2nd Gen Gold/Silver/Crystal Monotype Challenge

:D sounds awesome....Unfortunately idk how to trade to get gengar so I cant take up ghost.
SO I will take up normal if I can :D
However, I am going to not be very active in it until I beat the common type challenge.
But, still I am going to do a normal one. :D
Stats- Started out, chose chikorita and named it Byakuya
Named Rival Claus (although claus had more of orange hair...)
For added challenge I decided to use only 3 pokemon in battle
Spent FOREVER looking for dunsparce with no results
found a teddiursa ._.
Named it teddy
started looking for dunsparce again
found another teddiursa..
FINALLY found a dunsparce
Named it TSUCHINOKO
Went back to catch a sentret
Got a female one named... ANNIE
Decided to save and stop....
 
I've been doing a ground type monotype challenge, just got to Goldenrod, atm got Geodude, Onix (Rocky), Wooper and Sandshrew in my team, wanted to buy Cubone from the Game Corner but don't have enough money, anyone know any easy ways to win money or get money in Crystal?
 
I heard somewhere that the most sure way to get the coins is to just buy them from the guy until you have enough. Although it'll probably take loads of money though.


Progress update:

On the way to Olivine, I caught a Farfetch'd as an HM Slave. It took 10 great balls to catch it, I have no idea why it took so long after False Swipe took it down to 1 HP and Spore had it asleep. -_-
I got to Olivine, cleared the Lighthouse, and used my Totodile to Surf down to Cianwood (or whatever it's called). I fought most of the trainers (I can never seem to find them all).
I got a Shuckle as my 6th pokemon, marvelled at its weird stats, and trained it by switching it out to Butterfree after the first turn at Chuck's gym. I was about to beat Chuck when... I realized I forgot the Strength HM.
Darn! -_-
I pulled out a Repel my mom bought me from my PC and surfed all the way back to Olivine, got the HM, taught it to Heracross, and surfed back (this time with a Super Repel), and defeated Chuck.
I flew back on Farfetch'd and gave the medicine to Jasmine and saved before the gym. I'm having doubts about that Steelix, especially since my Pokemon are getting to the point where their levels are about on par with the gym leader's.... uh oh.

I started this today using bug pokemon. So far I've:
gotten Totodile
caught a Caterpie
evolved Caterpie all the way to Butterfree
swept through Sprout Tower
Beat Falkner easily
moved through Union Cave
captured a Sandshrew for Cut
Disposed of Team Rocket
Beat Bugsy using sleep powder and Confusion
Disposed of my Rival "Nate"
and Caught a Paras

That's called a Monospecies Challenge, if I understand you correctly. If there's no thread for that, I guess you can do it here, it's still within the rules. Anyway...

Okay, I'm starting a Electric Mono run for Crystal. I want to play this on Crystal, but you can't get Mareep in Crystal, so I sent one over from Gold... Here goes...

I also caught a male Slowpoke level 6, and a female Mareep level 6. My goal is to breed a baby male Mareep that knows Curse, breed that onto a Farfetch'd, and breed the result with a Pidgey. Then I'll have a cursing Pidgey! Is that illegal?
 
Hi... something weird happened and I lost my data for my Bug Run on Gold.

So I'm starting a Ground run on Crystal.

So far I did the errand for Prof. Elm, caught a Geodude on Mountain Road, and trained him. Then he beat Falkner EASILY (rock throw was super effective against birds, and flying types were not very effective against geodude). I Rock Throw'd through Sprout Tower, then I caught a Wooper south of Violet City and am currently training her.

I plan to have a total of 4 Pokemon, but I'm willing to take that down to 3 if I feel like it.

I'm on VBA so I can't evolve Geodude into Golem. I'm wondering if I should ditch him later because of this? My final team is probably going to be: Quagsire, Graveller (?), Nidoking, and Marowak/Gligar/Rhydon/Dugrtrio maybe. Probably won't use Sandslash, Onix, Pupitar, Donphan, or Piloswine.

For some reason I decided to give my rival a Bayleef so Razor leaf is DESTROYING my Geodude and Quagsire. Oh noez! ;_;

Both my pokemon are not fast enough to get a hit in before Razor Leaf goes in. Quagsire can survive ONE non-critical hit, but after that he's over. Slam won't do enough damage to take out Bayleef in one turn. I'm thinking I need to speed up Geodude to Selfdestruct Bayleef (probably not happening) or power up Quagsire so he can take 2 hits or klil Bayleef in one hit.
 
I'll do Bug, in Crystal.
Ariados is a sure in final team poke, just like Scyther/Scizor and Heracross.

i got that master ball from the professor.

i beat all the trainers on the route leading to victory road.

and then i lost a couple times to the first member of the elite four because it turns out ice is super effective against ground.
