"Fighting Fear With Fear!" Episode Discussion

Don't expect this topic to get any replies until the episode hits the tube.

...If anyone has the link, V/PM me with it. Please.

This is my favorite episode in the DP series so far...;-;

Replying with no tube lol.

Anyways I liked this episode a bit

Gligar was cute at first, but when it started acting stupid over and over itt got on my nerves a bit. But I understood what it went through after a while.

Gary brings out the worst in Ash, doesn't he? But at least Ash got over it quickly.

Long time, no see, Boss Fantasy. Though all the Boss needs to do is sleep in a windowless room.

Why in the hell did Umbreon's voice change. It really makes no sense, and it changed for the worse.

I liked TR's motto today, though wish they stuck with their lines.

Yanmega!!!!!

I wish Ash had the foresight to realize that in a Gligar cage it would be protected against Gligar, you know?

Creaky bridge, surprised it didn't break sooner.

Inventive way to use a tree.

heh, Wobuffet needs to jumnp for that attention.

I like how James says 'BAD TWERP' when Ash throws Gligar to its death.

Good thing it evolved.

TR thought they won.....until the baloon broke.

Not again with the poetry.

Overall, good episode. Now let's see what Gliscor can do;.

...will somebody post the facking episode already? I'm stuck watching DP106...

Spoiler:

;-;

GIVE US DP85 IN ENGLISH ALREADY! >.<;

I'm assuming you didn't watch it when it came on CN?

This episode would have been better if Gary had done more. D: He just kind of melted into the background with the other two losers.
Not cool.
TR thought they won.....until the baloon broke.
Wasn't it a flying mecha? Or was I not paying close enough attention?
I don't know, I was too busy cracking up when that mecha thing was all like "GLIS-COOOR". xDD

I'm Canadian; therefore, I don't get Cartoon Network where I'm from.

Apparently, all the "igloos" interfere with the signal ._.

This doesn't make sense, though. Pretty much every other episode from previous weeks would have been up...about 4 hours ago...>.>

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding Don. I'm pretty sure if you have torrent downloader you can download the torrent from somewhere.

And Melody, (for me anyways) for all intents and purposes I just call it a balloon lol.

I really want to watch this episode but I am still waiting for someone to put it up on internet because I live in Canada and we don't get CN:(

I watch from England every week, and have watched every single episode from the US since the start of Battle Frontier haha. I'm very proud of that...

I've noticed that it's been taking longer and longer for people to upload, perhaps it's because it's getting frther into the season so less people are watching? I see it on a torrent but...it takes so long...*sigh* About 18 mins at the moment. I would upload it, but for some reason the WMM on this computer saves all the videos with blue on the top half of the screen...huh? It could also be that YouTube is taking longer processing, which I've noticed.

Oh, it's the Gary one? I can't remember if this is also the episode about Gligar? Cool it evolves, but Glion has a horrible dub voice, if I remember right

It's no problem. To be honest, I put the igloo bit in for the ignorance of Americans who think our country is nothing but a giant slab of ice, and we all wear parkas and ice fish and other stuff that would drag this thread further off-topic. :p

Curse you, YouTubers...!

I feel that Ash was a tad too caustic and chiding to Gligar in tone in this episode, and that he (Ash) exhibited the kind of immaturity I thought he worked past or at least had a fix around long ago (unless I'm having a lapse in recollection). If Ash has toughened up (and I do think the refrain of too much sincerity and pandering can bring out the worst in some) I understand and I know training is not to be trifled with, but I always thought Ash was a tad more sensitive (or at least, had more depth of sensitivity) in that regard given that Gligar was too quick to quit but within the rulings of sincere depression and emotional range. I'd think Ash would have been more sympathetic. But I liked that we had a healing of that bond later on as Gligar evolved into Gliscor through the razor fang and Ash became a tad more understanding as they broke free of Jessie's, Jame's, and Meowth's cage.

And yet a BGM comment - I liked two tracks that were kept and still threaded in the episode and they're Japanese BGM. The rest was easily passable and forgettable in my ears. The two tracks in question that I liked were a "Silly Psyduck", which I haven't heard since way back when and thought worked well for the brief but jocund window into the moment in which it was used, and another one was nigher to height of the end, "Absolute Death", which I thought worked well as a bold fulcrum for the the tone of the scene and the change of that to progress from (which otherwise silence would act as for me as a dramatic but brazen backdrop). Otherwise, I don't have much to comment on the episode. For some reason I'm not miffed by Gary's frequent absence (but maybe that's because time's gait doesn't mean much in such an end, at least not for me) and I like that he still gives off maturity. Dawn's poetry commentary doesn't matter to me much at the very culmination of the episode either - it may not be pertinent but that just delves into minute and paltry details of any kind for me and I feel little specific details and statistics of any kind lead nowhere in a larger picture, ultimately.

But a good episode. Despite what I see to be Ash's "unnaturally" upfront tone (not in character for his dub persona, at least) I liked the developments between him and Gligar, how Gligar evolved into Gliscor, Gary's involvement, and a few other things.

- Aww, Gligar is cute
- Ash being hit by Aqua Jet XD Ash is mad :(
- Ash don't be mad :( Why is he getting so mad this episode?
- Why are Dawn, Brock and Gary ignoring dead Staravia?
- Delibird express!
- Ouch Ash! Your hat fell off!
- How many hanging wooden bridges are there in Pokemon?

Quotes:

Meowth: I just thought of a perfect way to utilise that head hugger

That's Alaska you're thinking about. They're the eskimos :P.

Anyway:
- Gligar fears Buizel and that makes me mad. Then he fears the Turtwig. This is getting sad.
- Shigeru appears just to do his research.
- Satoshi is getting back to his old ways. Him getting mad at Shigeru is always a little funny.
- Team Rocket has a canned food celebration for capturing Satoshi and Gligar.
- Staravia died for a little while it appears. But no need to worry, it comes back to life with Satoshi's bookbag.
- I really like the ending shot in the episode. It was really nice.
- Most importantly thoguh, Gligar evolves into Gliscor.

Rating: 8.3/10 Who says that Satoshi doesn't evolve his pokémon?

lol, alip. five minutes after you post, I find it myself.

best. episode. ever.

I cannot get over how much sexier the voice dub for Ash's Gliscor is over Paul's. Good God, I love it even more. (And now, I don't have to call it Glion all the time <3)

It might fuel the argument that Ash's Gliscor is female, just because, if I remember correctly, Paul's had a grittier, deeper voice. At the same time, I could really care less what gender it is, it is my favorite Pokemon of all and the best in the anime.

Anyone who sees my posts in this forum knows what a big fan I am of the thing.

Even as a Gligar, I absolutely loved it. It was the cutest thing ever, and while it was a bit childish, it was always in a humorous way. Now that it's evolved, I'm just warning you guys, expect a lot of "suprise buttsecks" shots in the future where Gliscor glomps Ash. (And Brock, in the episode three weeks from this one)

The one thing I have to ask is, why the hell didn't Gligar fly from the time Ash got on the bridge to the time he climbed back up it when it was broken? Not only would it make the bridge harder to collapse, but it would make Ash's time getting back up easier.

Still, Gligar is now a Gliscor. I'll have to dredge up all my <3 moments from the Japanese episode when they happen in America.

<3 Gliscor.

  • Ash is getting pretty nostalgic
  • Gligar is so weak
  • Is it me, or was that landing far away from the last one the exact same?
  • Ash is getting... jealous?
  • If those bars hust Gligar, they should shatter Ash's bone. Calcium Supplements?
  • Why is that bridge looking like it's screamin "My name is DejaVu!"
  • Why do I feel the Japanese hated Newton...
  • Remember kids, a mutant bat will slice through a super helium danger mechanism 50 times its size as long as it believes in itself.
  • No seriously, Ash is jealous.

Also, this was epic lolage.

Seeing this just made me think Gliscor fits Dawn even more... There's something... feminine about Ash's Gliscor, that makes me think it would do well in contests XD

Anyways, all I really liked was "BAD TWERP!"

Gliscor loves battling too much to be a fitting candidate for Dawn's team. It has the will to become stronger, and if anything, this episode shows that it needs to be on Ash's team, not Dawn's.

The first thing that popped in my head when I heard "Gliscor fits Dawn" is Gliscor in a red dress. The initial reaction was to give you a sharp glare and a ridiculously vulgar outburst that, when watered down, is basically "How dare you."

No.
Just...
No.

OH COOL! I really liked this show, it was one of the best so far, but to me nothing has beaten the wallace cup yet...lol...but it is about time gligar evolved in the US...it was too long, and I cannot wait to see more of it...
oh and WHEN DID YANMEGA LEARN SILVER WIND???
