If given a chance I would like to learn how to play violin rather than flute for I find it very interesting to play using that musical instrument.

Both are pretty good...I'm in a school orchestra, and play a couple of instruments, and they can sound good.

I would say one thing though - you'll sound horrendous initially on violin, and people will hate you, whereas flute won't sound as bad - they're both slightly awkward instruments in their own ways. As a woodwind player, I'd overall recommend Flute, as it's closer to what I do xD But I play Guitar too, so I'm a Strings-ist too.

I guess I'm just being irritating here, so if you want my vote, try both for about six months. Practise a lot (equally between them though), and if one isn't working out for you, drop it. I did that, and I haven't regretted quitting Trumpet.

I wouldsay go with the flute.

I for one am a flutist and has been for 3 years now. Soin a way this is a biased answer for me. But if you want an opinion from someone who plays it well here it is.

I like the flute because of it's sound, it can be low for more tradgic songs, and high pitched for lively songs. The flute, is also easy to do improvasions like Tongue Rolling (Flurr?), and Beat Boxing. You can also take off the headjoint and make it like a brass instrument, so that's a cool feature.

I play my flute every day.
