Games beyond your skill level

Also the Demon Souls franchise. I have tried Dark Souls and Bloodbourne and, I don't know if I didn't play long enough to understand the combat fully or min-max my characters, but I haven't gotten very far in either game.
I've long felt that if garbage like me can make it through multiple Souls games multiple times then most people should be able to, but your first playthrough of any Souls game, especially your first Souls game, is usually the hardest. I think I died like 20 times just getting from the start of Dark Souls 1 to the first bonfire in Undead Burg the very first time I played DS1.

A lot of it will come from just not knowing where all the traps and ambushes are and how to deal with the bosses and certain other enemies. Once you've made it through everything for the first time, it gets noticeably better since you have that experience to aid you. You do also have to learn a little bit about the game mechanics a bit, and allocating your stats properly is important too.

before the previous year i would've said a ton of games but after getting through a few cycles of dark souls, getting 200% on cuphead and beating all the pantheons in hollow knight, i feel like i can at least make a good attempt at most games that require good reaction time and platforming. i still struggle with games that require good inventory management like darkwood but eventually i'll conquer that game too.

and yeah, what nah said is very true. the reputation for dark souls is way more intimidating than the reality of the game's difficulty. it's still a hard game but it's very manageable if you're willing to accept death until you learn the patterns.

I honestly have a hard time really coming up with games that I know are beyond my skill level. The reality is that a lot of games I never pursuit playing like the Dark Souls series I never continued because I didn't get a positive feedback loop out of it. Getting beaten by a boss is annoying because I have to do it all over again. Beating a boss is annoying because I'm too well aware that the rest of the game is still ahead and is just more of that frustrating stuff I experienced before. Doesn't help that I have a hard time picking up on game mechanics most of the time.
Games that can easily be exploited by overleveling aren't much different. But at least I can turn my head off and still be sure that at some point I can just plow through the rest of the game with no issues.

But just to name a game that's beyond me: I Wanna Be the Guy. I made decent progress but got stuck at one specific pixel perfect jump. I actually attempted it for a couple hours but gave up due to it feeling like a waste of time.
