The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:

Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.

To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.

The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

I am really disapointed about this, it seems stupid to push it back so faar.. People who like Harry Potter would still see it in November, even if they had school...

Well, they may be pushing it back, but it better be better made than Order of the Phoenix. I found that movie really bad. It was nothing like the book, which I understand happens, but come on. They took out a lot that made the book exciting and rushed the entire finale. They barely included some of the scenes from the book that showed how intricate and mysterious the magical world was.

And I didn't find Harry's whole emo deal very good (with all the silly flashbacks and dumb part where he screams, "No!" and tries to get to Sirius). It was really..stupid, in my opinion. Having re-read the book only recently, I know it goes a bit closer to the book than I had previously thought, but it's still not very good compared to the other films in the movie (excluding PoA, which was bad).

So I'm hoping HBP proves itself a worthy addition to the series of films by making it the best and closest to the book as they can. :x

Man, that's a whole year without a new Harry Potter movie! Not that i'm saying they should rush it, though.

I agree with Feiku, they did rush the finale in the Order of the Phoenix, and i really don't like it when they don't follow the book! I really hope the Half - Blood Prince is very good and worth the wait.

    True true...
I honestly hope that in the extra time they are taking to make it, they make it better than all the other movies. I really want the second last movie to really rock my world and leave me wishing for more Harry Potter.

Actually, this will be the third to last movie. They're splitting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows up into two separate movies to be able to fill the whole book's plot into it. I personally think that's a great idea, because Deathly Hallows was such an information filled book.

They better do this one justice then, because this is my favorite and arguably the most important when it comes to building up for the conclusion. The last one was abysmal in my opinion.

Itll be a good film :) when things are taken time over, they come out good.

The quality of the film isn't going to be improved by the delay. The movie's pretty much done, and the same director is doing Deathly Hallows, so I assure you that's where they're going to be focusing their efforts. They're just gonna sit on this one for the next year under the assumption that they'll make more money on it by releasing it in the summer.

Yeah I agree. They are done filming HBP. They are only changing the release date to make more money as the dark knight did so well in its release this year.. They think more people will see it because its summer break for people in school. But I think Potter fans would see it if it came out in November anyways.

In regards to the last film, I agree with you. Umbridge hogged practically all the spotlight, which made it awful. The film would have been better if it did not focus so much on her. Granted, she is an important character in Order of the Phoenix, but there are other characters who play big parts in the story. Neville, Hagrid, Luna, and the Death Eaters should have all been given more screen time. It also should have had Quiditch ("WEASLEY IS OUR KING!").

However, the sixth book is my least favorite from the series. This is because the plot focuses too much on the Harry x Ginny and Ron x Hermione romances. They are both terrible pairings. One is poorly written and development. The other involves two people with clashing personalities who constantly try to hurt one another emotionally. I did enjoy learning about Tom Riddle's past, though. It was the only thing that kept me reading the book.

While I am a big fan of the Harry Potter movies, I don't care. Like, at all.

Because this means Twilight hits theaters THREE WEEKS EARLY :D:D:D

That is so worth waiting for Harry Potter for.

Its a good idea but I'd say the first reason they did it, was for money...

Well I'm disappointed... the reason they pushed it back is so stupid. >_> But I'll wait for it anyway. Even though the fifth movie IMO was really badly done, and since the sixth book is my favourite after "The Goblet of Fire" I really hope they don't ruin it. :(
