    You'd have an incredibly hard time restricting who can and can't join unless you intended to have a permanently active admin adding every supporter to a white list as they join.
     
    mode +k, requires pass before you can chat, we could post it here or something
     
    ...and passwords are very easily spread when given to a large number of people.

    There aren't even that many people who go to the regular PC IRC, and quite a number of them are supporters. I'd rather encourage people to go to the official one that already exists.
     
    hehe, I mean just to replace daily chitchat or something, anyways there can be mode +k, requires password /+r, only registered users can join and for non-supporters who somehow get in +b, you know what that does
     
    I know what all the modes do. I'm saying I don't agree with the sentiment at all. There's no need for a supporter-only IRC chat when we already have a hardly-populated official IRC chatroom.
     
    I don't see the point of this, lol. The only place that would be more dead than this forum would be a Supporter-only IRC.
     
    It's a good idea, but one that wouldn't work for PC ):

    Like everyone else said, not even a lot of people come into the normal IRC. If someone wanted to create a channel for it, then that would be cool, but I think it would be pretty much dead.
     
    Ok, but lol we could make it if we had more members. But yah, the trade corner sometimes overpopulates PC's IRC

    Well, maybe we could try to get people to use IRC and then migrate them. It works sometimes. We've had smaller channels that have been a lot more active than #thepokecommunity, but let's try to get #tpc to be more active first. Maybe like a supporter invasion or something :/
     
    I don't think the problem is one with having the wrong people join - it's not like it's a tragedy if a non-supporter gets leaked the password (not that this should ever happen anyway) and joins with it since they can just get kicked out again, no harm done other than by whoever leaked the password to them.

    However I'd much prefer that we start first with what BlooMilk C. said and try to drive supporter activity to the main IRC. In the end I guess I feel like since this whole place is PokéCommunity, it's probably not a great idea to remove a chunk of #thepokecommunity's activity by attempting to transfer supporters into the supporter-only IRC. If it even worked, you'd just end up with a chatroom separation between members and supporters and I don't really think that's fair given that some very good members just can't afford to support or whatever. So yeah while it's a nice idea I'd prefer supporters just move more to #tpc than to #PCSupporter.

    Not that I really use IRC channels anyway, haha. Just my two cents and all.

    edit: woah old thread ok then lol, didn't realise that. This still stands though - did the IRC ever even take off?

    Yeah, this is an old thread. But as there's new questions about it now I'll leave this open... and thread revival is allowed here to boot so all's good!
     
    I don't see the point in a supporter irc. We have this VIP forum that's rarely used, the regular PC irc isn't heavily populated, and almost every section here has an irc which is even more specific. But that specific is a good specific. All the traders can congregate in #tradecorner for RNG and trade help, challenge regulars can go to #swablunest to talk about what challenges they're doing and get help with them, etc. What about supporters makes them stand out enough to warrant an irc? That you donated? Are you gonna talk about that? Obviously that's not to say TC and Challenge ircs aren't always about the respective topic, but most of the time it is.

    So basically, just seems pointless. ;(
     
    It's completely pointless IMO. (almost?) All PC boards have their IRC channels so it's better to stick to those because you can talk about interests you share. So what would be the main unifying thing of the VIP channel? How did you get your supportership? Nah, thanks. This subforum is pretty dead so I guess the channel would be dead as well.
     
    I'm not even a fan of most of the section specific IRC channels tbh. Supporter IRC also wouldn't work out because if you look at VIP forum... the activity isn't even enough to need an IRC. idk also on the side of it being pointless :( Then again it'd also seem kinda mean to the members who can only use #tpc that apparently everyone hates.

    Everyone go to #tpc instead. Actually, the VIP forum could have a use here in terms of discussing #tpc. Brb idea!
