So I was going through the stats of my team on FR, and Rhyhorn happened to come just after Charizard, and their cries were exactly the same! Is it meant to be this way? And if so, are there other Pokemon with the same cries?

Pidgeot and Chansey have extremely similar cries. It's a little scary at times.
    ._."

Well, you have to think that Gen I Pokemon were created when there was little technology for cries and such available. It's not surprising that some were repeated.

There are three sets of Pokemon in Generation I with the same cries that share no relation through evolution:
    1. Charizard and Rhyhorn
    2. Poliwag and Ditto
    3. Goldeen and Caterpie

Also note that there are only 37 completely different cries in the game. Some cries that are shared between Pokemon are pitched up or lowered, quicken or slow, or disable a sound channel. For example, Charmeleon and Charmander technically have the same cry, but an instruction in the game tells Charmeleon's cry to be pitched lower than Charmander's.

Really? I had never noticed that in Firered. But I am sure it is very weird. You said Pidgeot and Chaney have the same cries? o.O Awkward.

I've noticed that Rhyhorn and Charizard have identical cries, but I never knew about Pidgeot/Chansey and Goldeen/Ditto though. XD

I always found it funny that Slowbro's cry is the same as Growlithe's, only lower, and Growlithe's is lower than Machoke's, but really the same.

I noticed that ditto and caterpie have similar cries. :]

Never knew they were the same. >>

Wow. I guess you do learn something new everyday.

I always noticed that Charizard and Rhydon have the same cry, but I thought that it was because of their monster-like appearance. XD

Charizard and Rhyhorn, well, I could expect that. But Goldeen and Caterpie? I rarely play firered much anymore because I am addicted to Yellow, but I have been playing it for quite some time; I checked and their cries do sound very, very similar! Maybe a tad different, but not by much (if at all.)...

I've knew about Rhyhorn and Charizard first but as for Ditto and Poliwag and Goldeen and Caterpie, I've never really noticed after all of these years of playing Pokemon
