Help identifying this Machop misprint? ("thumb print")

    Hey everyone.

I got this Machop from a pre-built box set (the one with Machamp in it) back when the cards first came out, at first I thought the weird ink stamp was intentional and meant to represent Machop's thumb print until I realized all of my friend's Machop's didn't have it.

Was this common, were there ever similar misprints? To me it looks like an ink bubble popped on it or something. I've tried looking into it in the past, however I could never find anything. Trying again now since I recently dug my collect out.

    Thanks!

is it possibly an after print stain? Like maybe it got some loose ink smudged on it?

Nope, not a chance. The card came like this right out of the pack. Like I said the memory stuck with me because I thought it was supposed to be his thumb print on the card and I thought maybe it was a thing some cards had. Never saw it myself on any other cards though, just this one.

No i mean, is it possible it got ink smeared on it in the factory before it was packed?

Ahh ok, I thought you meant after opening. I'm not sure, it does look like an ink bubble or something. Could have even been a printer issue.

Yeah that was likely it. Just a one time mistake that made it past quality control somehow.

I've already had a few different people contact me looking to buy the Machop error card. Would this be considered rare since it's potentially the only one? I have no idea of it's value though I didn't really have an intention to sell it originally...

Printing defects, while rare, are hit or miss as far as affecting a card's value. That card is worth something like $0.25 for its non-defect version, though, so I wouldn't expect a crazy amount for it.
