Game development: what's happening?

I think part of the problem here is that famous release of a starter kit that made everyone think they could do it, when in fact they can't. A lot of people are presented the tools to start making it, yet nobody seems to have the tools to finish it. Most people also fail to consider the need to plan a decent game just launch straight into it.

Another problem is the lack of go-forward from several of the larger, more popular projects that have been setting the benchmark of quality in this scene. The better games seem to be disappearing.

Non-Pokémon games do seem to struggle here, likely because it's crowded with Pokémon fans trying to make an uber-Pokémon game.

You've said an important thing there. The starter kit, for the newbies, seems to be the ultimate tool for creating Pokémon games. It would be, if it wasn't so poorly made. Blizzy had good intention and all, but he lacked the ability to make such important thing, and make it right.

In my personal opinion, starter kits are the future for the Pokémon Game Development, but until that day comes, we're stuck to poorly made and likely-to-die games.

Although starter kits are helpful, they take away the whole point of this forum. This is the game development section.
With starter kits, the only thing for the game developer to do is a storyline and/or maybe custom graphics..... But with only that, they may aswell post in the fan-art of fan-fic sections.

I know I am hipocritical when I say this (Because I did the same thing when I joined), but I whole-heartedly agree. This is also happenning in the ROM Hacking section too (But enough of that. It's offtopic).

Most users just want the attention and the feeling of actualy making their own game without actually having to do work (That is one reason why I am switching to coding in Python. I have to do everything from scratch, and I am willing to do the work). That is where the reliance of resources comes in. Don't get me wrong, it's ok to have a team, but only if you actually get stuff done. This is also where Blizzy's starter kit comes in. He basically felt sorry for the newbs so he started making something for them (It was a good intention, but it just made the Game Dev section a little worse, no offense to Blizzy). Anyway, enough of my ranting and summarizing about what everyone else said.
