4th Gen HG/SS - Increased use of Stylus

I have been used to the touch screen ever since I made poffins in Pokemon Pearl.

If they add a lot of touch screen features I wouldn't mind, but just not a whole bunch.

It already looks like they're using the touchscreen for many things, even the menu bar alogn with many other features.

Might as well, if you play it on a console that has a touch screen, use it.

No if they put the menu on the bottom screen that would make no sense, as that screen is for your Pokegear. You wouldn't have a bag app on your pokegear now would you? ^^

If it pops on the top screen, then its interesting but also pointless. Its just as easy to tap X, no? Same finger distance.

It's not a bad idea as it takes use of more things, makes handling everything in the game easier and more organized. Also, it is possible that they can allow you to transition from the PokeGear to the start menu.

I didn't like how they put the start menu at the touch screen. They should've simply kept it at the top and just press x when you want it to pop up.

I think maybe they should slow down on using the touch screen though.

I enjoyd having everything packed into the top screen ;; Makes it easier to play when using the buttons. I hated all these new features with the touch screen. Either they have the entire game inported into the touch screen or have it in the top screen. Not both, please.

I saw a good scan of the touch screen and noticed that up above of the box with all the menu buttons there was a "X" and something written and lower in the right corner it seems like there's a box with a "A" and some thing written.
My guess would be, that if you push X the Menu shows up down there and if you push "A" the PokeGear appears. I got this idea because of the lack of PokeGear Symbol.
I saw this scan on bulbanews, would've post a link to it but, I think I'd need 15 post to do that.

A is for examining something and x is menu. Hmm how they will play this out is very mysterious.

Yeah, like i said, "A" is most likely the PokeGear, because if you look at the touch screen you see buttons for Pokemon Team(pokeball), Bag, Trainer Card(card), Save(notepad) and Options(wrench) there's a empty space above the Pokeball but that's most likely for the PokeDex so the only place the PokeGear could be is Box "A"

Edit: now that i have 15 posts, this is the site: https://archives.bulbagarden.net/w/upload/2/24/Famitsu_HGSS.jpg

In Pearl, I really didn't like using the stylus, which is why I'm glad that there was the option to not use the stylus and only use the buttons. (With the exception of the Poketech, but I didn't switch the app on that much.)

If the use of the touch screen increases in HG/SS, then I'm not going to have a major problem with it. It's just going to be something I'll get used to in order to play the game. It's just the game making use of the main feature of the console it's on.

I just hope it's segued easier into the game. It was awkward when I used the stylus in Pearl.

I don't mind the menu being on the touch screen. (I'm kinda glad I don't have to press the up and down arrows anymore for it. That was getting annoying.) Maybe the X button will still open and close it. Besides, with the battles in DP, you didn't have to use the stylus for the battles at all. It allowed you to use the control buttons w/ out even pressing the touch screen if you haven't already figured that out. I still don't use the touch screen for battles. Try it out. The only thing the controls didn't let you operate was the Poketch, underground digging, and the mini games. You don't even need to use the stylus for the battles. Maybe the menu will be the same way even though it's on the touch screen. You can either use your stylus or the control buttons.

I don't mind it either. I do wonder if they will keep that little glow when you touch the screen, like the had on the Poké'tch. It didn't do much, but still it was nice to play around with when a little bored at the moment.

They probably will bring back the glow and if they do I wouldn't mind. After all, it is just a glow. xD When your bored, I guess it is something that will keep someone busy.

Too dependable on the touch screen? No. That's what it's there for

You know, a majority of titles that take advantage of the new Wii/DS features turn out to be less than steller titles, because they use those features poorly. Granted pokemon didn't become worse via touch features, saying something should depend on a feature just because it's there if faulty logic. You use what you can to make a game GOOD. And Phantom Hourglass was a pain.

So true. (I have that game, and already I stopped playing it.)

I don't think they'll do too much with the touch screen. I'm just glad I'm not moving my character by the touch screen.

That is one thing I hope they do not do as yet, having to move your character with the touchscreen at times, it gets really annoying. I'm good with the functions they've done so far that I can see.

The idea of finally having the menu on the touchscreen, for quick access to the save button and pokemon party, and hopefully the possibility of organising pokemon boxes via touch screen, etc, seems very welcome, shame it took them so long to get there.

On a side note i find it quite easy using the touch screen, my thumbs can easily move across to operate it and it is quite efficient.

I have actually been wondering for a while why there was never a Poketch application for accessing the menu, so finding that HeartGold and SoulSilver will allow touch-screen access to it is quite a relief. As for those other selections, it will probably play out as a similar method to how battles work: the bottom menu will be accessible through either touch or the X button, and once the cursor is there, pressing A or touching the button will switch to the Poke Gear. Item selection on the menu will switch from A to X to match this, while exiting the menu will still be done with the B button and the A button will still be used to examine objects on the overworld.

(But what about the B button - running?)

Perhaps Gamefreak will add in an auto-run feature?

Probably giving the game an excuse to use a bottom screen beyond minigames and battles

Dont make me drool. B button running has been a nintendo trademark :P
