Hey, JaDe here! And welcome to Part 9 of Genwunner No More!
Part 8 ended with me finding the location of the Sudowoodo. I just healed my party back in Goldenrod City and I'm heading back out to Route 35, through the National Park, and then back to Sudo. Since I didn't catch anything on Route 35 in hopes of catching Sudo, I'll explore the grass a bit. I first run into a Growlithe, pretty awesome since I don't have a Fire type yet. 1 Tackle takes him down to red, so it's time to throw a Pokéball. Got it on the first try, nice! Welcome to the team FirePup.
I can see another trainer I haven't faced yet, but I'm not sure if I want to withdraw FirePup. Since I already have 2 Flying types, I decide I'll box Annoying to bring out FirePup. Seeing Edward SH makes me question if I want to keep Cottonball or not. I'll leave them alone for now, maybe later Edward can get some action. Interestingly enough, FirePup is holding a Burnt Berry, and has a pretty good move set.
I got back to the Trainer in the grass to train FirePup, and it sounds like the Trainer is a Bug collector; hope they're fire resistant. He only has 1 Pokémon, a Venonat. It's 2 levels ahead of FirePup, but I'm not worried with the type matchup. 2 super-effective Embers brings it down to red, and a Bite finishes it off.
Continuing down the outer path, I see another Trainer, and noticed an item after I get around this corner. I'll face them first then go collect the item. He asks me about my balls... That's kinda personal... Turns out he's a bird keeper and starts off with Pidgey. Bite was a crit hit, and it goes down. Up next is a Pidgeotto, but my Pup's not scared. After 2 Gusts though he's down to red so I send out Rhodey to clean up. I head up to the item and it's TM04, which is Rollout, not something I'll use. I run into a fence so I heal up and head through the National Park.
Walking back through the park I realize there are several Trainers in here too, it must have been the contest that kept them from battling me last time. The first lady only has a Snubbull. With a combination of Bites and Embers, FirePup defeats the saggy-looking pup, and levels up! The next Trainer I run into has 2 Pokémon and leads off with an Oddish; anyone want roasted raddish for dinner? 2 Embers and it is done. Her second Pokémon is a Voltorb. It takes 4 Bites, but the living Pokéball is defeated.
I heal FirePup again and head back in to face more Trainers. The next girl I see starts off with an Oddish as well, it's veggie cooking time. After beating it, FirePup levels up again! Her final pokemon is a Cubone, and I personally really enjoy the theory about Cubone being a baby Kangaskhan. I get it burnt, but its Bone Club is super effective, so I'll have Kansas finish it off with a Watergun. I use a Berry on FirePup and keep on going. The next guy only has a Raichu. Its first attack paralyzes FirePup, hopefully that won't impede him too much (get it, impede). Since Bite doesn't do much damage, I will switch out Rocky. 2 Rock Throws and it is over.
I don't see any other Trainers, but I do notice a gap in the fence here. Exploring to either side, I find a Parlyz Heal and TM28 which is Dig. I'll use the Parlyz Heal now and another Berry so that I don't have to go back to the PokéCenter.
Back at the Trainers near Sudowoodo, I decide to take on the left guy first. He only has 1 Pokémon and it's a Tangela. This Fire type catch is really coming in handy lately. 2 Embers and the pile of vines is gone. FirePup levels up yet again, now level 17! When I go to talk to the female Trainer, it turns out she's actually from the Flower Shop in Goldenrod City. She talks about borrowing her sister's water bottle and runs off. I guess I have to head back there... There's a shortcut between Route 35 and 36 so I don't have to go through the Park every time, just have to use cut.
When I get to the Shop, Floria's sister says it's too dangerous and that if she beat Whitney it would be safer. Well, it just so happens that I've already beaten Whitney, so step aside.
Back on Route 36, I water the Sudowoodo. It doesn't like it and attacks! I don't want to burn it so I start off with Bite. It flinches, but barely does any damage, so I switch to Cottonball. Maybe it can put it to sleep for easier catching. Cottonball gets it down to red health, but Sudowoodo woke up one too many times and landed a crit hit, killing Cottonball. Your sacrifice will not be in vain! I bring out Rocky in case he needs to take a hit from him before Sudo catches. I start off with a Great Ball, and realize I only have a total of 4 balls to try... I'll need to stock up. She avoids the first Great Ball and I'm getting nervous. I try the last Great Ball and it catches! Welcome to the team Twiggy.
I'm sad to have lost Cottonball, but I must continue on. There is a path leading northwest and a path leading northeast, but I'm not sure which one to take.
And with that, I'm going to end Part 9 here. Thank you so much for reading! Part 10 will start off with me heading down one of these paths. If you want me to head in a certain direction first, tell me down in the comments. Thanks again and I'll see you soon.
