I just realised this last night, some pokemon names have hidden names inside their name

ARTICUNO - ARTIC, UNO, Uno means ONE in Spanish
ZAPDOS - ZAP, DOS - Dos means TWO In Spanish
MOLTRES - MOL, TRES - Tres means THREE In Spanish

    Any More Like This?

...Only just noticed? Wow, a little slow aren't you?

Hmm. I know more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

    True

I never noticed that. I can't think of any right now but I will have a look for some later :knockedou

Seaking;, sea because its a fish and king because its a king?

    Lol xD

I'm pretty sure all of the names were derived used some clever wordplay

    Pikachu

Pika means "flash of light" in japanese and "chu" is the sound a mouse makes.

I always thought Pikachu was named after the Pika Mouse. I guess you learn something everyday.

Regi - latin word for king

    Regice-Ice King
    Registeel-Steel King
    Regirock-Rock King
    Regigigas-Regi + gigas(giant) = King of the Giants

    Nido is NOT Dino backwards.

Nido Is Odin Backwards, As In Odin The Greek God

Actually, Odin was the king of the Norse gods. Zeus is the Greek king of the gods.

    Lessie here...

Well, the English names are derived from wordplays, so of course there are going to be hidden words and such. For example, Rapidash is "Rapid"+"dash", eluding to the awesome speeds this Pokemon can obtain at a full gallop.

And then there's Gastly, which is a play on "Ghastly" and the fact that it is made up of poisonous gasses (in fact, I've seen instances were people spell out the name as Ghastly...)

And THEN there's Geodude, which is in real life a specific kind of rock formation and happens to be round, like the Pokemon...

Anyway, we could do this stuff forever, pointing out the hidden play on words...

torterra- "tor" as in tortose and "terra" meaning "land" in latin I think

Hey well better late than never as they say! :D

Murkrow - Murk as in darkness and krow as in the bird, crow.
Combee - Comb as in the combs of honey that Combee is made out of. Bee because it's based off of a bee.

    UNOS!DOS!TRES!CATORCE!!!(opening lines to U2's song,Vertigo)

Do you know what happens when you have them 3 plus a (hopefully soon coming) pokemon with Catorce in it's name in your party?Vertigo starts playing!!

    Lol, i wish.

That would be the most amazing thing in the universe...

Anyway, here are some more so I'll be on topic:

Kingdra-- King, being the most powerful (behind an emperor) ruler, part dragon type, and being the last of the Horesea evolution line (and thus, most powerful).

Haunter-- HAUNT(er), dur hur, it's a ghost that haunts things. TADA.

... I've always wondered about Sableye, however-- are the gems in its eyes MADE of sable, and hence the name...? And about about Absol? What's up with that name? Hidden words+play on words, I don't see 'em here.
