I don't get why the games automatically make you run away when you beat the wild Pokemon. If they're knocked out, shouldn't they be significantly easier to catch? Why would you run from a knocked out Mew? I'd catch that even if it was knocked out, not run away.

Also, how do some Pokemon live through certain attacks? If a Wailord used Body Slam on a Pikachu, that Pikachu should be dead, not fainted. Take Earthquake; if the many Pokemon who knew Earthquake used it, every city would be toppled and destroyed.

Why do the games do that?

Good point, but I mean this is a video game and really I"m sure not many people care about these details lol, no offense

Gameplay and Story Segregation. Also very applicable to the Universe Q&A thread in General.

As an alternate answer, there may be some sort of device in Pokeballs that prevents unconscious Pokemon from being caught, perhaps as a show of respect for wildlife. People in the games tend to treat Pokemon like the Japanese treated the supernatural wildlife from the native superstitions and folklore. Earthquake could be localized, and work differently than your average seismological activity-based quake. I can't give a satisfactory answer to the Wailord one, lol.

But if we follow the anime at all, than we SHOULD be able to. There are numerous times when in-show a trainer KO'd a pokemon, then proceeded to catch it.
So why not do so in the game?

    It's a video game.

Do you know what that means?

    IT'S NOT REAL.

It doesn't have to be like our world.

There are freaking monsters with magical powers of awesome.

Look, say you KO'd a Wild Pokemon, that you really, really wanted, and the Game just let you carry on and catch it - Wheres the fun in that?! That means you'd be able to catch any Wild Pokemon, whenever you wanted. It's much more fun with the suspense!

Pokemon just doesn't make any sense. ;)

Teh Blazer has a valid point.

Wailord would leave a bloody smear of Pikachu on its belly if it used body slam.

I'd just like to know how Ash has survived all those years of being shocked/fireblasted/put to sleep by Jigglypuffs involuntary nyquil dose/ without permanent brain damage...wait...

You cannot damage what does not exist.

That is because the video games aren't meant to copy every aspects of the show. It's very different, trust me. ;)

    I remember that!

It was a shout-out to cater to the american audiences...

OR a secret plot to instill a desire for Japanese schoolchildren to move to Minnesota.

    Either way its just stupid.

Or just a big shout-out to football fans.
    Minnesota vikings.
    I JUST made that connection.
    Sigh

So is Ash the new Farve since he will never retire from "Becoming the very best their ever was"?

speaking of becoming the very best, how long has the kid been at it?
Ten years, and he's still a mediocre trainer lucky enough to get a Pikachu with high IV's?
    Rediculous.

Thats what I'm saying! He needs to give up this quest for friendship and um actually start winning in the leagues.

Every single time he gets all the badges and gets ousted in the first/second round of the finals. Hes like the Philadelphia Eagles of the Pokemon world.
