HG team help please

I am going to buy heart gold but I can't decide what my team should be

Option A:
Typlosion
Lapras
Eggecutor
Pidgeot
Rhyperior
Alakazam

OR

Option B:
Feraligator
Aracanine
Eggecutor
Pidgeot
Rhyperior
Alakazam

For an in-game team, any combination of Pokes can essentially rock the house.

If you're looking for a true competitive team, you're gonna have post movesets, EV distribution, natures, etc.

Not much difference except the fire and water Pokemon. Personally, I think you should wait til after you've bought the game and actually have move sets. There's not much to work with here since there's only a two Pokemon difference. From the looks of it, you're basing it off your starter. It's really just a personal preference for a starter. I'd personally go with Typhlosion, just because it's a favorite and Lapras is a nice tank to have.

I just did some research of my own, and you were right. Feraligator is terrible.

Oh, Feraligatr's not terrible. :< But okay then. It's your team. XD Glad I could persuade you onto the Typhlosion side. >:) When you get move sets, or have potential move sets, just edit your first post and I'll be glad to help, and I'm sure other members would too. :)

I just did some research of my own, and you were right. Feraligator is terrible.

Whoah! I gotta step in here and stick up for Feraligatr. By no means is it terrible, Feraligatr gets some great moves, and has fairly good stats! However I did start with Cyndaquil (Although I ended up ditching him for Arcanine) I choose Cyndaquil, because I was going to use a Gyarados instead of a Feraligatr (They're both good water types, and they're fairly similar) Although Lapras isn't a bad water type, may I suggest a third option? How about doing what I did and using an Arcanine and a Gyarados, or Arcanine and Lapras? Honestly it shouldn't matter too much what your team is if you're just using them for in-game purposes...
