I've watched Pokemon for like...ever. It's basically a part of me I can't let go!
When I began watchin the show, the ideas were classic. Everything was classic. The movies were classic. Everybody had a familiar trait, both amusing, deep, and interesting. Team Rocket sometimes had episodes all to themselves, and even though they were dumb, there was something about them that set them apart from everyone else.
It was goofy, it made ya think. It inspired you, and it saddened you.
    Where did it go?

Ever since Ash left Johto and entered Hoenn, everything has changed. The humor, the personalities, everything! Team Rocket is bland, stupid, and boring. Max and May are shallow and stereotypical. The only thing that keeps me watching is Ash and Brock, who have sorta stayed the same. I am assured that there are new writers, and that they're far more into the video game than the anime.
    I want the feeling back!
I'm sure all longterm fans remember it. That feeling you'd get running home from elementary school to make sure you saw what Ash, Misty, Brock, Jessie, and James would do this episode. Now every Saturday morning I sleepily watch what happens next in Ash's adventure, and all I have to do is watch the first 10 or so minutes of it, and I'll know exactly what happens in the end.
Example: Ash and co. enters So-and-So town. They meet a harmed Azural on the way, and a pretty girl who owns it.
What'll happen: Team Rocket will believe that the Azumarril will make their boss love them so they try to steal it and fail and Azural is safe and they continue on.
See what I mean? A good example of this is the Spinda episode.

My next remark makes me the angry: The fact Ash trudges through Hoenn SO FAST.
    Either that or the writers.

Is it that hard for Ash to sit down and have an episode that doesn't have anything to do with the main plot? Or have a Flashback Episode??? What's up? Has Pokemon changed companies so they don't have the rights to show footage of old scenes? But of course, the season is so packed with introducing new pokemon and gym battles/contests that they have no chance to have a leisure episode that doesn't show any totally new pokemon or huge battles!
Remember the Ghost of Maiden's Peak? Or the pre-indago plateau mini-series? How about all of the Orange Island episodes? Whatever happened to those good old episodes that showed personalities, traits, humor, and all of that?

I have one more final bash to make: The Quality of the movies...

    I have a feeling I shouldn't even start...oh well here goes:
What the heck is up with the Pokemon Movies? The first 3 Pokemon Movies were totally awesome....beyond awesome. Mewtwo, Lugia, and Entei. Each movie had an amazing quality to it! Everything flowed so perfectly, it was not only scary but exciting. It was action packed and slowed the humor down just enough to make it a little more mature and less kiddish...then came the next.
Pokemon 4Ever, Pokemon Heroes, Jirachi Wish Maker, and Destiny Dexoys.
They make me sad....honestly. Pokemon 4Ever is what you could say the last of the cool movies...though it barely got that. But Heroes...(shakes head)....it was so bland, boring. The only thing I enjoyed was the Water-Race at the beginning. After that...I dunno...Brock and Misty had none to no role at ALL. Ash went off on his own trips and had them stay behind. And the 2 TR Girls...not only are they unoriginal but they're predicatable! The plot is far to unoriginal in itself. It seemed that they tried TO hard to use CGI than to work on something more heartworming or exciting. I yawned several times...
Then came "J: WM" And...well...I guess it's not the worst movie in the world. But it just proves May's blandness (I think I disliked her more after seeing this movie) but I do like Max more. And yet, this movie, being a part of the "New Pokemon Generation" is overly childish. Overly. And I know, it's a kids movie, but I'm not so sure 3 year olds will be that into this. I guess the only thing that got me excited was watching Flygon (my favorite dragon pokemon) battle. But Groudon...he looked robotic in my opinion. He just didn't look... real... .
What I can say about these 3 movies....they're on such a small scale. A very small scale compared to Mewtwo's quest for the freedom of Pokemon and the Zap Artic Molt quest for rampaging descruction. The only thing Spell of the Unown had that kept it at a large scale was the feelings you got from the depth of the guest-star characters, making everything seem so...personal.

    I can't judge P: DD because I haven't seen the whole thing.

There. Flame me all you want, I just want to know if I'm the only one who think that the Pokemon Feeling is gone.

well i can see what you mean about the show, the charcters personalities have been dumbed down and tem rocket is becoming very annoying but i do like how they are staying to the main plot it whould be good though to see a few more random type episodes now as for the movies i agree that the grand scale of the movies has lessened but my favorite movie whould have to be heroes, bujt they could make it less kiddy in a way though for example DEstiny Deoxys the dance thing with the poppy music in the middle of the movie....................

so they need to bring back a more epic scale to the movies and use cgi more responsibly such as in Destiny Deoxys some scenes where like rayquaza was computer animated grrrr they could have took a little time and actually animated those scenes

but you got some good points and props for expressing them

Thanks gil! :D I had to let out a little steam there

hey no prob i understand, ive never been that completely frustrated with pokemon, you know being a fan for only a year i started pokemon with Heroes and Ruby/Sapphire so im kinda use to the "new" way of pokemon but somethings can be umproved well here to hoping the next pokemon series and the Mew movie bump it up to how it use to be

I have to agree. The show has changed alot..Although I do like the new series..It really liked the old one's more. It'd be better if they just got a whole new series with all new people. =D

4kids told Nintendo to ease out Japanese jokes...

I can see where you are coming from but:

EVERYTHING is original and classic when it first comes out, it is boudn to bore you eventually. I would have more than loved if they stuck to it like the old days, but their popularity would fall if it stayed too much the same.

And I think like all the pokemon movies are well made.

I think since 4Kids is so much into botching up Japanese scripts they ought to just get the people that wrote the english dub of SPC to do the show (they are the ones that look at a Japanese script, throw it out the window and ad-lib the entire show).

At least then there would always be some original things in it. They could keep the english names to the games, but there would be lots of original things in it. It would be interesting to see that done with Pokemon. Actually, I think it would be downright hilarious; it would make fun of itself.

    Thanks for the info jynx.
    I guess you're right Jason :D.
Yeah, if only those SPC would lay their hands off the awesome work...

Seriously, if they dubbed the show like they dubbed SPC, there would be lots of funny lines. Also, the material would never get old.

I can just see what they'd do with Team Rocket.

Narrator: "You fell into yet another one of Team Rocket's holes..."

Ash: "We didn't know it was there!"

Narrator: "And you never even noticed that they do this in virtually EVERY EPISODE?!"

I have to agree with you on your original topic, Water Pokemon Master. I really feel like the show is getting worse as each new season starts. I could watch the first season over and over, but I've hardly watched any of the filler episodes of the later seasons over again. I have been a huge Pokemon fan since it came out, and I still watch it and record it on VHS religiously every Saturday morning. It just saddens me to see how unoriginal the storylines have become. When AG first came out, I was so excited to see something new and innovative. But that quickly became old as the episodes became more of the same old thing. I really think the writers need to get back on track with the original storyline of Pokemon. I don't really want to see anymore episodes where a Pokemon and it's nobody trainer can do something semi-important. What does that have to do with Ash becoming a Pokemon Master?..

I really wish 4Kids would put some energy into their dubbing. The translations aren't funny anymore, and it seems like everyone is bored all the time. I also HATE what Eric Stuart has done with James' voice recently. It's horrible.

I miss the old days where Ash kicked *** in the Pokemon movies, and the episodes every Saturday were interesting, well-dubbed, and fresh. I'm not bashing Pokemon. I LOVE Pokemon, and I'll tell that to anybody no matter if they'd want to kick my *** afterwards. I almost think they need to age the characters a little bit, change their clothes again, and focus on Ash's training and becoming who he dreams to be. Just my opinion. Thanks for the great topic, Water Pokemon Master.

What frightens me is the Giovanni fantasies Meowth has nearly every episode. And that it takes circa five months for Ash to go from one Gym to another, with nothing but boring filler in between (only once in a while is there a golden episode, like the one where Ash turned into a Pikachu).

Anyway, I thought that Pokemon Heroes was the most mature movie, as it dealed with the death of Latios. It was so sad I nearly shed a tear. Also, Ash had a relationship with Latias -_- Not since Chikorita's crush had he become so intimate with a Pokemon.

It's not all 4Kids' fault. It's the writers of the Japanese versions' fault, too. They've been introducing uninteresting plots to the series. Nearly every episode has the same plot points with only different Pokemon and trainers rearing their heads.

Furthermore, Ash has pulled out his Pok?dex to check on Pok?mon he had seen just last season... even ones he's actually owned before!

Not to say that I'll stop watching Pokemon. Lords no. But they really need to add some variety.

I totally, TOTALLy agree with all of what you guys are saying.
Honestly, I thought I would be flamed until Hell froze over...:D
Maybe there should be a petition or somethin'...those things sure get the jobs done.
EDIT: You know what? I'm gunna start a "Original Pokemon" Club.

Okay. First, what's SPC for this matter? (because SPC stand for lots of things and I don't want to make a fool of myself.)

    <_<
    >_>

Second, sadly I have to say this that I do agree that the storyline has been uninteresting lately. Like some of you said I'll still watch the show but the writer in Japan gotta shape up quickly so at least 4Kids doesn't have to dumb it down more.

    Hey Water Pokemon Master,

I agree with you on some aspects and on other, I don't. Regarding the movies, yes, I totally 100% agree with you that the quality of the movies has gone downhill since Pokemon 3. I remember being excited when Pokemon 4Ever was going to be released in the theaters, but it wasn't released in my area, so I waited for the DVD. After watching the DVD, I wasn't moved as much as I had been with the first three movies. That's why I'm hoping this new one with Mew in it will have old references to the first movie.

As far as the episodes go, I can see where you're coming from, but I'm still enjoying them. As someone mentioned, the episodes are coming directly (or pretty close) from Japanese storylines with American adaptations, so half or most of the blame for the quality of episodes is at them. As far as the dubbing goes, I think it's fine. There are too many crybabies here that think 4Kids is doing a bad job, but as far as other dubbed cartoons goes, Pokemon has the best I've seen (and Yu-Gi-Oh!).

And no problem on venting your feelings, dude. That's what forums are for. And if people have a problem with your opinion, the heck with them. You have my respect.

Yer awesome Arig, and thanks for bringing the variety to the table :D <gives rep>

After reading this I am glad to say I am sooo glad I'm not the only one that thinks that way. Yes, after the third movie things just weren't that exciting any longer, the movies seemed to have gotten shorter and somewhat pointless. The only one I found that was just as good as the first three was Latios and Latias. As for the anime itself yes, I too see what you mean. The only reason for my still watching it is because of Ash, if he'd been gone I wouldn't even bother turning the TV on. Yes, May and Max, sorry May and Max fans, are just unbearable! May makes my 2 year old dog seem like a genius! and Max? Don't get me started <_<. I've been watching Pok?mon ecer since the start of the anime and I can't help but feel bored when I watch it now. And is it just me or have they gone I donnu...softer? And Ash is Gym crazy, boy that hurt :\ , I see what you mean by speeding the whole thing up. I am just as frustrated as you but I still watch it, like I said before, only 'cause Ash is in it, after all he's my favorite ^_^

They are doing that because 4kids told them to!
