Hey, I haven't played played the TCG in a while, but I'm starting up again. I would like to know how powerful I would be against the new gen pokemon with a card bank of over 1000 cards, and a refreshment of the rules, if anyone has any important info.

I'm sorry to say, but I believe most, if not all, of your cards would no longer be tournament legal for official tournaments, and most of them probably wouldn't be competitive with the newer cards anyway, due to a substantial amount of "power creep" having happened in the last 7 years of the game.

As for rule changes, I don't know where a complete list of the rules is off the top of my head, but here's the tutorials portion of the official site and you can see if there have been any major changes to the basics of the game since you last played: https://www.pokemontcg.com/tutorials

I also recommend buying the Black & White Trainer Kit to relearn how to play.

Yeah, after taking a look at Black and White decks, I've noticed I would need to be extremely strategic to win, if my cards were "tournament legal".
    Thanks for your help, anyways.

You could use them at small local tournaments maybe. I know some leagues run tournaments specifically using only the older cards, but none of those are events sanctioned by Play!Pokemon. Those who run those small local tournaments tend to the Play!Pokemon certified Professors (meaning they act as officials/judges at official tournaments) who've been playing the game for a while and would like to play against people with the older cards.

I've been playing since gen 3 came out, and inherited a bunch of really old cards. I could try entering them at my local shop. I'll ask for specifically old card tournaments. That is, once I get back in the game.
