Friday the 13th: The Game

So as of this post, Friday the 13th unlocks in about 19 hours! It'll be an open world survival horror game, taking place in none other than Camp Crystal Lake. I believe at the moment it is multiplayer only - you can play as either one of the unlucky saps trying to survive and escape (7 max in a match), or play as Jason Voorhees himself and try to murder everyone before the time is up. A single-player mode will be added later, but I don't know too much about how that works yet.

This is not the first Friday the 13th video game made - a NES adaptation was released in 1989, but it was widely considered pretty terrible, so hopefully this one doesn't tank. Did anyone here play this? Did you think it was as bad as everyone says it was?

Anyway, thoughts on this new adaptation? Are you a fan of the franchise, and will you be picking this game up? Would you want to play as prey or hunter? I know most people would probably want to play Jason, but playing as a counsellor seems kind of fun too - apparently each character has different skills and weaknesses and you can pick based on your preferred playstyle.

Feels like kind of a cop-out that they didn't wait until... well, Friday the 13th (it's even in October this year!), but eh.

Personally I'm not that interested, but I can see why people would want to play it.

I've watched various let's plays of the alpha/beta versions of this game. The style of gameplay seems to be the one that makes the most sense for the nature of the Friday the 13th franchise. Also, weren't we suppose to get another reboot?

Eh... It looks incredibly unpolished and doesn't seem to have been very well-received by the community. I have to admit that the game does have promise but it doesn't look like it's put any of that to use.

I haven't played the game but... I feel like my money could be put to better use. Like those $40 could go towards a new Graphics card. Sounds like a better investment to me.

I agree - I really liked the idea behind it and all, but watched a few people play it and it does look a bit clunky and rough around the edges. Not releasing this on Friday the 13th is definitely a missed opportunity, haha. And maybe if they had spent a few more months developing it it would have been a bit better.
