I have an idea for a potential game - a scientist hands the player an egg that hatches into a baby Pokemon resembling small white dog. Under the right conditions, the Pokemon can evolve either to Entei, Suicune, or Raikou. The player can also obtain a held item that allows them to create more of the prevolutions, and thus they are able to obtain all three Legendary Dogs.

Do you think this is too easy, and takes away from the challenge of chasing down the Legendary Dogs? Do you think it's a good method for obtaining one legendary, but not all three?

Meh, I don't count Manaphy. You can't make more of them - they breed Phione only.

Yes, there's a bit of a backstory to it. The region is going through environmental and social crises. One of the effects is that popular opinion is very strong against genetic engineering, so much that the scientist's funding has been cancelled and all of his research is to be confiscated. He had been working on cloning legendaries out of scraps of DNA, since one has never been captured. Fortunately, the player, a complete stranger, comes along and takes the scientist's egg, the only concrete result of the research, and is given the option to hatch it. When it hatches, he recieves a phonecall (the scientist has set up a secret lab elsewhere) and more instructions.

I could work in evolving the three Legendary Birds in a very similar manner. Six legendaries in a game - too much?

Lucario and Arcanine are NOT Legendaries....:(

Anyway, if these conditions are unusual or hard to achieve, lets say, you have to get its happiness to max and level it up at a certain place, for example, then I guess not...as long as its not something simple like get --- to level 20 or something like that :\

Phione doesn't evolve into Manaphy, so it doesn't really count as a pre-evolution. Lati@s and Lugia don't have evolutions or pre-evolutions - besides, they don't have genders, so how would they breed?

The conditions for evolution won't be too complicated - all you need to do is place the right stone (Fire, Water, or Thunder) into a larger stone on top of a hill, and the prevolution will evolve. However, the process is left to the player to figure out, so it could become easier/more difficult depending on the hints that the game gives. Figuring out how to breed more pre-evolutions (necessary to own all three Legendary Dogs) will be substantially more difficult.

Anything to get rid of hunting down the stupid dogs is fine by me.

It violates a fundamental rule in the Pokémon universe. Legendary Pokémon do not evolve. :/ So, I think it's not that awesome an idea, but you can do what you want!

I agree and it kinda is what make Legendary Pokémon unique.

Ugh also not being able to breed is what makes them unique also. Manaphy and Phione are very different in the fact that breeding Manaphy does not make more Manaphy. Any way if you make it that easy then what's the fun of catching Legendary Dogs?

Heh, well, Mezase Master doesn't think it's fun. xD I see what you mean, though. I always thought that having the Legendary Dogs run through Johto was a clever game mechanic.

I don't want to rip off the idea entirely, but I do want to include the Legendary Dogs in my game, because they're my favourite legendaries. Include all three, most importantly, not just one as in FR/LG.

maybe some kinda use of your idea but maybe not with breeding or evolving but with fomes instead.

You mean formes? I don't quite see how that would work...creating a Pokemon that could take on the appearance and abilities of any of the Legendary Dogs would be breaking far too many rules for my liking.

He means forms, like the current legendary Pokémon have. The sky form is an example. Anyway, I like the idea of evolving legendarys but, the preevolutions/evolutions would then be legendary as well. As for a Pokémon that can take on the appearance and abilities of a legendary anything, we have one of those already. It's called ditto.

Acctually we have two of those, and the other one is a legendary pokemon called Mew ;). Mew comes with the attack transform and is shown in the movies as a pokemon that can transform into any other.

This violates the legend concerning the Legendary Dogs. In G/S/C, the player is told that the three dogs were unidentified Pokemon that perished in the Brass Tower, until Ho-Oh reincarnated them. Having humans create a Pokemon that can somehow evolve into these three unique Pokemon breaks that legend. The only exception to this that I can come up with is if somehow, the scientists captures, or collected data, on the three Legendary Dogs and then merged that data into an undeveloped Pokemon Egg that could hatch into the pre-evolution. Actually, that sounds pretty good...

I don't think that breeding them is a good idea I kinda spoils the idea of getting a legandary that no one else has. But evolving is an alright idea.
