5th Gen GF should stop pretending that Pikachu's a Unova Pokemon...

I can understand a Pikachu being owned by a hiker, and to a lesser extent, on a billboard (why pikachu? You have 493 others to chose from!), but why on Earth does the garden in Striaton City have Pikachu shaped bushes in it? Even a bellsprout would have been better because it's a grass type.

What I also don't get is that why so many other gen Pokémon appear on the right side of Unova, and absolutely none on the left? I know that GF don't want you to be able to catch other gen Pokémon before the elite four, but can't they be imaginative and come up with a more realistic, sensible way?

They should have used Emolga instead of Pikachu. I actually like Emolga more than Pikachu.

True. I can't argue with that. I guess I'm just getting so Pikachu'd out that it's clouding my judgement on things like this, heh...

I did make a note on Pokemon that travel worldwide though, but I just didn't think on the whole grand scheme of things. One thing that I guess would have been nice to have would be some sort of 'Safari Zone' much like in the sense of Generation I's R/B/Y, in Fuchsia City, showing off some of the Pokemon that come from other Regions. I'm actually surprised they didn't include that, thinking on it now...
That's a pretty good idea, it sounds like a zoo. Some people were confused as to why all these older Pokemon appeared in Unova after they beat the E4. Game Freak tried to explain it by saying "Um, they came from the Poketransfer thing", but really?

But yeah, it would have to be some sort of Safari Zone, where you can actually use your Pokemon.

Wow why are you so hung up over it? Pikachu is the mascot of Pokemon, whether you like it or not. Get over it. What a useless rant no offense......

Pikachu is pretty much the mascot of Pokemon. Removing Pikachu from the Unova games (they did remove him from the games if cameos don't count.) would be like having a Mario game without Mario in it at all.

That's like saying Americans can't put Koalas on billboards. It doesn't matter how far away the are, they still should know about creatures in other parts of the world. It actually makes less sense that there aren't Pokemon from other regions being shown. Seriously, many animals make their way around the world as well, specifically rodents and birds. Humans also introduce new species into places themselves

Why wouldn't the people in Unova know about Pikachu? That's like saying the people in the US don't know about lions and tigers and bears kangaroos. Americans use exotic animals on advertisement boards all the time.

Very good point here. Although, I haven't seen a single billboard in B/W with a Charizard, Lucario, Mewtwo, Meowth, etc. Outside the games, I remember an incident very well when two people at the school I went to, who weren't into Pokemon, had trouble remembering any Pokemon except Pikachu.

In other words, the point is not that Pikachu shouldn't be featured in Generation 5, but that it's way too publicized, recognized, and promoted.

Game Freak attempted to explain this by saying that the Pokemon escaped from the Poketransfer thing.

Emolga's already in it.

The box art only shows Gen V Pokemon and everyone's favorite yellow rodent, so maybe Bulbapedia's source was wrong. Still, we have that screenshot of Rattata in the game...

[PokeCommunity.com] GF should stop pretending that Pikachu's a Unova Pokemon...

IMO, Pikachu should be catchable in the third version. If the Unova-only thing sticks, Pikachu will be in the Giant Chasm forest due to its association with forests in the past.

I like Pikachu myself, but taking it from a proper look, it is not serving as a good mascot for Pokémon, to attract hardcore gamers. Giratina being the mascot would've made an impact alright. But that rat and his immortal vampire trainer in the animé are keeping a constant supply of kids, and a constant adult repulsion and coming to Nintendo...

PLEASE remove the picture instead of the whole post

Mascot is mascot, nothing is gonna change it. They need to include it as much as possible. Final Fantasy VII without Sephiroth would be just crap.
Mario without Mario would be Super Bros.
Zelda without Zelda would suck.
Sonic without Sonic would be pointless.
Same goes: Pokémon without Pikachu has no taste.

Pikachu is the most overrated pokemon ever, Even back in kanto there is much better electric pokemon then Pikachu :)

I don't want to able to catch it in unova either :)

This kinda makes sense though. IIRC, you control toys in Rumble, and I assume the same is true in the sequel. Isn't Pikachu marketed about the same as the Unova mons... as in, they're still making Pikachu toys?

The only thing I don't get is that Unova isn't suppose to really know anything about the other regions and their pokemon. This was further enforced by no new evolutions for the past pokemon and in the anime they didn't know what the heck Ash was carrying around.

So considering that, even if Pikachu is the mascot, how can he pop up everywhere. The only exception I'd allow would be the Hiker's Pikachu.

This, pretty much - the people of Unova barely even know about the other regions. When you encounter trainers from other places, they typically say something along the lines of "I come from a very far away land," and talk about how foreign things are. It's not as much using an Australian mascot in America, but more like using a flower from the island of Java as a mascot in America - people would just go "what is that?"

with that said yea Pikachu is getting more blah. He was cuter when his head was more boxy and not some round ball, and frankly I would rather have the alternative pikachu (pichu, plusle/minun, pachirisu, emolga) get a little more attention.. such as evolutions. I think my dislike for pikachu came from the anime though, I just thought it was irritating how it was all invincible. It was just a bit out of place in Unova where we could have seen Emolga instead.

But this really isn't worth the effort I put into this wall of text :p He's the mascot and whatever, makes sense, might as well

The game's now confirmed to have all the old Pokemon included, so there's no reason to be hating on Pikachu for appearing in this game. All the other Pokemon are guilty of it too. .-.

Pikachu is so overrated, why the heck does it have to be in every single Pokémon game D:<
Like a previous poster already stated, not having Pikachu in a Pokemon game is like not having Mario in a Mario game, or not having Link in a LoZ game.

I don't like the idea of letting the new rodents hog all the attention. Seriously, what's the point? They're just going to be completely shafted in a couple years. The franchise needs a mascot that consistently appears and is identifiable to everyone, even the people who aren't fans. No one's going to know who Emolga is, but everyone knows who Pikachu is.
