Squirtle is the best starter. I remember training mine and Ash's Squirtle from the anime was hilarious!

Totodile is my favorite.
It is based on a crocodile, which is one of the most epic animals ever, not to mention havingt great attack and decent defense.

I'm not a big fan of water starters in the first place. :( So most of those are rather "eh" to me.
Though Piplup, I always thought that was a bit of a cutie. Counts enough towards a favorite, I suppose.

Couldn't stand piplup in the anime so they're last for me

Out of all of these choice i will have to say Squirtle since i have the most fond of memories with him Picking him as a user in both of the Gen 1 and Gen 3 games.

Totodile is not only my favorite water starter, but my overall favorite as well. I used to adore seeing Ash's Totodile in the anime being all excited and cheerful and when I got HeartGold I would always have mine following me. They're just too cute!
