Experiments [PG-13]

Eric had gone to a store to buy some stuff he realised he didn't have. He didn't take long, thanks to his superspeed. As he returned, he put some more chloroform on his parents' faces and went back to work.

As he worked on his goggles, he began to reconsider his goals.

I will give up on hunting down those traitors...It won't be worth it...I think I'll use this for different purposes...Now that the Experiments are no more, I'm considering becoming a vigilante or something like that...

He continued welding some LEDs onto his goggles.

I will only fight them if it's absolutely necessary...Fighting them at first sight will be just a waste of time...Time I could waste doing something else...

Drake nodded approvingly when she talked about beating the boy to a pulp. Apparantly, she didn't realize she probably won't ever see him again, becasue she would be going back to the Corp after this. However, he didn't want to spoil her mood.

"Being number one is overrated anyways. It's not about being number one. Who needs the attention anyways? Just be the best you can be. Just be determined. Just have confidence in yourself." Drake thought about relating the situation to their current one. Drake probably may not be the strongest Material or Experiment, or the fastest. But what he is, is the most determined and the most confident. He's confident he will kill them all.

Aura nodded her head. "Yeah I guess so." she said. Then she took on a thoughtful expression. "That kid visited me in the hospital, during one of the days my parents were too busy to come. He said he burned me there on purpose." she shook her head. "I didn't understand why at all. I mean, what could the purpose of burning someone's chest. Then he told me. He burned me in that spot because that's where my heart was." she stopped for a second. "I still didn't understand, so he cleared it up again. He said that it was to show that I was damaged. That no matter what, I'd never be able to love someone because as long as I was scarred, I would never leg anyone in." she stopped talking for a minute, closing her eyes.

A minute or two later, she spoke again, "For a long time he was right. I lost my best friend because I couldn't stand to have anyone near me, because I didn't want them to see what he did to me." she stopped, realizing she had started crying. "To this day, I've never let anyone see my scar."

Drake had remained silent throughout her story. What could he say? He felt bad for her and he couldn't cheer her up. He didn't know how. But he did know one thing. They were quite similar. He had never let anyone in either. Well, very few people tried. Quite frankly, he was too terrifiying to approach. He liked it that way. However, those few that tried found it to be a wrong, wrong move.

He noticed her begin to cry again. "Hey come on now, enough of that. There's no reason for you to cry about that anymore. Just forget it. Let's just drop the topic. For get that lunatic."

"It probably is a good idea to drop it." she said, smiling, "But, it kind of felt good to talk about it."

She stopped talking, just watching him, her smile still on her face. She was actually kind of happy, and her leg was beginning to feel better. She rubbed her scar lightly, using her free hand to wipe the tears out of her eyes.

"Thank you for listening to me." she said softly, closing her eyes.

"Not at all." He replied. They were getting close to the inn, Drake needed to be sure everything was in place. He looked around again. In this town, the only Experiments he encountered were Luphen and Eric. There was more than that, but he hadn't seen them yet. He had to keep his eyes open for others.

They were almost at the inn.

Aura closed her eyes, listening to her surroundings again. She could hear the group clearly now. She opened her eyes.

"We're almost there." she said to herself. "Okay, I think I can walk from here on out." she said, this time louder.

Jeremy opened his eyes, staring at the ceiling to the room. The three of them had stopped at an inn for the night, needing a rest. He looked around the room and saw Jack sound asleep in his bed. Caresse was also alseep. He stood up walking over to her.

"Caresse. Someone's coming." he whispered. He couldn't really tell if it was an Experiment or a Material, but he'd rather be safe than sorry. He didn't wake Jack, knowing how reckless he could be, and decided it'd be best to let him sleep.

Drake let her go slowly. "If you're sure..." He proceeded to walk with her, purposely going a little slower so she could keep up.

"Be careful. They might attack you when they first see you. Stay close. You should let me do the talking."

Drake looked around the inn. He was certain he was going to convince them, as long as Aura doesn't do anything to ruin it. He wasn't sure how she would react to them up front, especially if the flame Material was there.

Caresse yawned and opened her eyes looking up at Jeremy. "Who?" she asked getting up and stretching her back as she fixed her bed head. Looking around she saw Jack still asleep and figured it was for the best he stayed that way. "How long did we sleep?"

"Through a good portion of the morning." he said slowly. He was trying to analyze who was coming, and he knew he recegnized who was coming, but he couldn't quite place it. "I'm not sure if this is a Material or Experiment." he said lowly.

Drake asked around trying to figure out where they were at. He eventually got the info where they were staying. He headed up to their room, and knocked on the door.

He had to be SURE he said the truth, every time they asked something.

"I'm okay." Aura said reassuringly. As they approached the inn, she tensed up. "No need to worry about me. I'm keeping my mouth shut." she muttered.

She stretched her leg, it felt better, a little less sore, still hurting, but not so sore. She glanced over at Drake. She smiled, crossing her arms as they walked.

Jeremy heard a knock on the door, and walked over to answer it. He stopped at the door for a second, processing the soundwaves of the person outside. He sighed, no need to worry. He opened the door, seeing Drake, the Material who could control lightning, standing there.

"Hi. What do I owe this visit?" he asked.

Drake looked at Jeremy. He tensed a little and responded.

"We, need some healing. I remember you said that the other Material had some regenerative healing and was wondering if they worked on others. We're in pretty bad shape, as you can see."

Drake checked his words. No lies there. So far so good.

"Can we come in?"

For the first time, Jeremy noticed there were two of them. When he noticed who the second one was, he raised his brow, but let it go, stepping out of the doorway.

"By all means. Come on in." he said, giving them room to come in.

Drake nodded and walked in. He looked at Aura for a second. She seems to be holding up.

Drake walked in and saw the other Material. He addressed her. "You, err, woman Material. I actually don't know your name. I remember you said that you had some kind of healing power. Can you use it on us? We're in pretty bad shape..."

He waited for her reply. He was calm, and he knew as long as they stayed to what they said they'd be fine. Besides, if they had to fight their way out, he was confident he can kill them both, if need be.

Caresse looked at him. "The names Caresse, and I can heal you...but the experiment. Is she with you?" she asked looking at the girl not with threating eyes but with eyes full of curiosity as to why she was there with a material.

Drake sighed in relief. He wasn't sure about her powers before, so it ws nice to know she would be able to heal them.

"Good. Oh, the girl. Her name's...never mind. Yes she is an Experiment, but I made a deal with her. You see, she has some useful powers that would come in handy to kill the other Experiments. As long as she helps me get them, I promised not to kill her, and instead will bring her back alive to the Corp."

Drake looked at them both then at Aura, and added, "We were in a battle against some Experiments. Her leg is damaged, and we can't very well fight them again when we're not at top shape."

Caresse nodded and looked over at Jeremy. She knew he would say something if Drake had lied "He telling the truth?" she asked making sure not to wake Jack knowing how he would react upon seeing them.
