4th Gen Gold comparison

I had a realization today:

Gold is no longer a lefty anymore!
This kinda a sad thing. Gold being a lefty was unique. The only other video game character like that is Link from Zelda.

He was right handed in his backsprite, right handed in his G/S instruction booklet art...
I think he's ambidextrous.

His backsprite from GSC is Left handed too!

That has to be some freaky right handed stuff, because it's impossible to get your left hand in a pose like that because clearly his left arm is down. If that were his left hand, you'd see more of his left sleeve.

And all the trainers in their in-game back sprites are let handed.

Its definetly his left hand. Look where his thumb is: on the far side of the PokeBall. His right hand would have it on the near side of it.

He could be ambidextous. I like your theory Poliwagged.

Actually, if it were his left hand, his thumb would be on the right side of the poke ball in that pose, but you can see it's on the left side of the poke ball, which means that he is right handed there.

You know, looking at Gold..He looks younger than he was in the original G/S/C.

That looks more like 2 fingers on the left side. You can see the division between them. But im not gonna argue about it. I think hes Left-handed.

I mean the other way around. lol

Look at your left hand straight away, your thumb is on the right side. If it were in Gold's position, it would be on the left side, but on the left side in the backsprite is the little finger and the ring finger.

And look at your hand in the same kind of point of view as you are viewing Gold's sprite. If he was a righty the thumb would be on the left side of the pokeball from the viewer's POV. The sprite matches more with a lefty's hand positioning (although I admit it's awkard positioning)

O WELL.
LET'S JUST CALL HIM AMBIDEXTROUS. IT'S EASIER.
D:

But that's his right hand. D: If you hold your right hand in the same position as Gold's in, then he's right-handed. That's his thumb that's all by itself. Little fingers aren't supposed to bend like that. It physically hurts to bend the left hand into that position that Gold's hand is in. It's much easier with the right hand.

Anyhow, I like the new Gold. Then again, I am a fan of the smoother modern look, so his new design would appeal to me. Yeah, he doesn't look like a chunky kid. But Sugimori changed his style. It was bound to happen.

I dunno. I like it. He looks the age he's supposed to be (pre-teen), so he just fits my ideas of what he's supposed to look like better.

This gave me a chuckle.

I agree kinda. In his old art, he looked like a really big youngster, or a really small and fat teenager.
Either way, it looked like he had a bad genetic problem.

The original gold has red socks :P
He also looks a bit older. IMO.
I don't really have a preferance. I like both.
But the new shorts are a bit weird. ;D

I actually prefered how he looked when he was slightly stockier, unfortunately. I just think he looks better rather than some scrawny kid that we've become accustomed to. Don't get me wrong, I like the new design. But I prefered how he was built in the original, since it's a more realistic representation.

Gold comes a VERY close second behind Red (FR/LG version) as my favourite in-game character, simply because Red is the original and we can battle him in G/S/C. I'll sure look forward to that battle in the remakes.

But yes, overall I'm pleased with the revamp but slightly dissappointed, if that makes sense.

He looks much younger this time round; I love big eyes, but his are a bit too big... and WTF WHO STOLE HIS SHORTS?! ;; His Gold shorts made him who he was.

I like this style more than the first one, it kinda gives of an aura of 'new' or something, maybe because I've never played G/S/C before.

I was ashamed about Crystal, but I kinda like Soul, too.

What I can say is that at least he looks like the age of 10. Though, I compared the spriting, and man do I love this new modern look of Gold, it just makes a more outstanding appeal.

Both Golds are nice. Even though I prefer some aspects of old Gold more than the new one, but the new Gold is not a disappointment. The biggest difference that I can spot between the two is the appearance age wise and the feel of the character. The original Gold looks older and stockier and has a cool and collected look. New Gold looks taller and thinner, but has a younger look to him and a generic "I can do this!" blah blah blah hope and dreams look. If there's one thing I'll miss about old Gold's art, it's the confident but calm look that I feel he has.

Don't get me wrong. I like the new Gold's attire much more than old Gold's. And while Gold is supposed to be ten, the older and more experienced look of the first Gold appealed to me more than the new one's.
