I stopped buying Pokemon Adventures books not too long after Green appeared (or should I say "Blue", since I'm talking about the American version?) due to lack of cash, not like it'd mean much anyway seeing as Viz would stop translating it completely in a matter of time. To be honest, I nearly forgot about Pocket Monsters Special until I found a link to the official Japanese site, where I saw pics of Gold, Silver, Crys, Ruby, Sapphire, what teams they had, various pics of the Mask of Ice, as well as Lugia and Houou battling with the three legendary birds, stuff that led me to wonder what the hell has been going on from where I left off. Since Serebii's site allowed me to catch up with the interesting storyline (in a shorter amount of time, no offense), I'm very appreciative of it. However, to a long-time fan of the manga like yourself, someone who has been following the story very closely for a long time and actually has copies of, I can assume, several if not all volumes, the sudden surge of n00bs could get annoying. Basically, I can't complain, but I can see where you're coming from after finally hearing that explanation (I don't see why you were so hesitant to say so, especially when the reasoning sounds so good).
This certainly does complicate things between here and there, but Niko, have you ever considered talking to Coronis about this? If he were to agree with you that Joe is doing nothing but desecrating a medium of Pocket Monsters he loves so much, Coronis has all the power to quit working for him. Not like it'd be a good thing for guys like me, whom greatly benefit from that section, but I just thought you should know your options.
Anyway, I have a question. I know I haven't updated PMC in a long while (I suddenly took Summer courses, sorry), but, there's something I'd like to do before I get to the next chapter. For a while, I've considered trying my hand at translating comics and other original stories from a Japanese fan site,
Pokesho. Such a thing I figured I could hold off for a while as I worked on PMC, but this new comic they put up, Sirknight Experience, seemed pretty interesting and easy to follow, tempting me to use it to try one of my first Japanese-to-English translations. However, before I try it, I'd need to know a few things. First of all, I intend to just link the comic, while I state the page number and list off the translated dialogue in a script. Would such a thing be acceptable? I don't intend to explicitly advertise, just that, being a comic, it would rely on visuals, and it's not as though I can put the pages here without killing a ton of bandwidth. Also, would such a thread (BTW, I intend to use the same thread for other Pokesho translations, not just Sirknight Experience) belong in a fanfic forum, or somewhere else? Since my college doesn't offer anymore semesters in Japanese, I've been pursuing manga translation projects as new means of learning and remembering the language, so I really do hope such a thread would be allowed in at least one of the four forums that I post PMC at.
