how can i maintain a civilized forum? Also I need Mods a link to my forum is in my sig.

Well you need reliable staff , good mods & well on my forum *Points to sig* i have set Swearing dubbing so if someone swears the word comes up as something non-rude or in my case a rather silly sentance*Sweatdrops* If you don't want people swearing badly then you should have a rule like if they swear more then say 4 times they get banned. You obviously need mods but before you recruit someone i think you should make sure they're trustworthy because you want good & nice mods ^^ The mods on my forum are all friends/people i know & trust ^__^ . A good thing to have is a Mod/Admin area where mods & the Admin/admins can talk, like about if you have suspicions about someone or want to disscuss banning & lots of other important stuff. You can password protect it so that when you have mods you can tell them the password so they can get in but Non-Mod/Admin members can't.
Its good if you have friends on the web that are on the same pokemon forums as you & are happy to be a mod. I've been avertising my forum on my sig on all the pokemon forums i'm joined to which are only three ^^;; its helped abit. Its allways good to have a attractive forum , i have tried to make mine really personalised & welcoming. Like with good colours , a banner or a good pic & offcourse a nice admin ! ^^. I hope this helps ! :classic:

:) i'd say stop creating new ones cause this pt in life its kinda hard to get a lotta members cause most members are either here, at serebiiforums, or at pe2kforums. and try to unite into one forum so everyone can speak together~ *pts at PC*

and it gets kinda funky when most of ur members are mods...but i join a lotta forums, each one has cool stuff to talk about. =D passes a lotta time.

try not to make everyone a mod and worry about banning people when u have more members.

Nowadays, getting a forum/message board is a lot easier as it was a few years ago.

Because of this, I've seen many forums that look like they have a good start, but eventually get abandoned due to lack of members, dedication or the admin decided to do nothing on it. There isn't really any direct rules on how to maintain a civilised forum, but these guidelines may help:

    1) Disable Guests from Posting
Yes, I know it is a little harsh for the legitimite posters, but it's far too easy for people to SPAM your board if you allow Guests to post.

    2) Don't put a ridiculous amount of boards/forums
I have seen some forums that have like, 50-100 boards? They included a board to discuss every TV show, movie, and video game. So try not to go overboard when you create your boards/forums.

    3) Keep in Touch with your Members
Try to post as much as you can without spamming your own board, and help new members out. You may also want to get to know them a little better by chatting to them via IM (instant messaging) or the PM (private messaging) feature of your specified forum.

    4) Be sensible with the amount of staff for your forum/message board
The PokeCommunity has a good number of staff to keep every board of the forum moderated and under control. It really depends on how many boards and members your forum has.

    5) Create a set of rules for the forum/message board and get you and your staff to ENFORCE THEM
Without rules, immature members may just run amock, and chaos may occur on your forum/message board. So make you sure you create a set of rules.

    6) Personalise your Forum
Many forums look the same these days, so if you people to join your forum, yours will need to stick out from the crowd. Customise your colours! Create a logo for the forum! Add gradients to the title and category bars! Make your own buttons! You get the idea. ^_*

    This guide may be subject to being edited... ^_^;

In regard to Zapchu's first two sentences, you need a really good site to draw in people, otherwise forums are a waste.

As for most of the members being moderators. Been there, done that. Btw, don't let it happen. The forums will collapse. It will get to the point where you are making people staff just to get them to stay at the forums. You're better off being the only staff member for a while and make 51% of all of the posts on your forums. Meaning you reply to everything and start like half the topics on your forums. It is the only way you will catalyze a popular message board.

I see the ?too many forums and staff? thing all the time with these free boards. People seem to mod all their friends form other boards, and it just doesn?t work. Plus, I think really, four or five sections is fine to start with, with maybe two mods and you, the admin.

Kairi> you canclose this now i have enough info

Are you sure? I am sure a lot more people could lend their advice and experience to your situation, or at least have a discussion. If you?re sure though?

ok im not sure let more people offer me info

Is that your forum? Hmm, the colours could do with some changing. You should stick with a theme, like I've done with my forum: Whether it be light or dark colours, appearance matters the most on forums as they're already built, ready for use.
