If you're a host, stay here, if you're not a host, gtfo >__> jk. We are engineers as a human race, if you are not a host for this event but have a good idea please don't hesitate to post it.

Anyways, I want good discussion on what to plan for the trivia event.

A few base ideas from my part

    • Each day we should have a different individual or set of host/s
    • A different general topic each night
    • I'd want to say to do this old style as in just have the host post a question and let answers stream. Inactive hosts should help keep count
    • Winner/Finalists get an emblem. However, I'll also try to get $5 Supporter Credit for the winner. I do not gurantee that yet.

This event doesn't have a ridiculous amount of hosts for nothing >__> post damn it!

    ^$5 Supporter Credit
    Sounds pretty awesome

Just letting you guys know how we did this last year so you could take ideas.

We had 4 different Topics. Last year it was Pokemon, Anime/Manga, General I can't remember the other one.
I remember the hardest thing from last year was that the questions were easy enough to be found on Bulbapedia/Serebii. It would be cool this year if we could have a Topic on PokeCommunity (What you guys think?)

Any host that was on would throw in questions and the first 3 People would get placings.

    1st Answer: 100 Points
    2nd Answer: 50 Points
    3rd Answer: 20/25 Points

We gave Emblems for Overall 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and Participants.

Also anyone can enter whenever. And we start when we have enough people.

I don't remember many contestants last year though I do remember Jake♫ came 2nd.

My emblems last year were pretty dull. I didn't get in graphics as much back then

I'll tell you when else I can remember when I do remember

I don't like a Pokecommunity theme. I'm afraid this event will receive criticism like Last year's crossword puzzle, which was that.

Actually, I have a better idea. We should probably use an IRC channel for Real Time Questions and Answers. Of course, only for set times. It shouldn't be too hard to maintain thanks to our host numbers. I'll talk to Hiroshi Sotomura about that.

I still prefer posting, easier to go back and also cause majority of the time I'm @ PC I'm at school, and my school disabled the plugin that lets me on any IRC chat. I Just prefer posting cause you never know when the next question will come out. You have competitors just waiting for the next question to come out. It makes it a bit harder to answer the question than just straight giving it out. And also it gives us the full list of those who competed. Though we should wait on what the others say too.

You should probably install mIRC into a flash drive and see if it works from there. But I recommend seeing with an administrator about the policy and for permission. Besides, if you want you can only op during the weekend.

Already created the channel. #tpc_gt7_TriviaChan on irc.systemnet.info. It's password protected right now: "gttrivia" I dunno if that's gonna be the channel for the contest.

I'm actually more in favor of the IRC idea, to be perfectly honest. I followed the trivia event last year, and it went sooo fast. I think a constantly scrolling IRC channel would be easier to manage, but then again, perhaps I'm just used to messenger clients.

...and I probably shouldn't even comment on the Crossword thing, considering I actually won that event last year - despite its controversy. >> However, a PC topic should be okay if we keep the comments to things MOST PC members would know, and not members that happen to reside within a certain clique. I think we could pull it off.

I'm liking the donation idea though.

I'm going to prefer to keep it a surprise if I manage to donate again this month.

Nah I get banned from school if I install/download anything. But I'll see if I can get home as much as I can. Also any alternatives for topics?

I don't mean install to your school computer, but to your own personal flash drive from home. You can run the application on a school computer, given that your computer use policy authorizes limited personal use like the policy at my school.

Also, the reason I wish to use mIRC is to make our lives easier. I can set up a few scripts to keep track of contestants and points, but that means I will require co-operation from all hosts to help debug and improve. It'd be great if any of you are experienced in mIRC scripting. I'm experienced in programming, but this is one scripting language that'll take me a while to master, but I think can manage anyways.

    ^^Correct XD

I know it's not my event (So sorry for barging in or something xD), I would honestly say from experience in participating that doing this via an IRC channel would be twenty times easier and more effective. I mean with posting it was kind of...just a giant cluster of madness. I mean I get that's it's nice that you never know when the post is coming, but it's the same thing with an IRC channel, plus it seems to be more organized. But that's just my two cents =3

^Nah your not really barging in, it's good to know from a competitors point of perspective so IRC chat seems to be a good idea

OK, before I start coding, I wish to know if all that is going to be in vain or not.

We agree on holding this in an mIRC channel then. There are two ways we can keep score. I can code scripts to do it all for up to 64 members automatically, but it's going to take time and debugging, and I can't gurantee I'll be done correctly in time.

We can also do this manually. This means typing and writing down fast, but is a lot less risky and no scripting (basically only from my part!) is necessary. We password protect the channel and double check results. Then post on the event thread.

I personally will prefer the manual way. I can't get the hang of the scripting language fast enough and apparently I'm the only one with any knowledge of this. What do you all think?

I think we could manage to pull this off manually. If we're in an IRC channel, we can pretty much control the speed at which it goes. I mean, sure, they could spam in between the trivia questions, but I imagine most of them will want to be at-the-ready to type up a response the moment our question hit the screen.

I saw the chaotic thread last year, but I really think we'll be able to manage it this year. :3

Plus, we take the risk of the automatic system backfiring when we need it most if we choose to use it. You could be the best programmer in the world, but it would only take one backfire for every participant to want a recount of all the points and such anyway.

I agree with Hiidoran, better not take the risk and just count it manually. If we are able to count manually without the mIRC than we can do it with the mIRC and do it manually. My guess it will be faster with the questions but at least we won't have all the members continuously pressing F5 or CTRL + R like last year.

Ok, I'll set up basic scripts to assist, but score-count will be managed manually.

Now I can assist with working on the questions in peace XD.

First we should agree on the topics. I'm thinking Pokemon General, Pokemon Riddles, Mathematics, and General Sciences. XP
