hey guys, have a question, i just noticed that Tyrogues and Hitmonchans abilities are both different, so here is my question:

when Tyrogue evolves into hitmonchan, does tyrogues ability have any effect on what hitmonchans ability is? for example, if tyrogue has the ability Guts, does that mean Hitmonchan is guaranteed to get the ability keen eye? or is it completely random?

btw, this is my first post here, im 16 and have been playing since the first days of red and blue.

thank you for the welcome, i may have to just test it myself, ill transfer over 6 tyrogues with attack less then defense and evolve them all, then i can make a statement.

No, I doubt it is random. Take Porygon2 evolving into Porygon-Z for example: if the former has Trace, the latter with have Adaptability. Likewise, all Teddiursa with Pickup will evolve into Ursaring with Guts.

So with Tyrogue, I am quite sure that this is also the case. If you go with the order the abilities are listed in Serebii's Pokedex, Tyrogue with Guts should become Hitmonchan with Keen Eye, and Tyrogue with Technician should become Hitmonchan with Iron Fist. But to make sure, I suggest soft-saving and using some Rare Candies.

sorry, but what is soft saving?

im going to find out for sure anyway, as no one really seems to have tested it, ill post results for reference here.

EDIT: actually, i dont want to waste my time if it doesnt work, so i will go with the fact that it matters what the previous ability was, im just having a heck of a time finding a Tyrogue

Soft-saving refers to turning the game off without saving in order to restore certain items or Pokemon. For example, you'd save the game and then give Tyrogue enough Rare Candies for him to evolve. You then check the ability, and turn the game off. You then have your answer without training the Tyrogue, and without wasting those Rare Candies.
