Generalizations/Stereotypes you REALLY hate.

Like everyone else here, I too hate stereotypes, but some just frustreate me more than others:
1 - "Men are manly/feminnine men are gay". I dont think I need to explain this, plenty of people have voiced their dislike for this stereotype already.
2 - "Lesbians like sports". Of all the lesbians I know, I have not met one who enjoys sports (I dont actually know how popular this sterotype is these days but it is one that will always irritate me).
3 - "Guys know more about video-gaming than girls". After working in a video game store I have become very bitter to this particular stereotype. I didnt think people still believed this, but we get a lot of customers who are pretty vocal about it.
 
I really don't like the stereotype that all Asians are smart. I'm Asian, and I don't think I'm very smart.
 
List of stereotypes that I absolutely hate ::

- Asians are socially awkward and shy
- People that wear black are either goth or emo
- Those with straight A's must not have a social life
- Girls that wear short skirts are ****s

I have never heard of those stereotypes as far as gays are concerned... Well, the flamboyant one I've heard but yeah... the others 0.0 They don't even make sense. But in all honesty, what's wrong with perversion and one night stands? As long as both (Or all) parties are aware and nobody is simply using someone by making them believe it's something more then that's fine, imo.

I find that a lot of stereotypes are there for a reason... As long as we accept that a large number of people can be completely different from whatever stereotype they seem to belong to then it's all good. Stereotypes can be something to joke about in certain company (As long as you're not excluding anyone with your joke). I can say to my black friend that he should be good at basketball because he's black. This wouldn't make any sense if the stereotype wasn't there and yet it's harmless.

The problem is people can and often do use stereotypes to form their impressions of people. Oh, I'll hire the asian man because he must be smarter! If we use stereotypes for a bit of fun and treat people as indivuals then there'd be no problems.
 
People (mainly online) seem to think I'm gay because I like listening to Lady Gaga (which is weird, because pop is a genre I listen to the least). That's an assumption I wish didn't exist, but I guess I can understand. I don't take it as an insult though, because it's usually gays that assume it. It can be flattering sometimes.

This has happened to me also!

Anyways, yeah. I hate stereotypes. Some are incredibly hurtful and stupid.
 
One of my pet peeves (and one I'll admit I'm guilty of every now and then) is the one where someone says: "You don't know what it's like. You're not _____." Yes, more than likely the person hasn't had the exact same experience and in that sense there's some validity to using this phrase, but I think it creates more divisions than anything. I'd much rather someone said: "It's kind of like when..." and tries to help someone understand. Of course, often this comes up when someone is doing some other stereotyping in the first place and that's not cool either.

On a related note, I don't like the assumption that a person of one race or culture can't understand another person's.

Actually I don't fancy it, football looks more fun. But being black and skinny too, I look like a basketball person -_-

All that might really bother me is people unobservant enough of our world to find the capacity to despise stereotypes.
The people who aggressively propogate them is another matter, but the stereotypes themselves aren't any ill-doing, I think.
