Getting a DS - Buy which one?

okay so this Christmas Im looking to get a new DS along with a handful of Pokemon games to play on it

My question is which DS is the best?

Im not into this whole 3D fad so I wont be waiting for the 3DS

I basically want one for Pokemon, I've become re-addicted to the franchise after playing some ROMS I found on a CD

So Im basically after a DS (Red preferably, GB slot preferred) and Pokemon games

Well if you want one with GBA slot, your only choice is the ds lite. on the dsi there isnt any gba slots, and they dont sell and produce the old ds's anymore.

Well having a search those DS's are pretty hard to find anyway so I guess a GB slot doesn't really matter

Yes, theres one "LARGE" difference between them... Dsi XL is Alot Bigger! And no. the ds lites arent hard to find.. They just dont really sell them in a mono color anymore, now their all crimson-xyz. But you can get a crimson-red one...

I've done some searching online and have only found 1 store (Toys R Us) that have brand new DS Lites in stock, everywhere else is sold out

Try eBay, amazon and local electronic stores (You did say they're sold out...) but what I do is keep searching - I look everywhere in my city until I get what I want! xD
You can always ask the local store when they'll restock and if you're a regular customer you could ask them to order one for ya! ^^ (Although sometimes they do up the price a lil')

I work at the local Game store so putting one a side isnt a problem :P

Its just that with the DSi and XL being out and newer XL colours out this week it seems the DS Lite is not being stocked any more

I'll be waiting for the 3ds to come out because rite now I have the DS lite and it works very well, and didnt like the fact that DSi didn't have the GBA slot anymore!

I'd say get an XL. The bigger the better. XD

Unless you prefer having smaller console, then you're best off getting the original DSi.

I have the DSi XL though, but I didn't get the original DSi because I already had a DS lite, but my DS Lite snapped in two and conveniently the DSi XL was out. :P

But if you're just fine with using a a DS Lite, the only differences I see is that the DSi's come with a camera and I think it also uses a different way to connect to the internet? Might wanna give that a bit of research.

Buut yeah you might as well get the DS Lite if you have no use for a camera and the factor if you want to save a bit of money.

Well its for Christmas so I'm not bothered about a couple of £ either way, Im leaning towards a DS XL after doing some further searching

Question: the dark brown DS XL looks black on every image on the internet, is it really black?

Well, my XL is the Bronze colour which I think you're referring too, like this one. Soo it's basically a bronzey brown sort of colour.

You can use a DSi for web browsing, iirc, and it'll work with a WPA-secured network, but if you want to go online with any of your games, you'd need to find a WEP secured network, since the games only will work online if it's a WEP-secured network.
