Hey, i was wondering what your thoughts on heart gold and soul silver was and if it was worth a go?

You see, i stopped playing pokemon after playing through the original gold version and looking at all the new pokemon and game's it looks like they are getting desperate to keep it popular. For me, they ruined pokemon after gold. All these new pokemon it got ridiculous. Gold, silver, crystal, blue, red and yellow were all good, and the only ones i actually played. Besides leaf green and fire red as it was a remake of my favorite pokemon games.

So my question is, is heart gold and soul silver worth it for an original pokemon fan?

Is your experience of the game boosted with the ds having wi-fi capabilities? (I don't own a ds, as i actually never had a reason to purchase one)
But looking at all the new features, ways to trade, battle and other attributes it could be worth buying a ds and heart gold..

I think it is worth it. It is basically the exact same game as Gold, but much better graphics and many more details thought out. And after that, you can trade over WiFi, battle over WiFi, and many other things that weren't possible back then.

Also, a very important note, as its' only really applied to this generation, so, 5 games:

You can actually complete the pokedex!

In Gens I,II,III it was almost impossible, due to events being the only way to get certain pokemon (and Celebi actually being Japan-exclusive until Gen III), whereas now, with cloning and wi-fi, even the rarest pokemon like Celebi and Mew are available!

p.s. you can get Marill in its' home region, and Marill is awesome, obvs xD

Really! My only rare pokemon is a Jirachi.. For some reason, every couple of years i get the hankering to pull out the fire-red or gold whatever floats my boat. And either restart or just roam around. But i never knew about 'EV' training till looking on these forums.. And other such thing's.. Does that make my Fire-red level 100's useless as they aren't 'ev' trained or what not?

Not if you don't battle the serious battlers.

Lots of people don't bother about EV training. Lots do, but there's about a 50/50 split.

Anyways, you just about need to be lv.100 to defeat Red in Hg/Ss

Ah ok, thanks for the information!
I will most likely purchase a ds and heart gold in the coming weeks, maybe we can battle or trade, what not?

Also, is it possible to trade between fire-red?

The DS has a slot for GameBoy Advanced Games (well, DS Lite and DS) and once you reach a certain point in the game you will be able to use that feature to 'migrate' Pokmeon from the GBA Game to the DS Game (but not the other way around). Also, your Pokemon don't have to be level 100; anyone can easily defeat Red with level 75ish Pokemon.

Ah ok, thanks for the input everyone!

I feel odd for not having a Marill in my signature, but nonetheless...
I wholeheartedly recommend getting a DS and Heart Gold or Soul Silver. Not only are theynostalgic remakes of the best Pokemon games ever, the new features introduced are really great, too.
It seems GameFreak learned from the mistakes they made with FR/LG, and now even after defeating Red there is plenty of things to unlock/do. Once you've got all 16 badges and beaten Red, there's even the Battle Frontier to play through. It's almost as if DPPt are just a waste of time to get now, since HG/SS have most of the things DPPt have, and more.
Be sure to not get a DSi though, if you're looking to transfer Pokemon from FireRed. It doesn't have the GBA slot needed. Although if you've got Wifi, you can always trade for the Pokemon you would get from FR.

    TL;DR, get a DS, and HG/SS :)

    Thanks gira!
Someone just said to me that HG + SS don't have the function of transferring between game boy advance games and ds games isn't available is this true?

The reason being i have pokemon that i've trained to level 100 before i quit and i would like them transferred..

Like Deku said you can migrate Pokemon using Pal Park. You can use this once you get the National Pokedex, and then you go to Fuschia Town where the Safari Zone used to be, and you can get Pokemon from your GBA games, with a catching game. However once you migrate them you can't send them back. Plus you can't send Pokemon from HG/SS to your GBA games.

I would definitely get HG/SS because they're the best Pokemon games up to now in my opinion.

    deku and Amore, you guys confuse with your Marill themes. XD;

Having the question answered - with a handful of reasonable responses might I add, please use the HG/SS Help Thread for further questions about the GSC remakes.
