Okay, hello, new member here, me,
So I'm trying to create a team where I have mostly Water- and Dragon-types.
I got 6 pokemons to get me started and need help on their movesets and you guys can recommended any pokemon worth switching in for. (Except for metagross he stays in no matter what.)

Im gonna start experimenting with Evs so help me out if you can...

    Sceptile @ Life Orb
    EV: 252 Att, 252 HP 6 Sp
    Leaf Blade (for power)
    Energy Ball
    Rock Slide
    Iron Tail

Well this guy came straight from Emerald, rate him if you can, energy ball is for whats worth of Sceptile's SpA.(which is better then his Att)(I also just resently started messing with the EVs)

    Metagross @ Quick Claw
    Meteor Mash
    ThunderPunch
    Earthquake
    Explosion

    Gyarados @ Leftovers
    Dragon Dance
    Waterfall
    EarthQuake
    Avalanche

    SWAMPERT @ ???
    Earthquake
    Surf
    Ice Beam
    Facade

Garchomp @ ???(Aint need no items! Just suggest one)
    Sword Dance
    Crunch
    Earthquake
    Dragon Rush

    Blastoise @ ???
    Ice Beam
    Skull Bash
    Hydro Cannon
    Rain Dance

Well I'll get a few things straight, EVs are extra numbers you can add on to Pokemons stats by defeating a certain amount of a particular pokemon. Most pokemon have an EV value. For example, Zubat is worth 1 Speed EV. So, defeat four Zubats, and you will earn an extra point in speed. Though, you should use right EVs for the right pokemon. For example, EV training a Heracross in Sp.Attack is an awful idea, you should max out it's brilliant attack and give it PHYSICAL moves like Megahorn and Stone Edge. To find out more about what pokemon's best stats are, try looking at the Marriland Pokedex here:
    *link removed*
Just click on a pokemon and you can check out it's egg moves, stats, moves and all.

About natures, you need a nature that will boost a necessary stat for the pokemon, and will decrease something un-needed, for example Adamant is good for a Metagross, because it doesn't generally need Sp.Attack, due to it's massive attack, and Adamant boosts attack and decreases special attack. The link for pokemon natures is here:
    https://www.psypokes.com/lab/natures.php

To the team now. I don't like type based teams, as they can somewhat be more easily swept by certain pokemon, for example in this team, something like a Roserade can be a big threat.

    Wailord@Leftovers
    Quiet Nature
    EVs: 252 HP 120 Atk 136 Sp.Atk
    Surf
    Ice Beam
    Earthquake
    Toxic

I'm not a massive fan of Wailord, it has horrible defenses, average attacks, and massive HP. Those stats aren't particularly useful, but I came up with that set if you do plan on using Wailord. Please DON'T use Water Sport, that's a horrible move.

    Metagross@Life Orb/Choice Band
    Adamant Nature
    252 Atk 252 Spe 6 HP
    Agility/Bullet Punch
    Meteor Mash
    Earthquake
    Thunderpunch/Zen Headbutt

Metagross doesn't really do special. If you want an Agiligross, arguably the best Metagross set, then use Agility instead of Bullet Punch, and only then use Life Orb. If you want Bullet Punch, only then use Choice Band.

    Gyarados@Leftovers
    Adamant Nature
    252 Atk 252 Def 6 Spe
    Dragon Dance
    Waterfall
    Earthuake/Stone Edge/Ice Fang/Return
    Taunt

This is a standard Tauntrados. It's very bulky, so it can take hits, ruins walls with taunt, and hits thing with a hell of a lot of power. Also after a few DD's it's very speedy. Often used as a lead, so put it first in your party.

    Swampert@Leftovers
    Impish Nature
    EVs: 252 HP 252 Def 6 Atk
    Curse
    Earthquake/Stealth Rock/Rest
    Waterfall
    Avelanche/Hammer Arm

This is one of many great Swampert sets. This is known as Cursepert and it's one of the most annoying things in existence. The idea is to keep cursing until you're practically invincible, and then hammer the foe with the necessary attacks. I personally run Curse/SR/Waterfall/Avelanche, but it's up to you. You may want to change those EVs a bit as well if you want more attack or whatever.

    Garchomp@Choice Band
    Adamant Nature
    EVs: 252 Atk 252 Spe 6 HP
    Earthquake
    Dragon Claw/Outrage
    Stone Edge/Iron Head/Crunch
    Fire Blast/Fire Fang

CB chomp. Garchomp I think now is considered an uber, so you shouldn't actually be using it in standard battle, but there's a standard Choice Band set for you.

    Blastoise@Leftovers
    Bold nature
    EVs: 252 HP 120 Def 120 Sp.Def 16 Sp.Atk
    Protect
    Surf
    Toxic
    Ice Beam

Bulky Blastoise. Protect to see what they're going to use against you. If you think you will survive it, with this set, it's most likely you will, then use Toxic and proceed to wreck them with STAB Surf and Ice Beam.

If you're talking about Wailord then, yes,it's horrible. However,it can hurt because of Kyogre so it's not necessarily a horrible move.

Kyogre can't even learn Water Sport. It's awful, honestly.

Water sport is never useful. Mainly because any competant battler over wifi will only have one move of each type per poke, so you're only denying him one move. Big whoop.

Eww sucky ev spreads are sucky

    212 HP / 16 AT / 136 DEF / 144 SPEED on Dos

iron Head is almost always a garbage move. AND Jolly not Adamant. on Chomp

    252 att / 252 speed on metagross ??? ?_? 152 HP / 252 ATT / 104 SPEED PLZ..

Also, guys, i think he meant Water Spout, Not Sport.

Yeah I usually suck with EVs. *Looks Shameful*

Wow thx guys, the problem is, i find water spout rather convinient and since wailord nas a horde of life, I thought it wouldn't hurt, I think I'll switch Garchomp out with something else, anyone in for Snorlaw?

Oh, by the way, I'm into more of a defensive stance in battle...

Um, yea, what does the blue check mark next to my post mean? and the other marks?

    Wailord @ Leftovers
    Water Sport
    BLizzard
    Rest
    Sleep Talk
I hate Wailord. It may have a wonderful HP stat, but its Defenses are terrible and offenses are nothing to be proud of. I believe there are many Pokemon who outclass Wailord. It doesn't really fill any particular roles, by the way. It's neither a sweeper, or a wall. While it fills no particular roles, it's main job is to deal damage. I don't suppose Water Spout would be a healthy choice due to its lack of defenses, resulting in a larger amount of damage taken.

Wailord @ Leftovers / Choice Band
    Trait: Water Veil
    Nature: Adamant
    Evs: 252 Attack / 252 HP / 4 Defense
    - Waterfall
    - Avalanche
    - Earthquake
    - Selfdestruct / Toxic

This set allows Wailord to deal a good amount of damage with Choice Band. Selfdestruct for when its hopeless for Wailord, or when you want to take out a threat, or if you want to see a big fat blue whale blow up into tiny pieces of Remoraid. With this set, it can get a good amount of damage directed towards the foe with good coverage too.

    Metagross @ Quick Claw
    Meteor Mash
    Physic
    Sludge Bomb
    Explosion
Quick Claw is a hax item, and should not be used. Psychic and Sludge Bomb are both terrible because they have some of the worst type coverage in the game. So scrap those two moves in place for some better moves, such as Thunderpunch and Earthquake. Nothing else to say here, Explosion is okay.

Metagross @ Leftovers / Choice Band
    Trait: Clear Body
    Nature: Adamant
    Evs: 252 Attack / 172 HP / 84 Defense
    - Meteor Mash
    - Thunderpunch
    - Earthquake
    - Explosion / Agility

Yeah, only use Agility if you chose Leftovers, but Leftovers works with Explosion too. This set gains coverage, along with a powerful STAB move. Thats about it. :x

    Gyarados @ Life Orb
    Dragon Dance
    Aqua Tail
    Hydro Pump
    Avalanche
Eh, Waterfall over Aqua Tail for Accuracy reasons. Two water moves is a huge no. Hydropump needs to go. Life Orb isn't the best item since Gyarados can be a defensive Pokemon too, and Life Orb ruins its ability to defend. Avalanche can be replaced for a better move like Earthquake. I'd suggest Taunt to ruin some walls over.

    Gyarados @ Leftovers
    Trait: Intimidate
    Nature: Adamant
    Evs: 252 Attack / 172 HP / 84 Speed
    - Dragon Dance
    - Waterfall
    - Earthquake
    - Taunt

Taunt really screws Blissey, Skarmory, and other Pokemon over. That way its really useful to take care of some walls and trap them into offense, disabling their recovery moves.

    SWAMPERT @ ???
    Earthquake
    Surf
    Ice Beam
    Facade
Leftovers for Swampert, always. It needs the HP recovery for some decent walling. Hydropump over Surf, it can 2HKO some threats that Surf can't. Facade is bleh, I'd scrap it for Curse. Curse really helps a Pokemon for walling and dealing good damage to the opponent.

    Swampert @ Leftovers
    Trait: Torrent
    Nature: Relaxed
    EVs: 200 Sp.Atk / 56 Attack / 252 HP
    - Earthquake
    - Hydropump
    - Icebeam
    - Curse / Stealth Rock / Roar

Stealth Rock is nice for team, since it lacks a Spiker and a Stealth Rocker. Roar is for some shuffling. :x

Garchomp @ ???(Aint need no items! Just suggest one)
    Sword Dance
    Crunch
    Earthquake
    Dragon Rush
Yeah, you kind of do need items. o3o Life Orb is a common choice for Garchomp, its Attack stat soars while holding it. Swords Dange and Earthquake are okay. Crunch is outclassed by Fire Fang on Garchomp because it wards off some Steel walls that might wall its physical capabilities. Dragon Rush is terrible, it's accuracy is way too low for average power. Dragon Claw is a much stabler choice.

    Garchomp @ Life Orb
    Trait: Sand Veil
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 252 Attack / 252 Speed / 4 HP
    - Fire Blast / Fire Fang
    - Dragon Claw / Outrage
    - Swords dance
    - Earthquake

    Blastoise @ ???
    Ice Beam
    Skull Bash
    Hydro Cannon
    Rain Dance
O_O; Hydrocannon and all other hyperbeam variants are a strict no. It completely traps and wastes a turn, since the attack is actually only 75 Power per turn after the calculations. Not to mention the trapping the next turn leaves you pretty vulnerable, and it also lets sweepers set up. Skull Bash is just like Hydrocannon, it takes two turns, but it provides even a lower power. Setting up Rain Dance just to boost one move is pretty stupid, there are much better moves you can replace Rain Dance with.

    Blastoise @ Leftovers
    Trait: Torrent
    Nature: Relaxed
    Evs: 252 HP / 172 Defense / 84 Sp.Atk
    - Toxic
    - Protect
    - Icebeam
    - Surf / Waterfall

Protect is like a move that lets you forsee what moves the opponent has in store for you, and you'd be able to block it. This moveset is also the ToxiStaller one. Protect lets you stall for half of the turns, while Toxic whittles down your enemy. The others are for straightforward attacking.

    What are EVs?

"EV" stands for Effort Values. EV Training is a special type of training that can increase your Pokémon's strength by far! An EV trained pokémon is sure to be stronger than a non-EVed Pokémon. A Pokémon can gain the maximum of 510 EV points to split between the stats of HP, Speed, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense. Each individual stat can have the maximum capacity of 255 EV Points.

How do I get EV Points?

When you are in In-Game, battling specific Pokémon will give you some EVs in a certain stat. A Pokémon only gains EVs if it can gain Experience Points. Whenever it gains Experience Points, the user gets EV Points. That means that if you run away, faint, or catch the opponent - you WILL NOT get EVs.

Each Pokémon provides different EV Points when they're defeated. They give a different number of EV Points as well as EVs in different stats.

How exactly does EV training help?

Like I said before, EV training can boost your Pokémon's strength significantly! So how does it boost your strength? Well, for each 4 Points you get while EV training, you get 1 extra Point in your stats. For instance: Starly provides 1 EV Point in Speed, so if you battle 4 Starlys, then your Speed stat will get one extra point. So that means if you max out your Speed EVs, then you will gain 63 extra Speed points. That means that a maxed EVed Speed stat will have 63 more points than the non-EVed pokémon!!!

I'm EV training, but my stats don't seem to change! What am I doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong. The results of EV training usually don't show up until your pokémon are at a later level. But not to worry, your EV work will be 100% shown.

    Tips for EV Training ...

Well, there are some guidelines you should follow. Remember how you need 4 EVs to raise a stat? Well, 255 is not divisible by 4. So that means some of the EVs have no use! That's correct. You should only get the maximum of 252 EVs in a stat. Be sure that the number of EV points you give to a stat is ALWAYS divisible by 4.

As you probably have noticed, EV training does take a long time. It requires patience and dedication in making a strong pokémon. So here's a tip: write your EV points down! Keep track of the EV points you've gained on a piece of paper - as I doubt you will be able to keep track of 252 EV Points all in your head!

Is there any way to speed up EV Training?

You're in luck: there is! Hold items can boost the amount of EVs a pokémon gains. Here are a list of items that increase EVs.

Stat Boosters - If you feed a Pokémon an item like Protein or Calcium gives you 10 EV points in the stat it raises.

    HP Up --- Hit Points
    Protein --- Attack
    Iron --- Defense
    Carbos --- Speed
    Calcium --- Sp. Attack
    Zinc --- Sp. Defense

Macho Brace - Macho Brace will half your speed when it is held, but whenever you EV train, it doubles your EVs gained. For instance, Starly gives 1 Speed EV Point when it is defeated. So when a pokémon holding a Macho Brace defeats a Starly, it gains not one - but 2 EV points in their stat!

Power Items - Items like Power Anklet and Power Bracer will increase the EVs Gained by +4 EVs Points. So that means if a Pokémon holding a Power Anklet (Speed) defeats a Starly(1 Speed EV), it actually gets 5 EV Points in Speed instead of 1.

-Power Anklet --- boosts Speed EV training. When defeating Pokémon who give speed EVs, the Power Anklet gives +4 in speed. For example, if you defeat a Starly you'll get 5 EVs in speed, one for initially defeating the Starly and four because your Pokémon is holding the Power Anklet

-Power Bracer --- boosts Attack EV training. When defeating Pokémon who give attack EVs the Power Bracer gives +4 in attack. For example, if you defeat a Machop you'll get 5 EVs in attack, one for initially defeating the Machop and four because your Pokémon is holding the Power Bracer

-Power Weight --- boosts HP EV training. When defeating Pokémon who give HP EVs, the Power Weight gives +4 in HP. For example, if you defeat a Bidoof you'll get 5 EVs in HP, one for initially defeating the Bidoof and four because your Pokémon is holding the Power Weight.

-Power Belt --- boosts Defense EV training. When defeating Pokémon who give Defense EVs, the Power Belt gives +4 in Defense. For example, if you defeat a Geodude you'll get 5 EVs in Defense, one for initially defeating the Geodude and four because your Pokémon is holding the Power Belt.

-Power Lens --- boosts Sp. Attack EV training. When defeating Pokémon who give Sp. Attack EVs, the Power Lens gives +4 in Sp. Attack. For example, if you defeat a Ghastly you'll get 5 EVs in Sp. Attack, one for initially defeating the Ghastly and four because your Pokémon is holding the Power Lens.

-Power Band --- boosts Sp. Defense EV training. When defeating Pokémon who give Sp. Defense EVs, the Power Band gives +4 in Sp. Defense. For example, if you defeat a Tentacool you'll get 5 EVs in Sp. Defense, one for initially defeating the Tentacool and four because your Pokémon is holding the Power Band.

Pokérus(PKRS) - Pokérus is NOT an item. It is a very rare disease obtained by battling a pokémon. The disease is even harder to obtain than a shiny pokémon! So if you get it, YOU ARE VERY LUCKY. This disease acts like the Macho Brace without the Speed halving. It doubles the EVs gained but the pokémon can still hold an item.

    EV DISTRIBUTION …

You are able to choose the EVs you give a Pokémon. So I should I distribute them properly? Well, first you determine what the role of a Pokémon is. Then you are able to determine the EV Distribution. Here are some guidelines :

    - A Sweeper Pokémon will have usually 252 EVs in the Speed. There are some exceptions, such as if a Pokémon holds the Choice Scarf item. (e.g. Weavile has 252 EVs in Speed.)

    - A Sweeper Pokémon will have a maxed out stat in Attack OR Special Attack 70% of the time. Ignore this rule if the pokémon you are using is able to defend or is a mixed sweeper (a sweeper with both physical and special moves). (e.g. Rampardos has 252 EVs in Attack)

    - A walling pokémon will usually carry a maxed out HP stat. (e.g. Milotic carries 252 HP EVs.)

    - A walling pokémon usually carries 252 EVs in their Defense or Special Defense stat. (e.g. Blissey runs 252 Defense EVs)

Good Pokemon to EV Train with :

    HP - | Bidoof 1 Pt | Gastrodon 2 Pts
    Attack - | Machop 1 Pt | Bibarel 2 Pts | Kricketune 2 Pts
    Defense - | Geodude 1 Pt | Graveler 2 Pts |
    Special Attack - | Gastly 1 Pt |
    Special Defense - | Tentacool 1 Pt |
    Speed - | Magikarp 1 Pt | Starly 1 Pt | Zubat 1 Pt | Staravia 2 Pts |

Electric moves rampage through half of your team, now combine it with other common moves. o3o Hi Electivire.

Okay, before some one comments about how much wailord sucks ill change it, thought of a variant though, this guy straight fromt he reserves section:

    Snorlax @ Leftovers
    Earthquake
    Rockslide
    Rest / Curse
    Toxic

On my standard, bad tanker and not very good Sweeper. Hehehe...(I didn't teach him those moves!!!!! All I did was catch him...)

Or if you hate my snorlax that much I got another tanker:

Agron @ Life Orb (GO AGRON!!!! U DA MAN~~~!)
    Earthquake
    Thunderpunch
Double Edge (without recoil so that's where life orb comes in)
    Curse

I didn't want ot add agron cuz thiis was meant to be a water and dragon team but hey, let's break the mold shall we?

I would not put Toxic on this. Why no Return?Return is it's best STAB move and required on any set.Toxic is useless so out of the moveset it goes.Choose your choice.Ghost and Psychic types get murdered by Crunch while Earthquake will strike Rock,Fire and Steel types.Either way, those moves kill things that would wall this set.

How do you expect to even start hurting things?Heracross could slap this thing in the face and KO it.It's at most, meant to wall while sweepin fails horribly because of it's speed. This is not a tanker.Sorry, but you mixed up a sweeper and a tank.Take the tank set, please. It's hopeless at battling no matter what you say.

No,do not break the mold. That means 2 4x weaknesses are added to the old weaknesses.Snorlax could be used.

Not Much To Say. Give Him A Few Accuracy Boosts In Battle And Use Hammer Arm Like Crazy. The Black Belt Will Help Too By Raising It's Power.

    Garchomp @ Razor Fang
    Sword Dance
    Crunch
    Earthquake
    Dragon Rush
    Nothing To Say.

    Blastoise @ NeverMeltIce
    Ice Beam
    Skull Bash
    Hydro Cannon
    EarthQuake/Gyro Ball
The Rain Dance Was Just A Hydro Pump Waiting To Attack Your Metagross. Wrap It Up With Something Like EarthQuake Or Gyro Ball To Suprise Your Opponent.

I Put Everything I Did In Bold. :P

    Wailord @ Leftovers
    Water Spout
    Giga Impact
    Sleep Talk
    Rest
Problem Number 1: Water Spout Does Damage,Water Sport Doesn't.
That WAS Your Problem With This Guy.

Giga Impact fails, and Hyper Beam moves should never be used on anything apart from porygon-z for the ohko on bliss, even then it sucks . The recharge is just a revenge kill waiting to happen.

    Metagross @ Focus Band
    Meteor Mash
    Physic
    Sludge Bomb
    Explosion
With The Focus Band,You Can Use Explosion,Get Rid Of The Opponent And Then Use A Max Potion Without Getting Rid Of Metagross.

    1. You cant use bag items in battles.
    2. Focus Band is frowned upon, and is a Hax item.

    Gyarados @ Charcoal
    Dragon Dance
    Fire Blast
    Hydro Pump
    Avalanche
After You Send Out Gyrados,Your Opponent Is Sure To Send Out A Grass Type Pokemon If They Have One,You Can Defend Yourself If You Teach Gyrados Fire Blast,But Never Have Two Attacks Of The Same Type.

Wait, what the hell, why would Fire blast coming off Gyrados's pathetic special attack stat do more to Grass Types rather than avalanche coming of its huge attack stat anyways ?
What Grass type can actually beat Gyrados apart from a select few like Ceelbi/Tangrowth ?. Please look at pokemons base stats before suggesting moves.

Charcoal sucks and doesnt benefit this in any way, just for one move ? a 20% boost does not help (Unless its for beating something specific, e.g : T-Tar 2hkoing swampert with a DD blackglasses Crunch), Leftovers, Life Orb Choice band, heck anything except that.

    SWAMPERT @ Black Belt
    Earthquake
    Muddy Water
    Ice Beam
    Hammer Arm
Not Much To Say. Give Him A Few Accuracy Boosts In Battle And Use Hammer Arm Like Crazy. The Black Belt Will Help Too By Raising It's Power.

Hammer Arm is not of any benefit to Swampert, and neither is black belt, unless you run a CB Swampert and its for the ohko on Bliss or to beat weavile, which this team dies not need due to metagross.

Also what benefit does Muddy Water have >> Surf ?

Again Black Belt for one move is stupid.

    Garchomp @ Razor Fang
    Sword Dance
    Crunch
    Earthquake
    Dragon Rush
    Nothing To Say.

Razor Fang is a Hax item, so is frowned upon.

    Blastoise @ NeverMeltIce
    Ice Beam
    Skull Bash
    Hydro Cannon
    EarthQuake/Gyro Ball
The Rain Dance Was Just A Hydro Pump Waiting To Attack Your Metagross. Wrap It Up With Something Like EarthQuake Or Gyro Ball To Suprise Your Opponent.

Gyro Ball will surprise your opponents, but you will have to rely on time out to beat them, as they will be laughing too hard to move. Its way TOO fast to use it effectively, and should only be used on slow stuff, e.g Bronzong, Forretress etc.

    Again stupid item is stupid.

    1) DON'T RATE WITHOUT PROPER KNOWLEDGE.

This bugs me the most & I put it up first. I am sick of seeing people give horrid advice that defies common sense, just so they can admit "I'm not that good at teams." If you're not good, why did you speak? "I was just trying to help." Trust me, when you give bad advice, you aren't helping anyone. In fact, you are only hurting the one you are trying to help. Like giving directions. If you don't know the way, don't give them directions that would get them lost.

    yeah,^^

    Comments in red.

This team still NEEDS evs, natures before i/we can do anything.

Thanks guys, I feel like a new person, I think I'll revise the entire team just give me like.... a day or so...

What else to you want me to do?
Start pulling all my pokemon from Emerald and my other repotoires?????

Maybe- but you should think outside of that. Think of Pokemon that you don't have, or Pokemon that you're unfamiliar with, and consider them for your team.

Of course, it's probably best to learn about EVs, natures, IVs, and all that junk before you really think about your team.
