How many pokemon did you use to beat the game? I'm currently making a full 6 pokemon team but I think I can do it with just the 3 of my pokemon but I did it because I think it's more fun that way.
I remember back in the GBA games I don't usually catch pokemon and go through the game with just 2-3 pokemon on my team (exluding HM slaves).

Honestly the game play is pretty easy in these games that you can get through it with only three Pokémon - Scrafty (pretty much a must - it can wipe out the entire elite four), a Psychic-type (Gothitelle, Musharna, Reuniclus) and maybe your starter or a good normal type (Audino, Stoutland or Bouffalant).

As long as you level up your Pokémon enough you're good enough anyway.

I used all six because why not. The Pokémon in the region were amazing and I wanted to use as many as I could. Second time around I used five specific Pokémon though and I still did fine!

Right now I have a full team of six Pokemon to get through the game with. I'll keep this full team all the way through because I need the variety each one of them provides.

Like Forever says, you can get through the game with three or four Pokemon, if you know how to handle them well. I did it once, where I beat the final boss with only three Pokemon. They weren't the best Pokemon (Samurott, Krookodile, and one other), but I still managed to beat the game.

Cool! Yeah I think using 6 pokemon is more fun.

I just looked at Scrafty's page in pokemondb. I never knew it has that good stats. Thanks for the info Forever. Now I'm thinking of adding one to my team.

So how do you make you teams? Do you follow some guidelines online on how to make a balanced team? Like no more than two pokemon should share the same weakness?

You sorta choose one Pokemon and then you choose something to compliment it. In-game doesn't matter anywhere near as much (team-wise) so feel free to choose what you like. If you really like Samurott, grab a grass-type to cover its weaknesses (Leavanny is good because it's available early on and has the additional Bug-type), add a strong Psychic-type (Psychic/Dark/Fighting is generally the best set of Pokemon to go with in most games) - Swoobat's great in-game early on and has Flying-type too, etc.

It really is up to the player though. As long as you don't have like two Water-type Pokemon, a Flying-type and no Ground-types you're fine. When in doubt, add in a Psychic-type and you're set. c:

But yeah, Scrafty is by far one of Unova's best Pokemon in-game. Once you use it in the game you're not going to want to use anything else. If you really want to be broken, breed it for Moxie and Dragon Dance. Maybe give it some Defensive EVs/HP EVs/Speed EVs and make sure it has an Adamant nature for more power. You're not going to lose... ever. It'll make you appreciate the challenge mode on B2W2!
