture or one of his pokemon evolves I am just as excited as he character is when that happens.

Then there is the sadness when a character parts like Misty, or Brock. But then right after I have a new beginning to look forward to.

Also do you believe the show lends itself to emotional investment by the fans either through it's comedic style, or character relationships that lead some fans to creating shippings between them? Or anything for that matter.

Oh Yes I do! However sometimes I act like some sort of parental guidance :P Yep, I scold for that and recommend that for him....well he can't hear me...its his problem <_<

And, they won't create emotional scene with no reason, so, it is pretty common to get linked with their feelings i think.

There are a load of emotional scenes I've loved in the anime. It's quite easy to really cling to a character, and honestly, I always feel really sad either seeing a person go.

May is a very certain character I quite stuck with during AG. I always found it funny how May for upset to easily, she must of cried in the anime like, a million times. Although, it really hit me seeing her cry when she lost against Soledad in the Kanto Grand Festival.

Oh, and theres Molly in the 3rd movie, I really felt sorry for her, her mum and her father missing, and the whole Unown situation, it was a real heartwarming end, even seeing her mother again, and having her own cute lil' Teddiursa.

There was that certain episode in DP, 'Pika and Goliath', it was a very good character development episode, and honestly it really showed me how I'd clinged on to Ash and Pikachu whilst watching the whole series, it very much did remind me of the episode with Lt. Surge, but it had a lot more meaning to it. Giving Pikachu the option to evolve again, and seeing scene in the Pokémon Center, even with Flash backs. :'<

/There a load more I could think of, but it would take too long to write.

Oh God yes... Cried like a little girl when Dawn left, hahaha... Piplup's reaction was all it took. When Gliscor left Ash, it was horrible too! There's many times this kind of thing has happened, but it'd take far too long to describe them all... But oh man I miss Dawn. D:

As for the shipping point - I don't think they actually intended for this due to the show being designed for younger people (cough) but people are always going to invent these kind of stories around characters, no matter where they're from.
