Graphic Rating Thread

Well, being the graphical genius you are, you should be able to understand that not everyone has the ability to create brushes. That's why people who aren't selfish create sets for other people to use.

At least I can manage to scratch a living off of my profession, do you get paid to be a raving pokemon fan? Sounds like an exciting job. People who don't have the ability to create brushes needn't make brushes at all. Despite popular belief, "Axel," mindlessly brushing around with downloaded grunge sets is not the only thing you can do with programs like Photoshop or even (need I even mention it?) Paint Shop Pro. And programs like the GIMP don't even feature such a function, but also lack other vital operations. I'd prefer you do all your work in Microsoft Paint than you use downloaded photoshop brushes. Someone with access to more than brushes shouldn't be so condescending as to only work in the field of brushes and colour balance.

And the quotation marks around Axel were placed there because I don't know who you are.

Nope, I don't get paid to be a raving Pokemon fan, since I'm not a raving Pokemon fan. I get paid for doing work off of my computer, where there is sunshine and people to involve myself with. And no, I don't have to be a "raving Pokemon fan" to be here. I'm simply here for the people, and because of a loyalty towards this place that I can not seem to shake no matter how hard I try.

I'm aware of what those two programs are capable of; I own them both. However, not everyone has access to them, or maybe they lack the skills or time. Because remember, most people don't have the time to sit around all day and make computer graphics. Downloading brushes is a matter of convenience for those who lack the time, skill, or resources. What you prefer means nothing. You aren't the god of all graphic design, nor does the fact that it is your "profession". Most members here just make banners for fun and to decorate their profiles, not to earn money or use on business related items.

As for my identity, I've gone by many a name. Legendary_Pokemaster, Daiaki, Daisuke, Yukito, Kurosaki, and now this username.

Wait... I'm not quite understanding your logic here. You said not everyone has access to Photoshop... and you said that's the reason people use brushes. But what I was implying was that the other programs don't really allow you to steal someone else's work so efficiently. I agree with you on just about everything else you just stated... but I'd like to comment on what you said about how most people don't have the time to sit around all day and make computer graphics. See, it looks like people have enough time to sit around all day and talk about pokemon, and I hang out with other designers.. they're a lot like people here, they spend a lot of time doing what they love to do. I'm not going to say I have that kind of time because I don't... I haven't actually done any formal work in design for about 3 months because I've been busy living the life someone my age should live. I am in no way the god of all graphic design, but I do know quite a bit about art and what stealing it is.

I don't know about raving pokemon fans but I agree with both of you. Infact, doing pictures in photoshop is the same as doing it in paint. Regardless, it takes skill to make a good pic. I've been around the gfx scene for a while and you come to realize this after a certain period of time. "If the sig was made by your own hands, I dont give a rats a$$ of what you use to make it. I prefer photoshop over paint because it's more adeptable of what I do for signatures. C4D, brush sets, etc, they are just a tool that we use to make pics. And as a tool, you have to be pretty damn good using it to make some good stuff.

Now for the sig rating, I like the fact that you used Tales of the Abyss characters but the Asch sig looks a little brush whored. It was a nice idea to try to brush an artifical wing on Asch..but it wasn't really needed. I love the Ion av though....oh wait, Loveless made those.

Shinou Pearl, you totally whored your sig with a variey of brush effects, just ease up on the amount of strokes you make...

Brush sets are not tools, they were not coded or manufactured at a home depot factory. They're pieces of work made by an artist and when used they should be credited. They are royalty-free stocks, but they don't belong to you.

...so what the point? If that was the case, the people who make the renders would have to credit the company who made the picture itself? Apparently these are mean't to be shared if they post it on the net, if not they would just have kept them for personal use. I make stocks and paint brushes but I don't go around telling people to credit me or what not all the time. I knew what I was getting into when I submitted it.

Dude, Mario Famous is right, we all brush whore like crazy, we should just delete our photoshops, we can never match his awesome skill... I mean man, I never would have though to throw a sprite in the middle of an over saturated rectangle, he's a God I tell you! :(

...Huh?...what are you replying to? lmao, oversaturated? Care to look at the psd file? We could could compare eachother artwork...

But seriously, what do you think about what's being discussed in this thread.

First of all, learn what sarcasm is. Then how about you stop critiquing like your stuff is actually… Great? Anyone can copy and paste an image onto a so-so background dude.

Hmm, I'm just speaking what I know, and what I said said in my last post...I was serious, we could compare eachothers artwork by showing eachothers psd files...so we can both learn something from eachocher. I don't have to say how good my gfx skills are, people do that for me.

No, that would be useless, our styles are really diffrent. o.O

What the hell are you talking about? Would you like to look at my work? I've never used a sprite in one of my tags, I've never used your so called "over-saturated squares." If you want to look at the kind of people who potentially will whore this style, you need only look in a mirror. Do not take me for an idiot for even a second, I'm not here for the ego you seem to take so seriously. Once upon a time, that's who I was, but I am an artist now. I don't do your impish "banners," I work in tee-shirt design and posters. I used to imagine you people actually didn't understand how using downloaded brushes is not scratch artwork, but now I realize you do, in fact, get it. Of course if someone gets on your case about using artwork that isn't your own, you're going to defend yourself. That's only natural. You keep up what's easy, and when someone gets in the way and tries to help you start making your own art, you crucify him. I understand this process, it's happened to all designers who've found creativity in themselves. I've been designing for years, and I've seen my growth. In the prime of my "design" career, I had everyone on my side. That's what design was back then... it was like having an expensive sports car or large muscles. If you were decent at something nobody at the time could do, you were the ****. Look... https://www.theud.com/pokecommunity/showthread.php?t=22261
Back then it was all about marking your territory... look how far I've come. https://www.vsupernus.com/sawyer/

Over the years I've come to realize that not everyone has the advantages I have now. When I first started I was outspoken everywhere, now I'm only outspoken here. Among my fellow artists, however, I actually have something to say. Believe me, I used to use downloaded brushes until I actually came into contact with real designers. I spent an entire year in the shadow of oblivion and then I met my maker. :) I hope that those of you who are actually serious about design will find your way to real art.

Wasn't even talking to you. But good job taking 10 minutes to type out a paragraph that makes you look like a fool. :)
Try actually reading what people post instead of jumping in just so you can pull a speach out of your arse. I didn't even post here to be rated, I never asked for ciritisum, of course, if you'd look at what I typed out you'd know that too. I never said my stuff was great, it's a hobby, God, how long have you been waiting to lash out? You sound kind of egar and it's sad.

his awesome skill

You were talking to Mario Famous, you would not have referred to him in the 3rd person if you were speaking directly to him. That's called 2nd person. The "his" was either directed towards me, or someone else. I assumed it was directed toward me, hence the paragraph. And for the record, I read over your post several times trying to make sense of it.

It's called sarcasm you over dramatic retard. You both need to learn it. Now quit trying to cover your tracks. Banners aren't most people's here's life's work you know? Quit making them out to be such a big deal. You said something stupid, let it go and quit arguing before you get in trouble.

That's perfectly reasonable, Axel, I'm sorry for lashing out like that. Don't hold me to this, but I'm not particularly apologetic to you, Loveless. I did not say anything stupid or degrading, and I'm not worried about getting in trouble. I probably won't get in trouble, and if I do I have nothing to lose. I'm not worried about getting banned for telling you your work is not really yours, and if I do end up getting banned for that I probably won't want to have much to do with this website anyway. The point I'm making is correct, not because I say it is but because I know it is. It might not matter to most of you and it doesn't matter to me while I'm here amongst peers, not other designers. But I said what I wanted to say and I'm not going to take it back.

You have absolutly no right to judge what art is. What your basicly saying is that you are an artist and others arent simply because they can't make their own brushes. What makes you so special you get to decide what art is? I don't go around telling 5 year olds that macaroni collages aren't their art work because they didn't make the pasta, glue and paper. Art is whatever the artist makes it. Brushes are put on deviart to be downloaded, or else they wouldn't have that option. If you can make your own, cool for you, but if you can't, that sure as hell doesn't make you a good "artist", it just means you can make a photoshop brush. It's how you use them.
You aren't any better then anyone here, and the opinions you have may be right for you, but that does not mean they are right for me or anyone else, so quit preaching them. That is a fact, you can't fight me there.
I never said you'd get banned, you will get in trouble for picking fights though. And yes, lashing out at me or anyone else because you didn't read a post correctly is very stupid.
Frankly, I'm sick of talking to you, you're very arrogent and on a high horse.

Anyone who knows me knows as well that I'm an arrogant dick. There's really not much you can expect from me, hah. I'm not trying to cover up the fact I'm an *******, and you're not revealing anything I've kept discreet thus far. Downloaded brushes and macaroni noodles are very different things, by the way. Macaroni noodles used in an artistic way are materials, they are resources. Even though Photoshop Brushes are listed in Resources, that does not make them actual materials. Look at any set of downloadable abstract brushes on deviantART and tell me if the brushes don't exactly reflect the main image used in any signature or tag that involved said brushes. You are in no way a revelator (in reference to both my cockiness and brushes) and have no position in the statement you're making. I can understand your point of view, but I don't think you understand mine. My experience far exceeds yours, and of course there was a time when I was in your position, using downloaded brushes and also defending them. I understand what you're saying, but that does not make it true. Likewise with my statement, so we'll end this argument merely by saying neither of us are right or both of us are right.
