    Hello everyone,

I'm working on a full out hack of pokemon firered and I need to know how to change the world map. Just for the sake of absolute clarity when I say world map I'm referring to the map that the player can see with the town map and when they want to fly. That is essentially the only thing I need to do with the hack that I don't know how to do already.

I can fairly easily build a world map in paint using the same color palette that firered uses for its world map, but once I have this map how do I get into the game? I think I read that unLZ can do it but I found the layout very confusing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

oooooh, thank you. That looks like a promising tutorial. All the tutorials I saw were from the dark days of ROM hacking in 2007 telling me to alter hex addresses and were pretty confusing. I'll let you know if I have success with NTME.

Whew, it took me all night long but I finally got the map I wanted into the game! What an annoyingly long process.

Now that, I've inserted the map, I have a (hopefully) simple related question. How do I get the players head on the townmap to follow the route as they progress through the route? I am using A-map 1.92 to edit the world map and for route 1, for example, which in my map is composed of three squares. The best I can do is get the player's head to stay on the middle square regardless of where the player is inside the route.

Is it possible to get the little head indicator on the map to move without switching to a new area?

It is possible to do, but it will require a little bit of hex editing. This post should explain how to do it.
