Good flying Pokemon suggestions? How is my team looking? Any help appreciated

I'm currently playing through Heartgold and trying to find the ideal flying pokemon for my team and establish a powerful team before I'm far into the game. Currently my team is:

    - Gastly, Lvl 18
    - Kadabra, lvl 23
    - Geodude, lvl 19
    - Gyarados, lvl 20
    - Quilava, lvl 18
    - Growlithe, lvl 14

I just caught Growlithe and plan to train him to about lvl 18. I replaced Pidgey with Growlithe because Pidgey was dying quite frequently and I'm tired of Pidgeottos and Pidgeots.

What is a good flying pokemon replacement for Pidgey? I heard Crobat is good, but I really don't want to find a Zubat that's like lvl 4 and train it a ton. Where would I be able to find a good leveled Zubat if I'm currently at Ecruteak City? If not Zubat, what other pokemon are excellent flying pokemon?

Any further suggestions you could give me?

    Thanks

Crobat's good. my only other suggestions are Xatu or Noctowl. Try Mt. Mortar for a high level Zubat.
Also, for the sake of your team, i wouldn't have a Growlithe and a Quilava. replace one of them for more diversity.

Yup, just moved this thread to the right section for ya.

As for who's better: Typhlosion or Arcanine. I'd say Arcanine because it seems to have a wider move pool and better stats in my opinion. However, this is in-game, therefore either one would be fine; just go with whichever one you like. If both and you can't decide? Then choose both and have fun with it. You'll still end up beating the game once you've trained enough. :)

Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to stick with just Growlithe then because Arcanine is one of my favorite pokemon. I've trained Cyndaquils and Quilavas and Typholosions a million times and I need something different.

You could also wait until the 8th badge, obtain a Dratini in the dragon's den, then train it tons (it'll need lots of grinding, sorry) until, at lv.55, you get a Dragonite.

Or, get the gift Spearow "Kenya" in the top gate at Goldenrod City. One level later and you've got a Fearow!

Or start a new game go the 8th gym get dratini, THEN, tade it back to this present game and you have a level ten dratini

As you've got Heart Gold, you could use a Gligar->Gliscor. If you're willing to spend some time at the safari zone, you might also be interested in a Murkrow. The Dratini evolution line is also a good option for a strong Flying pokémon, as is Yanmega if you can get your hands on a Yanma. (at this point in the game, you can look for a Yanma and possibly Murkrow, depending on whether you've beaten Morty or not.)

As for you're argument over Typhlosion vs Arcanine, it would depend on which route you take attack wise. Arcanine comes out top at the physical end, and Typhlosion trumps the special spectrum.

You can go into Mt. Mortar and find Zubat around level 15, you can even do this BEFORE fighting Morty, because you aren't required to surf to get into one of Mt. Mortar's entrances.

You can get a Zubat before the first badge in Dark Cave. :D If you train that thing fast, you'll have a Crobat by Lv.25.

You could go to the game corner and get a Dratini there, since that becomes basically the best flyer in the game. I'm using Noctowl currently, and it's amazing later in the game.

Get a Murkrow from the pokewalker!! Honch is the best flying type ive ever had!

And if u breed it with a SkyAttack Noctowl, it'll be an amazing Honchkrow.

I LOVE MY HONCH, in Plat i hated Honchkrow but there's something about walking with him that seems so epic
