Ever had a 'crush' on a Pokemon

Okay, okay. You got me there that my comment was slightly off-the-line. However, the problem that I perceive is that a third of the people claiming to have a crush on a Pokemon are trying to fit in, another third doesn't understand that a "crush" is above the standards of platonic love - i.e. one may claim love to a certain Pokemon merely for the reason that it is their favorite, etc. without thoroughly analyzing the prospects of having both a mental and physical relationship with said Pokemon; and the other third are legitimately claiming such things.

The attraction to Pokemon is analogous to bestiality and for the reason that this forum is intended to be family safe, I will not discuss the morals and societal code / physical issues, such as zoonosis, behind this.

An analogy would be if someone was "attracted" to Growlithe. What if their dog in real life were similar looking to the Pokemon? Would you be willing to develop a physical relationship with the dog? In my opinion, many people aren't considering the plausibility behind their whimsical declarations.

What it seems is that this claimed love is based solely off of Pokemon appearances, as no Pokemon has a set personality - something that sets these imaginary creatures apart from human beings. What I don't understand is how one can become attracted to a certain Pokemon through these appearances alone - after all, they are only cartoon designs; it's okay to like a design, but I don't think it warrants non-platonic love for an entire species.

To those who are legitimately attracted to Pokemon, i.e. animals, it's a matter of society. If you feel it is right, and there is indication that the animal is not in any way harmed or in discomfort from the relationship, then fine. Your call, anyway.

Just leave me out of it.

Errr... Sorry... But whats "Pokephiliacs"?

Used lightly to describe "one who likes Pokemon," or on a more serious level to mean "one who is sexually attracted to Pokemon."

I'm rather impressed at your guts, Ratiosu. No many can say things outright like that.

However lets be careful we don't find ourselves talking about things that shouldn't be mentioned on a place like this. After all there are young people about.

like little 10 year olds, but I've heard a lot of things innaprpriate for my age because its always like that in my neighborhood.

Gardevoir.
Heck, the Japanese PBBS is still alive and I still visit it from time to time.
No, that's just silly.
Pokephilia is not real and you guys are just trying to be creepy.
I'd think otherwise... especially after seeing the said PBBS's other side and Pixiv.
Oh man, Pixiv...

I'm rather impressed at your guts, Ratiosu. No many can say things outright like that.

Thank you ^^

Oh yeah, guys. Gardevoir isn't always a girl.
And it has something stuck in its chest, so you're part necrophile too.

Duh. Of course Gardevoir isn't always a girl. The males are in love with the female ones, and the female ones are in love with the male ones.

And who said it was dead? The Pokedex entry says, "It will give its life to protect its trainer." How can it give its life if it's dead? Maybe it's on each side. Or maybe it's stuck through and that part is not important to a Gardevoir. Pokemon are not always built like humans; Shedinja doesn't even have a soul.

And even if Gardevoir was dead, who said we were necrophile? Maybe that particular Pokemon attracts us for other reasons instead of its living status. Maybe I am attracted to Gallade - does that mean I love every green Pokemon? Or maybe my love for Latios means that I must also love his sister, because she looks the same as him.

So what? This is totally family safe. If we had a Gay/Lesbian/Bi Club (which we most likely do), would you yell at them? 10-year-olds shouldn't be looking at that...but it's still there. Because some people figured out they had a condition and wanted to talk about it somewhere safe.

Let me explain: take Absol, for instance. Absol attracts me because he is always getting blamed for things that he didn't do. And yet he is always looking for someone who can understand him the way he is. There is an almost human quality about that, but it's not quite - however, I can't stop loving that about him. I want to come home to Absol and know that it will always be there for me. I want to lay on the couch and watch TV and have it come up next to me and lay beside me, its warm body on mine, knowing that I will never leave it either. I don't want it to leave my side for one second, and I want to form more than a casual friendship with it.

Just because it is wolf/cat-shaped doesn't mean I go around falling in love with wolves and cats. First of all, pretty much every Pokemon acts different than their animal counterpart in some significant way. Yes, they all have different personalities, but the general behavior pattern is what we're talking about. Maybe it's a rebel, maybe it's completely obedient. Doesn't change what I was talking about in the last paragraph. Because when we were are together, we're both going to act like we're together. We're not going to turn away from each other and fend each other off just because Absol is a rebel or whatever.

'Your Hand In Mine' is pretty much a complete reflection of my feelings, would Gallade be real. Having it humanoid helps many people compare it to a human and find it more reliable, more supportive, more loyal than an actual human because it can't leave you. And eventually you grow to like each other and yada yada yada. That's why Gallade is more often liked. But the non-humanoid Pokemon have a large fan base too.

No Pokemon has a set personality - something that sets these imaginary creatures apart from human beings.

*gasps* And no human has a set personality either - would you look at that?

I don't think it warrants non-platonic love for an entire species.

Of course not. Who said we loved the entire species? That's like taking me, and saying that I like boys, so I should like the entire species. We have (almost) all had experiences with a certain Pokemon, a certain Absol/Gallade/Buizel/Lopunny and discovered that we were attracted to it, except of course the people who just go for appearances...certain personalitied-Pokemon would make me want to run away, and certain ones would make me feel all fluttery inside. (Inside joke.) And their appearances change, as seen in the anime (hullo, what about the old ones? The young ones? The ones who stand stupidly off in the corner, staring at nothing? No one will fall in love with the latter, unless they only go for appearance.), so they don't all look the same.

However lets be careful we don't find ourselves talking about things that shouldn't be mentioned on a place like this. After all there are young people about.

Yeah, which is why I'm not talking about CENSORED.

XD

Like little 10 year olds, but I've heard a lot of things innaprpriate for my age because its always like that in my neighborhood.

Doesn't make it right, so I'm trying to stay away from more sexual descriptions of my argument and all xP

lopunny is totally lushus! lol, its curves and stuff lol

^^^^Example of appearance-based lust after Pokemon because they look humanoid.^^^^

Not saying it's wrong, just explaining. That way, he could fall for any Lopunny because he's not thinking of personality. Get it?

*sighs deeply* Sorry, I just get heated up about this subject. I'm trying not to start a fight...I just speak my opinion, and I'm the kind of girl who will do this.

Where he has a crush on something humanoid... I have a crush on Mars, Dawn, Sapphire from the Manga, Blue/Leaf from the Manga and Fire Red and Leaf Green, and Cynthia... but my pokemon of choice is Ninetales...

I meant Crush... Male Gardevour remind me of Eddie Izzard for some reason...

Not my thing. But man, power to you for not letting peoples opinions get to you.

Dudes... it is not Pokephelia... Stop making up new words, there is already a word for this kind of stuff to animals.

It is called... can I say it?

No, what I wanted to discuss is definitely not family-safe. Obviously, we are not on the same page here at all. Besides, I was just as gay when I was 10 than ever. Maybe you could tell me that you were attracted to animals when you were 10 as well and we'd be happy together.

Let me explain: take Absol, for instance. Absol attracts me because he is always getting blamed for things that he didn't do. Except this is exactly what I was getting to. You don't know that Absol is like that. That's just a generalization added to a fantasy humanization of that certain Pokemon. This way, you are falling in love with your imagination.

"More than a casual friendship" = "Strong friendship" =/= "Physical relationship"
It's still platonic in the way you describe it.

Also, many of the people here are expressing their love through a Pokemon's appearance. That's cartoon zoophilia right there.

*gasps* And no human has a set personality either - would you look at that?

I was referring to an individual. An individual human has their own personality.

You can't make this generalization with Pokemon, though, since there is no instance of set personalities within a species outside of maybe one or two you saw in the anime. If you successfully fall in love with a Pokemon for its personality that you've created personally, then congratulations, you've fallen in love with your imagination. This is analogous to a writer who falls in love with a character they are designing. That's desperation to the max (or some sick passion in idealistic qualities, imho).

Pokemon do not have personalities. Personalities given to Pokemon are fabrications made by you or the writer(s) of whatever story you're reading. The latter is more acceptable for me in terms of sensibility, but you still do not know many of the things about the Pokemon you claim love with. Let's take Pikachu. What do you know about Pikachu besides that it cares immensely about Ash and it hates going into its Pokeball?

For me, it seems nothing more than a "Oh, that's so cute. How adorable." kind of thing, rather than a "Oh, you're so cute. Let's get married and have children." kind of thing.

If he falls for every Lopunny, then that's falling in love with an entire species, like you gracefully denied earlier.

I am not speaking in a hostile tone.
Personally, I am having a good laugh over this.

Lets just deal with the fact that this seems too much like a topic about Beastiality... why can't this be about characters we have crushes on...

laugh all you want but we're happy being poke philiacs, so leave us be.

I am not laughing at you. I am laughing at the situation.
Back up your claims with argument or I'll continue to view you as a noob who is trying to fit in too much.

well we're still happy being this way and I agree with the absol thing, I feel so bad for it.

Pity / Sympathy is not the same thing as love.
Let's pity all the poor people out there... And, heck, let's add in all the emo kids too. We're not falling in love with them, though.

well with the Absol thing I feel bad because everyone stays away from it because it brings disasters but I still feel like I really love it.
