TV Game Of Thrones Finale

Kind of a big event so I'm surprised that there was no GOT thread around to post about it in. How did you feel about the way the show wrapped up and what are your thoughts on the TV series in general now that it's over?

I'm so incredibly let down about everything re this finale except the memes. There's a difference between a bittersweet/"it's GoT there are no happy endings!!!!" and the mediocre mess we got. I really feel like I've wasted 8 years. ):

I stopped watching after the 4th episode this season and decided to spoil it for myself instead because it was so obvious where they were going with throwing Daenerys under the bus. I still maintain she would have been the best possible candidate for the throne and do not buy into her going 'mad'. I don't even acknowledge her burning Kings Landing the way she did as canon from how poorly written that sudden character change of hers was. Tyrion was an absolutely awful adviser and she'd have got the throne long before the Night King marched south of the wall if it wasn't for Tyrion and Varys telling her to be 'clever' when really they were responsible for most of her losses. Olenna was the only one that gave her any good advice since she got to Westeros "be a dragon".

Also speaking of the Night King and the army of the dead, now in retrospect it appears that that entire storyline appears simply to have been a plot device to give Dany extreme losses and be her undoing. And he wouldn't have even had the chance to march south so soon if she didn't have to go and rescue Jon bloody Snow allowing him the chance to take a dragon from her.

I know I can't entirely blame Hollywood clique tropes taking over for her fate since it'll assumingly end along the same lines if the books are ever finished (hopefully a more fleshed out decent into madness if that unfortunately has to be her fate) but such an unfortunate and predictable ending for the female lead of the show/story regardless.

Surely a much better ending would have been to have her proven everybody wrong; that she wasn't destined to become mad because she's a Targaryen. She's not above handing out swift death sentences when she feels it's justifiable and ultimately the most practical (and wise) decision from a political standpoint. Jon fails at that. At the same time she doesn't take a malicious sense of pleasure from such decisions either and only does so if it feels necessary (again I don't accept her burning Kings Landing as something she would actually do from how she has been written so far by a competent writer: G.R.R.M.). Cersei fails at that. She would have been the fairest and most pragmatic ruler. Her biggest mistake was unfortunately not trusting her own instincts more when she had most of her cards to play.
