    Art Contest Planning

Competitors must, within the week, create a piece of art themed on the Olympians.
This can be anything from digital art, drawn art to sculptures.
All works should be created within the week, and not previously have been worked on beforehand
Any pieces of work violating the general PC rules, or the A&D rules will be disqualified
If a piece doesn't fit the criteria at all, it shan't be accepted as a submission; all pieces must fit the criteria.

    Criteria:
    • Must follow the rules previously outlined.
    • Theme is: The Olympians! - This is free to be interpreted as you will
    • The piece can include other themes as well, for example a futuristic setting. But the main theme must clearly be The Olympians.
    • Piece must be self-submitted, self-created and self-approved! I will be checking places like deviantart for every submitted piece. But be happy with your piece too!
    • Have fun! How you go about this competition is up to you, but enjoy it :)

If anyone has any ideas they think would be awesome to see, post it here, always happy to hear thoughts!

Just drawing your attention here, so I can ask you what your thoughts are, what you would like to arrange, anything you want to add/change and so on :)

And voila! I am here. :)

Like I said in my PM, I like the fact that mediums aren't being restricted- but I'm also concerned about how it's going to be judged. I was briefly thinking we set up a system of four(+) categories in which we are able to loosely "rate" each entry; form, positioning, color, how well the theme was captured, (and possibly like a "special" category for entries that just... stand out!).

Now on to nit picky things!

How are participants going to submit their work? Are they going to post their work in the thread or will they PM their entries to you, in order to be reposted in the voting phase anonymously (something that's actually quite useful in contests like this; prevents favoritism).

How exactly should judging be done? Should there be a poll in the thread in order to let members post their favorite entry, which we can take into consideration when we officially judge them amongst ourselves? Or should everyone be able to use the above rating method to choose a winner.

Should there be a first, second, third set up? Or just a winner and participants?

Giving people full reign on the kind of piece they make is, I think, the strongest point here. And I think that kind of freedom is what makes this so appealing. The only thing I can think to suggest is perhaps a size restriction? Like no bigger than 800 x 800 or something. But that again comes back to creating one unifying element so each piece is easier to judge.

Sorry for being so voting-centric. I've always found while running competitions like this that everything up until the voting/judging is easy; but actually setting up a system to select a winner can be a chore. :x

Yes, I really like this, and I think this should definitely become a part of the competition. Will give people more chance to be winners ^^

I was going to have the entries posted to me, and the voting done anonymously, yes. It seems like the fairest option available, no?

I think outside voting should only be a part of the overall judging. I think, in terms of the voting, there should be a score awarded for votes given by the users, and the piece with most votes would get the highest score in that category. But I was thinking of having other scores given by us, the judges, that would ultimately decide the outcome. Of course, the viewers votes will count, and matter, but wont be the only deciding factor.

Should there be a first, second, third set up? Or just a winner and participants?

    Yes, I think, in-keeping with the Olympics, there should be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place set-up.

A size restriction sounds sensible, and is something I didn't think of, so thanks for that :) I'll add that to the rules too.

Then I'm all the more glad for your input! :) I'm not very experienced in this, so any advice you have, help and so on is always appreciated. Especially coming from you, as mod of A&D :P

Alrighty, base-line css coming up. About time I got to this really, haven't got long left.

This is still a wip, I'll come back to it a bit later.

    EDIT:

You don't think you could perhaps create some snazzy pixel art titles for each section could you? They don't have to be super complex or anything, image titles just often look nicer since you can't stylise text :/ Something involving the color; #E4D0B7 for the main central boxes and the color; #170B00 for the floating side boxes, if possible. Though I leave the colours to your eye, if these don't work out for you :)

EDIT2: Can you also screen shot what the css looks like to you Jo please? :)

Just posting to say yes to everything and I'll do it asap!

So the code looks a bit... Strange on mobile, but I guess that's bound to happen.

Ugh sorry for the late reply. I actually lost power last night. :(

Anyway, here's how the CSS looks from my end.
    Spoiler:

    So pretty good imo!

Now do you want me to do typography for just the main title? Or all of the Secondary (Welcome, Rules, Brief, etc) titles as well?

I dislike how squashed the side bars are hmm... :/

Also, for all the titles, main and sub please! :) And those in the float boxes before I forget x)

I just want to run the title past you before I work on the others real quick:

    Spoiler:

Any changes you want me to make? :) Also if you want you can PM me the coding and I'll take a look at it.

Well, I just implemented the code into the css above, and it looks good imo. I'm having second thoughts about the background though, it seems a little... Loud to me. I'll have a look for something more auspicious.

Also, I've done the emblems, and I think they came out well, for something hand drawn haha.
