Ok, just have one question, about the trading for evolution.

If its a pokemon that requires an item + trade for evolution, are we required to play to where we get that item on our monotype, or can we use the item from another game?

I think the items should be acquired in the played game, not in another one. Just like you can't trade to give let's say a Growlithe a Fire Stone and trade the Arcanine back...

Ah well, lemme think what type to do then, was gonna do steel, but would take forever to get a decent pokemon (e.g not foretress).

It would be OK to use an Onix until you get to Ecruteak and then evolve it, somewhere there are wild Magnemites that have a 5% chance to hold a Metal Coat.

666 posts xD

Alright, put me down for Steel then.

Progress so far:
Made it to that cave where you get Onix
Fainted too many Onix's by mistake
Decided I wanted a female Onix
15 Onix's later and I accidently fainted all females
Found a nice female, but ran out of balls, so restocked :P
Glad I restocked because: Onix appeared: Omg it's shiny. - Caught Shiny Onix.
Taught Onix Mud-Slap (to beat Rivals Gastly)
Defeated Bugsy, no contest
Moved on to Goldenrod, beat gym, moved on again.
Went west of Ecruteak searching for Magnemites. (Hoping to find 2 metal coats for a Scizor and a Steelix).

Will catch a Scyther as soon as possible.

Current Team:
Onix, lv29 (Shiny)
Rage
Screech
Mud-Slap
Rock Throw

Already the second shiny in this thread that fits its owner's type, incredible.
I have to continue, maybe I will also find a shiny Houndour or Sneasel.
Well, it's unlikely, but I have to continue regardless.

As I promised, here's finally my newest update:
I had saved at Mahagony, but didn't defeat team rocket there yet, so this was the first thing for me to do. As always, it took quite long, but was easy. And once again, I realized my bag was full when I was halfway through it. After TR was finally defeated, it was time to beat Pryce, the whole gym caused no trouble at all for Umbreon. Did Ice Path stuff and headed back to goldenrod, to beat Team Rocket once again. When they were finally defeated, I used Fly to get back to Blackthorn and defeated Clair with ease thanks to Murkrow's Icy Wind.

Team:
[PokeCommunity.com] G/S/C Monotype Challenge

Krow / Murkrow m Lv.51 @ Nevermeltice
- Fly
- Return
- Faint Attack
- Icy Wind
Icy Wind gives nice coverage, but sadly I lost the ability to hit steels, Magnetons now cause some serious trouble.
[PokeCommunity.com] G/S/C Monotype Challenge

Overhyped / Umbreon m Lv.50 @ Amulet Coin
- Quick Attack
- Bite
- Sand Attack
- Return
I really need to work on this moveset, it's horrible.

Finally caught a Magnemite with a Steel Coat...now have to get another one for a Scizor. Defeated next few gyms, and recorded my battle with Jasmine, purely because I used 2 lv30 Magnemites and a lv35 Steelix, same as her team. Her magnemites were better but Steelix fixed that problem.

Shouldnt take too long to finish this one now, any suggestions for another one to do? (Not bug, cos I already did this part during the ultimate monotype challenge)

With Dragon I take it I'd be able to transfer a Dratini over, right?

Update on Steel Progress:

1/2 there, defeated Lance just now.

Used the same tactic against Elite Four that I did in my Bug Challenge (e.g overpower Scizor and run right through them with Swords Dance/Agility and Slash).

Planning to finish tomorrow, probably gonna keep soloing through with Scizor now...the only real challenges left are Red's Charizard and Blaine's gym.

I know having to do stuff again because of not having saved is annoying, but... do you really want to give already up? Not try again later, maybe with another type?

I'll do a Houndoom solo challenge on Gold and Trade over a Level 5 newly hatched Houndour.

Update, started out, picked Totodile because if I remember, he learns the most HM's (he will be the HM Slave), beat rival, named him Silver, got Houndour at level 5, took him to Sprout Tower to smash everything, and easily beat Falkner

Team:
[PokeCommunity.com] G/S/C Monotype Challenge Devildog Lvl 12
Leer
Ember
Roar

I usually never plan my moves and go on the fly, but with Houndour I will have to since he has so much weaknesses. So my planned final moveset for when he becomes a Houndoom is looking to be

Crunch
Flamethrower
Iron Tail
and probably Headbutt, but Return seems better in the long run

Does this sound good for a solo? And Crunch was Special Attack in Generation II right, it's pretty important since Houndour/Houndooms Special Attack is more than its regular Attack.

Double Update, went through Union Cave, it was pretty hard since all the pokemon went against my type except for Zubat, beat the Rockets, easily beat Bugly, demolished my rival Silver, went through Ilex Forest, beat all the trainers so Devildog can get some experience, Devildog evolved to Houndoom, easily annihilated Whitney to a big surprize, I took out her Clafary in one shot with a Critical Hit, then I only had to use Bite 2 times to take out her annoying Milktank

Team:
[PokeCommunity.com] G/S/C Monotype Challenge Devildog Lvl 24
Leer (Will be replaced once I get Iron Tail)
Ember
Headbutt (Will get replaced with Return on Sunday when the lady comes)
Bite

Triple update, got to Ekruteak City, beat my rival easily again, unlocked the dogs, beat Morty easily because I had Bite, got to Olivine, did lighthouse stuff, beat Jasmine first because she is weak against Ember I wasn't hit once, caught a Psyduck to be HM Slave #2, went to Cianwood crazy scared, battled Chuck, against him he didn't hit me either since he was flinching on Headbutt. So 6 Gym Leaders down, 2 more Johto ones to go.

Team:
[PokeCommunity.com] G/S/C Monotype Challenge Devildog Lvl 37
Faint Attack
Ember
Headbutt
Iron Tail

Would you prefer this to count as a Fire or a Dark type run?

ThwackX would like to take up the challenge. I will use ROCK type pokemon, and im playing pokemon Gold.
ok added

ok, i´ll try it again but this time grass will be my element, I just don´t find sandslash with ground...

I´ll update later
You must have had some real bad luck, usually Sandshrew very common in Union Cave, except for Silver version, where it can be bought in the Goldenrod Game Corner.
Ah whatever, changed you to grass.
