    Alright let's get things rolling! I think it's best if we start off of a basic template of headings and whatnot. I think the most important thing is to get the content and text fleshed out first and then add all the awesome CSS acessories in the later stages! I think we should go for a pretty minimalistic approach. Keep things simple sweet y'know;

A basic plan of the OP would include:
    Heading Here
[Little catch phrase and link to the RSE/DPPt Secret Base Contest]

    Intro
(Explain what the contest will include.)

Important Dates and Entry Details (this will include the rules and guidelines, hosts, start and finishing dates and any other important information entrants need to be aware of.)

    Current Entries
(Will entrants be able to post their entries in the thread or would they be required to PM us? I'd prefer them to post it in the thread. Thoughts?)

    Judging & Prizes
(Brief explanation on how judging will work and what prizes will be awarded. The latter we could keep a secret, but again, thoughts?)

    Here's a basic checklist:

    • Decide on appropriate layout/headings.
    • Decide upon rules for the contest.
    • Get CSS/make the event look preeeeetty.
    • Decide on prizes (probably an emblem?) and make emblems if so.
    • Decide how entries will be judged.
If I've left anything out, please let me know! I was also thinking, that the two events maintain a somewhat similar style/are at connected to eachother as they both represent the awesomeness that is of course GPGD. We could just provide a simple link to each thread or have similar CSS styling, or both!

    Also, CUTE PUPPIES!

My only thing with emblems is that since GSC entries are only being judged against GSC entries and likewise with HGSS, do we want emblems for GSC and HGSS? I was just thinking of having a Winner and Runner-up emblem, but should we have a separate pair for GSC and HGSS?

In regards to judging, I was thinking you and I could use a point system, with each category being a max of 5 points or so, 5 being outstanding and 1 being atrocious...lol. So the categories could be as follows:

Pokemon: How well does this Pokemon stand out as a brilliant Bug Pokemon? (10 points)
Moves: How well would this bug do in battle? (5 points)
Bonus: Shiny, Nickname (up to 2 points each)

HGSS only categories (in addition to the ones above):
    Nature (5)
    Ability (5)
    Bonus: Location met, IVs (2)

That seem good? Anything you want to add or remove? Also, I'm purposely not including levels. I don't think they're really relevant, but if you feel otherwise, we can work something out. I used to participate in RNG challenges and when we posted our entries, I found that level was often irrelevant unless it tied into a theme they were going for, so we could just make it an option if anything.

Also, the proposed format for the Pokemon entries (not the actual sign up) being posted:

    *bulbagarden.net image removed*
    Venicia / Venonat ♀
[ Psychic, Curse, Sleep Powder, Leech Life ]

[PokeCommunity.com] GSC/HGSS Bug Catching Contest Planning Thread

    Vivian / Venonat ♀
    Timid | Compoundeyes
    31/0/31/31/31/31
[ Rest, Snore, Baton Pass, Stun Spore ]
    -National Park-

That's gonna be the example, but of course as long as it's something similar and gets the point across, then they can format it however they want.

    Rule suggestions:
    1. You may enter both the GSC and HGSS contest, however one entry per generation.
    2. Pokemon must be a Bug type, but does not have to be caught in the Bug Catching Contest. As long as it's a bug you caught yourself, you're good.
    3. Soft resetting and RNGing are allowed. Hacks are not.

Feel free to add or suggest more.

I think we should have winning emblems for both categories and participants emblems for those who didn't win. I'm not too keen on runner up emblems, but if you'd like to have them then I don't mind.

I'm happy with the scoring system. I don't really see the need for levels either so, let's scrap them.

With the format of entries, do you mean the Pokemon posted under the entries category? I assume so. I thought you meant the actual entries (even though you specified it wasn't), because I thought they'd have to take a picture to confirm legitimacy.

omg how did I not remember participants? Duh! Yes, participant emblems and such. I think the participant emblem could just be one emblem and the winner one will have two, one for GSC and one for HGSS.

I figured we could trust members enough to actually have the Pokemon they're entering, but we could require a picture in a spoiler if you'd like. But that format is the common format in Trade Center when listing Pokemon, and it's easy to read and such and looks nice. Be easier than reading someone's possibly crappy screenshot, ya know?

If we do allow them to post without a screenshot, how do we know the Pokemon have been caught within the set rules? Pokecheck or whatnot? (Not proficient in the trade/pokemon market aspects.)

We could ask for legality analysis from Pokecheck for the HGSS entries and screenshots for the GSC entries. I honestly don't think we should require them...I guess I trust the memberbase a bit more though, but if you would feel more comfortable with them, that's fine. My only concern is that people won't be able to take screenshots or they don't have wifi to use Pokecheck. Which I know, it's 2013 and most people can, but you have younger members and then members that don't have the corresponding DS for their home wifi (I was in that boat myself for years).

Hey there. Just had a small concern. I know that IVs are bonus, but by having them scored, anyone with the ability to RNG is gonna have a clear advantage over anyone who just went for random encounters. I mean, if you plan on having a winner, someone like me isn't gonna stand a chance against an RNGer. I don't really know what a viable solution to this would be, but I just thought I should get that put there.

We could lower them to one point. Each IV isn't being graded though, it will be as a group. I mean, I'm sure if someone has at least one IV 25+, I'd give them that bonus point. But Nathan may not. He may hate IVs or only like straight 31s. Even without IVs as bonus, RNGers would probably still have the upper hand. It's mainly a matter of their Pokemon. I think I have a solution though, if Nathan is alright with it. Like the old RNG challenges, we could required a small description of your Pokemon, why you chose it, why you RNG'd it the way you did, why you named it x, etc. The description could be worth 10 as well. Nathan, would that work in your favor?

I have no knowledge about IVs so even if they remain as part of the judging criteria (as two points or as their own sub-criterion), I'll probably award minimal points.

Also, I've messaged Counterfei(ie?)t, and he's all good to go for whipping up some snazzy CSS for the opening post!

    Okay so

    - Change IV grading to 1 point
    - Require description of Pokemon (why you chose it, why it's named that, etc)

Sound good then? :) Also, if you don't mind Nathan, could you see if Counterfeit could do some CSS for the Secret Base Contest? Which btw, we should start shifting some more attention to that, if that's alright. n__n

    Sounds good.

And sure; he hasn't replied to my second PM yet so perhaps he's missed it and the next one will wake him up, lol. And yeah, let's focus on the Secret Base Contest. I'll most likely have all the content of the BCC up by tonight or tomorrow since I'm now on holidays. Wooo!

Edit: I've messaged him and now all we can do it wait I suppose.
