Hello to everyone. My name is Dave and I have never played a Pokemon game before properly. I think I played one of the original Game Boy ones for a bit when I was younger (I'm 33 now) and I rented Pokemon Stadium on the N64 once but it never really grabbed me.

I love the whole idea of collecting monsters and evolving them but always dismissed Pokemon. Anyway, my sister in law is excited for X and Y and she said I should look into it. So I checked out some trailers and think it looks better than the early ones I saw all those years ago so I thought what better place to get more info than a forum dedicated to the series.

Anyway, hope to talk to some of you soon.

    Hey Dave. Welcome to PC!:)

You know, that's the best thing there is about Pokemon. One is never too old to play games such as these. It brings a feeling of adventure and mysteries to each player who starts in a new region, with experiences to soon get. The retro ones were great, all tho not perfect. It brought a satisfaction to gamers everywhere when Pokemon was first introduced.

I recommend you check out the Metal and Color Generation Gaming section for all the chit-chat and discussions about the first generations from Pokemon Red, to Pokemon Crystal. Also right below it, is the Spin-off games for talk about games such as Pokemon Stadium, Colosseum, Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Snap, etc. And finally, for all the recent talk of the new generation, check out the Current Generation Pokemon Gaming.

    Enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the kind reply Negix. One of my main questions I have is whether you need to have played any of the games to understand the newer ones. For example, Animal Crossing New Leaf (The reason I bought my 3DS XL) doesn't require knowledge of any former game although I have played most of them. Is this true for Pokemon too?

Nice to meet you bro, i just joined this forum too, cant wait to get X and y and do some battling and trading. Where you from bro. Get back to me

Not really. The story throughout the series is quite linear and easy to follow. However what does require a bit of knowledge are the Pokemon types. This can make it a lot easier/harder for you if you do or don't know what they're weak against.

Like Negix said, you definitely don't need to have played older Pokemon games to understand these new ones. They're always easy to understand and absolutely anyone can get into Pokemon regardless of if they've played before or not. We can all promise you that - no worries! X and Y are looking amazing so I'm sure you're going to love them. Don't hesitate to purchase a copy. <3 Welcome, Dave!

Your age doesn't matter at all here either since the forum has members of all ages. Your sister in law sounds like an amazing person so perhaps she can join us here one of these days, baha. Hopefully you end up getting hooked on Pokemon whenever you purchase a game and continue to check back 'n post around! There are so many great people here who are eager to meet you.

Have a lovely time on the forum. Be sure to let the staff know if you need anything at all!
