Do you watch any Japanese TV/films that aren't anime? If no: why not? If yes: what are some of your favourites and why?

I liked ju-on, I watch a lot of old Kung fu movies, like Jackie chan's older films, Alot of Donnie yen movies and the ong bak series.

I'm pretty big on Tokusatsu (Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, etc.) series. I also like watching what Gaki no Tsukai I find. Occasionally I watch J-dramas, but that's not often.

I'm also a fan of tokusatsu, though I don't often stray outside of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. I'm currently watching the three shows airing now, being Fourze, Go-Busters and Akibaranger.

I've also been watching some Gamecenter CX on the side. I love watching other people play games, but I get burned out by Let's Plays a lot of the time, so this makes for a good alternative. Also, Arino is hilarious.

When I lived in Japan I watched a lot of one variety show called Quiz! Hexagon II (and really any silly looking game shows I could find) and any music shows I came across like Music Station so I could find out what was new, but I don't really watch them now owing to the pain it would be to get the episodes.

Films more than anything I guess. Audition, Battle Royale, Tokyo Story, The Ring, Lady Snowblood. Seen a lot of their funny B movie type horror, so stupid but amusing all the same.

My favourite movie series ever made had an anime based off of it, but it itself is live action. It's called Zeiram. I also watch a ton of J-horror flicks like Siren, Uzumaki, etc.

I used to watch some JE dramas such as Gokusen, Yuukan club, etc., as well as music shows like Music Japan, Music Station, J-MELO. I would sometimes catch travel (in Japan) shows airing in NHK World, which fascinate me.

As for movies, my favorites are moonchild, Battle Royale, Kokuhaku, and the like. I've always wanted to watch more horror films but never gotten around to, though.

I watch tokusatsu more than I do anime, so there's that. It's not often that I watch one these days, but I do enjoy J-Dramas quite a lot. I make it a habit to watch whatever the yearly Taiga Drama is since I do love history and those shows have some incredible sets and design work going on. And they're just damn interesting.

I used to do this a lot more often, but every now and then I'll watch Music Station or a variety show or two. Was always a fan of Mago no Arashi when it aired way back in the day.

I watch Gamecenter CX sometimes. Arino, livin' the dream: always.

I personally love the 1954 Godzilla. That was a great classic, it was. o3o
Too bad it got about a ka-jillion sequels that were nowhere as good, though. Well, some of them were good. Then again, I haven't seen many, so what do I know? xD;

Yes, i do watch some of them like Blood the last vampire, azumi, and now im waiting for the rorouni kenshins live action movie..

Hey, I forgot to answer my own topic!

And the answer is yes! Although it tends to be only films and not live-action TV, which I've found really hard to appreciate when exposed to them. I'm not a Kurosawa diehard (don't kill me, but I don't actually like Seven Samurai all that much), but the ones I do like - Throne of Blood - do have their moments. More recent Japanese filmmakers like Hirokazu Kore-eda (Still Walking) and Takahashi Miike (Audition) are more up my street, even though Miike is insane in his own way. As well as those, Tokyo Story by Yasujiro Ozu and The Battle of Narayama by Shoei Imamura are two more of my favourite films and are verrrrrrry Japanese in their familial politics and use of folklore, respectively.

Yes I do i'm a huge fan of japanese dramas and Asadoras :D
My favorite one is Scandal it kinda reminds me of a japanese sex and the city

I only seen Ju-On and Ringu.... I would love to say Yes, but I can't find any other films in Japanese.

I don't ever watch movies, but when I do they better be worth my time.

So that being said, I have watched one Japanese movie (though not completely) called Sweet Home. I only watched the beginning 10 minutes, a couple minutes in the middle, and the last 20 minutes or so. But from what I could tell, it's a great movie and I love the plot :) I can't stand being scared by horror movies though so that's why I didn't watch allllllllllllllllll of it.

That's a lot better than the other movies, American or non-American. I hate movies because I don't like to sit, so Anime is the way to go because it actually inspires me just a bit. And even then it's only an occasional marathon before I get tired of it (for example I just had a Haruhi and Hikaru no Go watching spree a couple months ago).

Oh and by the way Sweet Home is a game advertisement if you're wondering. But it's a good movie nonetheless.

The only Japanese films I've seen are Ju-On, Ju-On 2 and Pulse(Or Kairo if you want to accurate)
If I remember right I saw Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth from 1992 one day on TV with my family, but it was only bits and pieces.

My favorites out of the ones, is probably Ju-On and Ju-On2. I remember the first time watching the American remake of The Grudge . I hardly watch horror movies and I was pretty scared, but it was really good! I wanted to find the original Japanese versions and they just happened to be playing on HBO one day so I recorded them.

I love me some Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Ultraman, and Godzilla.

I've been watching Kamen Rider and Super Sentai since... 2007 and I enjoy it pretty well. I've not watched as much as a lot of people, but I do enjoy it quite a bit.

More recently I've been watching Yuusha Yoshihiko to Maou no Shiro... which is basically Dragon Quest: The Series. It's hilarious and has a lot of people who are fans of old school jrpgs... or just low budget special effects!
