6th Gen Exp. Share and other item Mechanics changes speculation and discussion

That's dumb; after you beat the league? I'll have to check out marriland, then.

I doubt you'll find it there. It's a very old post

Oh. -. Well my B2 deleted save file so I will have to restart it amd try it out.

I think one of the reasons it was unpopular is the fact that only Black2 had it and one needed to beat the league in order to get it...and for those with White2 we had to find someone with the key in order to get it ourselves.

I hope they bring it back but make it so that it's the beginning of the game.

Yea... I agree 100%. But, the hard mode needs to be a parental setting. Kids playing the game just flare blitz everything or whatever- even with type disadvantage. They couldn't get last the first rival battle and probably quit the game.

I remember when Pokemon had more of a challenge to it. Now, you get the Exp. Share and when you have it turned on, your starting Pokemon still gets FULL XP and then all other 5 Pokemon also get too much XP. I dont know how it already stands but Exp Share and EXP All should be seperate items because realistically they're needed for different purposes and circumstances. EXP All in the campaign is useless, I dont need my HM-slave overleveled. EXP All is only necessary for when you've reached the post-game and just grinding with the Elite-4. EXP share is for individual assistances in youe party. Having EXP ALL as the standard just makes grinding less fun and cuts the gameplay time in half. Being overleveled is the most boring part of Pokemon. Unless at the cost you got half the experience from EXP all.

The hard mode is unlocked after beating the champion.
What exactly is the point of hardmode if the story mode will always be easy? Hardmode should be a starting option for the entire game if selected in starting it. Rival battles havent ever been hard since Gen 2. With rivals as weak as they are today especially with their "I'm new, lets be friends" attitude the games just feel like cake walks. I wish Pokemon was Persona hard where it required actual strategy to beat OP bosses, not simply abusing your advantages. I find myself powering through games with my starter and one or two other Pokemon. For me, this takes the fun out of it. Usually, I ditch my high-leveled Pokemon for more of a challenge but in general the games are too easy now even without EXP share. Gym leaders only have three pokemon, Elite four members only get four, and the story AI have no competitve strategies unlike Pkm Colosseum.

Blue,Wally,Barry, and Bianca were some of the hardest rivals I've fought. Silver, Hugh, and Serena were the easiest... (everyone not listed was moderate) though to be fair to Silver I found him more difficult in the one battle I had with him in Silver (a friend had lended it to me) than in the remakes. I hope the opposite sex rival and Wally aren't made easy...

The story mode gets a hard mode. I think you misunderstood. Your point is exactly why we need it.

Its accesibility didnt make sense if you get it after you beat the champion according to the claim, at what point can you even really use it?

The only time May/Brendan was ever a challenge was pre-New Mauville if they had a Grovile or Combusken-double kick. Beyond that they aren't even youngster tier. No rival ever feels Gary-hard anymore. Hugh. Bianca, Shauna, Trevor, the fat guy and Serena werent even worth my time. They didnt even feel like rivals because they werent at all trying to surpass me.

Exactly. The first play through is the one that should be hard... The rest don't matter as much.

Bianca, and Hugh were more like friendly rivals imo. I would've liked them though to be more like Pearl/Barry at least...friendly but wanting to defeat us.

On topic: I think they add something which tells us how many steps our egg needs before they hatch as one gets tired of the vague "It's close to hatching".

I agree with you. Only somebody who's dead bored with the game would play it in Hard Mode after beating the Champion. They should make a Hard Mode that's available after the game. And yes, Gary was the best rival in the series. He's so overlevelled that it's actually fun to beat him in the games. In the newer games they just make your rivals the lowest level possible and leave it like that. But I doubt GF will do that.Their primary target is small kids.

Friendly rivals suck. Theres no such thing as a friendly rivalry, there always has to be some sort of jealous tension for it to make sense. In what way would I be jealous of Bianca? How can you have a rival that literally sucks? What reason is there to even have a rivalry with her? what exactly creates it? The entire concept of friendly rivalry is an oxymoron. Seta Kaiba and Vegeta would agree with me.

On topic: I always questioned if there should be some sort of item scope that lets you see a wild pokemon's nature and status before you catch it. There are other RPGs that have items like that as well but would it work for pokemon?

Friendly rivals doesn't really get with me either, it just seems like playmates instead of rivals.

On Topic: I think that item scope would work, I think I have used something like that before. And I believe there is a rom hack here that explains that there is an item someone implemented to tell if there is a Pokémon with perfect IV(s). So it could probably be put in a lot better and eventually tell us the exact number of EV/IV's.

I don't know, I kinda like having the old Exp Share mechanic but then again, I also like the XY one. So maybe either way works for me. :3

If Game Freak wanted the game to be challenging, I'm sure they would construct every gym leader to have a strategy including competitive items like the Choice series, specialized movesets, and more to actually make it difficult. However, this is not the case, and I think they're more inclined towards making the game enjoyable to a wide audience. Not everyone is a Pokemon master, and I'm sure for the rookies, this new EXP Share mechanic seemed like an absolute miracle. I'd like to see it return.

Maybe they'll have Rookie, Semi-Veteran, and Veteran levels. Those who aren't beginner or want a challenge could have something like you mentioned.
